Time for a new change at #1 the competition this week comes from One Direction 'Perfect' and KDA collaborating with Tinie Tempah & Katy B on 'Turn The Music Louder (Rumble)', if KDA reaches #1 it will mark Katy B's first #1 as a collaborating artist. Other new single releases this week come from Diplo & Sleepy Tom 'Be Right There', Take That 'Hey Boy' and X Factor winner from last year Ben Haenow collaborating with American Idol winner from years back Kelly Clarkson on 'Second Hand Heart'.

New album releases this week fighting for a #1 spot come from Nothing But Thieves with their self titled album 'Nothing But Thieves', Jamie Lawson with his self titled album 'Jamie Lawson' and Demi Lovato with 'Confident'. Other new album releases this week from Hillsong Worship, Fightstar, John Newman, Pentatonix, Scouting For Girls, Tori Kelly, Jean-Michel Jarre and Peter Andre to enter the album chart within the top 40.

I'd love for Ben Haenow to get the #1 spot but I think a lack of streaming sales (where the likes of One Direction will benefit) will let him down. Still he could get the #1 on downloads though.

Justin Bieber could earn himself a #1 album this week considering album sales are pretty low, with his new studio album 'Purpose',
Not sure how that's going to happen when the album's not out yet.

(it's out November 13 based on itunes)

Posted by: Adam's Cauldron Oct 17 2015, 10:17 AM

Well I hope KDA can bag themselves a #2 at least, and I hope Diplom (kink.gif) can get a top 10 (at least on sales?)

Hoping Demi's album does well too biggrin.gif

Well that's a shock ohmy.gif I guess pre-orders are helping KDA there! (plus no doubt some missing data as the Saturday mids always seem to be weird lol)

With streaming most likely missing as usual it is likely that One Direction may be #1 tomorrow (when it is included for Friday), but I fully expect KDA to debut at #1.

The Cliff Richard album is holding up very well with all of the recent pressure from the new entries above. Presumably it will be a big Xmas seller, you can't argue with 75 songs for a tenner if you have a Cliff fan in the family.

Posted by: James1987 Oct 20 2015, 10:55 AM

Really hoping that KDA can just hold out and stop 1D, Katy deserves to get her first number one!

Great to see such a clear out on the album chart, shame it won't push Ed out and no doubt Sam will probably recover enough to stay top 10...

1D caught up by 1.5k yesterday due to lots of missing streaming data added, not impossible for them to be #1 with the streaming data still being a bit iffy but KDA will probably take it. The Hills was the biggest seller yesterday but is too far behind to catch up I think.

Missing streaming data which when added never helps heldback releases. It should be enough with what it's sold so far but can never be certain. Cool was extremely close to being pushed out for example (although I don't recall what it had sold at this point in its week).

Wouldn't be so sure, with the video dropping tonight. In past cases, the video was either out before the release, or it got released a couple of weeks after the release, so I think it will stabilise the song. Not that I think it will climb to #1 anyway, if there's a chance for that to happen, it's after the X Factor performance when that undoubtedly happens.

Great to see KDA still leading the way on the singles chart but with just a 6k lead I'm worried the 1D video coming tonight will give them a last minute advantage sad.gif Katy B MUST get her first, long overdue number one it needs to happen...

At least Diplo's still top 5, should comfortably hold on to a top 7 finish especially as its now up to 2 on iTunes for now anyway

Really hope Peter Andre drops on the album chart...top 50 would be an awful result let alone top 5, I hope Ed Sheeran or Jess Glynne can make up some sales and push him down a few places...

Diplo's only ~2.5k ahead of R. City at #9 right now and they're outselling him so I wouldn't be sure of that top 7 finish just yet. Like Doctor Blind said, #9 looks realistic!

it would be a travesty of monumental proportions were that generic 1d dirge to somehow beat the mighty kda to #1~

great result for diplo yahoo.gif

Bit disappointed that Ben and Kelly not in the Top ten. Hopefully the gradual build up of promo will make it climb - video came out today.

I am not a fan of this OA/OS thing. Mainly because most people (meaning the general public not Buzzjackers) have no idea how it affects things and can't wait to call "flop"

True, true. But then again the whole 'charting on downloads alone' saga of 2005/6 was its equivalent when legal downloads began to be counted. It's just a very new concept for most still but it'll be second nature in two years from now. Like Olly went #16 with 'Kiss Me' last week, it's set to climb again going on midweeks as they are now. TBH I actually prefer it in some ways because it's less of the waiting from pent up weeks before it gets released.

