You’ve had the 80s, the 90s, the 00s, and here are the 10s- yes the top 100 best selling female solo tracks of the decade including streams in the UK! The charts covered are 16/01/2010 to 02/01/2020 and contrary to my normal rundowns this list will only include tracks which are officially credited solely to a female soloist so collaborations which are credited as such will not appear here.

There are 13 acts with three or more tracks in the top 100 but as we are dealing with streams the list is not as reliable or as comprehensive as earlier lists so my guestimates could be further out than normal.

Credits go to the OCC, BPI, shireblogger, Liam K, Andy, buzzjack and Haven as sources.

As per usual the bigger sellers are all pretty well known but no spoilers please- let’s just enjoy the rundown!

28 Number ones, 57 top 10s and two tracks that missed the top 40 altogether in the decade, the tracks spent a total of over 3,800 weeks in the top 100 between them, and 8 that charted before this decade altogether!

Thought there might be a few songs I didn't know in the 80s list, but I wasn't expecting the first to be as high as #9. I've just looked it up and it had a very short chart run to sell that much! The next I'd never heard of is at #50. I know all of the 90s list though smile.gif

Dua Lipa’s first UK hit (though not her first release) sees Lipa reflect "I was in a relationship that really f***ed me over. In the song, I twisted it so that I was in the better position and I was the one going 'f*** you'. That really helped me get over it. It was very therapeutic for me. It was really bruising my ego, and making me feel like I wasn't worth it. I was heartbroken, but I started to write about that time and I felt I had a lot to say. I really just wanted to get up and say that I didn't really actually care about it. I wanted to make myself feel that I was good enough so it was an empowering song”.

She doesn’t care- just in case you wondered.

Her tendency to collaborate doubtless affects the number of entries on this rundown but this does make it, a song helped by her MTV performance during which she revealed she was pregnant! Inspiration wise she commented “"When I played Etta James [in the 2008 musical biopic, Cadillac Records] it was the most I'd learned about myself until the recording of this album. When I went into the studio I used the same passion, honesty, and approach with my vocals I channelled as Etta James. It does not sound like the vocals on my past albums. It's a lot rawer. It comes from a deep place”

wow that 3 quarters of a million units still isn't enough for top 100 this decade, says it all about how much streaming has inflated sales units.
Hotter Than Hell is a rather decent start, a good introduction to Dua Lipa although thankfully she had even better tracks to come.
Never was all that keen on Love On Top, a bit too "Beyonce" for my liking (those numerous key changes did not help either).