Yes Olly debuting at #16 as someone who has a really big fanbase and past success shows you that this is not about Ben. But unfortunately being an XF winner means people are ready to jump on you right off the bat. However the media is being very supportive of him and the song. I even saw an article saying how well he had done to get to #7 in the first midweeks given no-one had heard the song before last Friday and no promo etc. Time will tell I think it will climb smile.gif You just don't want OA/OS giving out negative vibes from the word go.

I know what you mean completely. But I think Ben will be alright. I love 'Second Hand Heart' anyway, if it's any indication to what's on his album I'm pleased with the direction he's gone for, there's not many people doing that country inspired pop in music at the moment. He won't turn into James Arthur, put it that way.

Even James Masterton who you'd think would know better goes on about it being "surprising" when OAOS singles by major acts don't enter in the top 10.

I love 1D but they don't need to be #1 at all; it's not like they have a consecutive run of #1s and Drag Me Down this year was only their second lead single to peak at #1 after What Makes You Beautiful. They will have more success this era than they had with Four. That KDA song is an absolute bop and deserves the top spot very much.

Not all of it, but anything that is still missing they account for by up-weighting data received earlier in the week to work out (and include) what the data would have been on the days that are missing.

As a fan of Matt Cardle and Ben Haenow, without wanting to make excuses, Matt didn't have an OA/OS release. The music video was available at least a month before the song was released. I think Syco will be looking at long-term sales for Ben, #12 at this point I don't think is bad at all, given that the last series of X Factor was far from its most popular. By the time Matt released his single, One Direction and Cher Lloyd had already had #1 singles. Obviously top 10 would be nice but we'll find out tomorrow afternoon.

The rule was changed a few years ago. It is now (from the latest Chart Rules, published in March 2015):

4.0 Combining of Transactions

4.1 Criteria for Combining Transactions

c i) The featured song of a Top 40 single cannot be released as a B-side or extra track on a subsequent chart eligible single until the former has dropped out of the Top 40, subject to c ii) and c iii).

ii) If a song that has fallen out of Top 40 is then used as a B-side or extra title on a new release and the original song re-enters the Top 40, the new release will remain chart eligible.

iii) Labels may include previously unreleased remixes or alternative versions of a current Top 40 single on a new release providing the version used has not previously appeared on a chart eligible release.

iii) above should allow the EP to be chart eligible

Posted by: gooddelta Oct 22 2015, 08:30 PM

They really need to do something about this missing streaming data, how many weeks now have they been upweighting streams for to account for missing Thursday data? Essentially it's a fabricated figure making up part of the charts every week, whether it's determined on expected streams or not. As unlikely as it is, a song could get 300k streams all week and then 100k on Thursday but that extra 2k of chart sales could be the difference between a #1 and #2 single on a close week.

I should imagine its backdated to the switch over, when it all went tits up.

Posted by: gooddelta Oct 22 2015, 08:36 PM

Seems crazy to have a system in place where Apple and Spotify physically can't seem to manage the data in time to deliver accurate figures. Makes a mockery of the chart, as I wonder how many times in the last few weeks these upweighted figures have cost somebody a top 10/40 placing on a close week? Probably a few times at least.

Posted by: Doctor Death Oct 22 2015, 08:45 PM

I think they can be pretty accurate, after all they get the data eventually to corroborate. However anything that diverges from the weekly pattern could be either overestimated or underestimated.

Having said this no upweigting was applied to that 5 day chart week in July which was RIDICULOUS.

Posted by: Suedehead2 Oct 22 2015, 08:55 PM

Yes, the problem with streaming started with the change of chart date. Quite why that has proved so difficult for the streaming sites is a mystery to me.

Posted by: The Hit Parade Oct 22 2015, 09:41 PM

You'd think it would be easier to check the data on a weekday than a weekend, wouldn't you?

Posted by: Dircadirca Oct 23 2015, 03:35 AM

I wonder if the problem is that Spotify just has SOOO much data to trawl through and they haven't found a good way to automate the process (considering that their chart updates are never consistent and reliable). There'd be at least 10,000 songs played per second that they have to correctly categorise the country it's coming from, and then they have to frequently distribute the data to all the chart companies that need it. Nightmares just thinking about it.
