BuzzJack Music Forum _ Movies and Theatre _ Buzzjack Movie Awards 2015

Posted by: Josh Josh Binks 4th January 2016, 08:26 PM

Hello there and welcome to the opening round of Buzzjack's movie awards 2015. Below are some categories where you are able to nominate up to 5 things in each category (10 for best film), these will then be totalled up and sent through to the final round where you vote for your absolute favourites. Any film released in the UK from January 1st 2015 to January 29th 2015 (I've made a pretty definitive list below to help you out but feel free to add your own if they released in the UK between those dates) excluding some of last year's awards contenders (I have also included a list of ineligible films at the bottom). The end of this round will be at the beginning of February, exact date depending on number of responses. Please PM your nominations to me, thank you!

On lead actress/supporting actress split (as seem to be a few this year), I'd personally put Vikander in lead for The Danish Girl and Mara for Carol but you decide what category you think they belong in the end based on their opinion.

Looking forward to voting in this, will probably leave it couple of weeks though so I can try and catch Revenant/Room/Spotlight/Creed/Maybe H8Ful Eight
Also if there is a film you want to nominate that isn't on either of the above list, please post in this thread and ask us as we may have missed it out accidentally! (For instance just realised there was no Testament Of Youth so added that smile.gif )

Also please use this thread to make cases and remind others of films, particular performances you want nominated and try and convince people to see their film or remind them of their performance. A bit like a FOY (for your consideration) thing! Also feel free to use like pics and that to make it stand out more!

A couple of my FOY (will do more later!):
BROOKLYN
Best Picture
Best Actress: Saoirse Ronan
Best Supporting Actor: Emery Cohen
Best Supporting Actress: Julie Walters
Best Script
Best Drama Movie

ALICIA VIKANDER (because she's been superb this year)
Best Actress: The Danish Girl
Best Actress: Testament Of Youth
Best Supporting Actress: Ex_Machina

HOME
Best Picture
Best Animated Picture
Best Vocal Performance- Rihanna

Hope you get the point heart.gif

Ooh I like that idea Uv!

Don't forgot how good Chappie was as a character guys! :') I really liked Yolandi in it a lot too but seems nobody else did :/

A bit gutted Birdman is ineligible though because just watched it today and Edward Norton is insanely talented, bit gutted he just sort of disappeared for the last act sad.gif

Posted by: Jonjowman ⛄ 4th January 2016, 11:52 PM

How long do we have for this? I'm waiting to see 'Carol', 'Joy', 'Revenant', 'Danish Girl' and 'Hateful 8' at least before nominating in this! ohmy.gif

Looking forward to this a lot though.

Deadline will be 31st January earliest, probably early February likely but also latest!

Posted by: Jonjowman ⛄ 5th January 2016, 12:01 AM

Excellent.

Also, I meant 'Room' instead of 'Carol', but if I find time to watch the latter before, then bonus!

EDIT: Oh and 'Kingsman' for best scene in a movie for the massive Church scene!

Posted by: Acidburn 5th January 2016, 12:57 AM

I'm gonna do mine very soon

Posted by: Cody SlayBarry 5th January 2016, 01:56 AM

Are we not gonna have a "Best Villain" or "Best Soundtrack/Soundteack Song/Score" anywhere? The latter in particular.

Posted by: richie 5th January 2016, 08:46 AM

Didn't watch very many on the definitive list so I'll just nominate two.

Best Director - Sarah Gavron for Suffragette
Best Animated Film - Big Hero 6

Best Song was actually meant to be on there but it looks like the category just didn't get copied and pasted accidentally! The song category I'm pretty sure was on the list of categories we we're including smile.gif Anyway added that to the first post!

I did think about Best Villian but the problem with that is that it could cause spoilers in case it is a surprise villian so don't think it is the best idea!

Posted by: Josh Josh Binks 5th January 2016, 04:23 PM

Yeah, song was supposed to be on there but I messed up when finally compiling the list!

You can nominate films that aren't on that list, that was just to give people a good idea of eligible films that they are likely to have seen!

Posted by: UltraChristmas 5th January 2016, 11:55 PM

I had quite a bit of free time now so I have added all eligable movies to the opening post so please check again if you are struggling for movies to nominate heart.gif Mostly smaller and indie movies added, loads of horrors added and a couple of bigger films such as Straight Outta Compton and Legend smile.gif

Also feel free to use this thread to write the movies in the opening post you have seen to make it easier for your shortlist!

True, but I'm lazy! I didn't actually go to the pics that much last year. If you've a foreign film category then I'll nominate The Further Adventures of Belle and Sebastian!

Posted by: UltraChristmas 8th January 2016, 07:33 PM

My next For Your Consideration movie:
(will probably do a few eventually)

AMY
Best Picture
Best Scene In A Movie
Best Box Office Performance

Hoping Amy can get a nod here despite being a documentary movie!

Also would anyone be interested in a Best British Film category or not?

Posted by: UltraChristmas 9th January 2016, 12:45 AM

Finally ordered something! Will only change my nominations for when I see new movies!
Is it just me or are the Actor categories really weak this year? I had 8 contenders for Best Actor compared to the 27 for Best Actress! Also oops at Joel Egerton missing out on two nominations for best supporting actor in 6th and 7th in my votes kink.gif

Movies with 3 or more nominations
Brooklyn
Chappie
Ex_Machina
Home
Inside Out
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Joy
Mad Max: Fury Road
Mockingjay: Part 2
Spectre
Spy
Star Wars 7
Steve Jobs
Testament Of Youth
The Danish Girl
The Good Dinosaur
The Man From U.N.C.L.E

Notes
Two of the five films with the highest nomination tally missed out on a nomination for best picture despite the expanded field.
On the other hand, 3 movies that got nominated for best picture only received 1 other nomination from me so are no on the above list
It's a Brooklyn/Joy/Star Wars 7 love fest for me with these movies receiving a combined 32 nominations between them!
Melissa McCarthy was very very unlucky to miss out on a Best Actress nomination due to how tough the category was. Quite a lot only just missed out in a big battle for 5th spot (the top 4 were locked)

Posted by: Josh Josh Binks 14th January 2016, 10:41 PM

Only 2-ish weeks left guys!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 14th January 2016, 10:57 PM

Deadline is 12 February in just under a month smile.gif Not expecting too many to vote now due to all of us wanting to catch more movies but please start getting them in early February at the latest!

I'm submitting mine on the 6th February after I've seen Spotlight! Aiming to see Spotlight, Creed, Revenant, Room, Big Short (all definites) and maybe The 5th Wave, Carol & Bridge Of Spies

Also please can we have some more posts for people campaigning for movies to increase hype heart.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 18th January 2016, 09:08 PM

Can I push for Jacob Tremblay to be included in "Best Actor" as opposed to "Supporting" please?

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 18th January 2016, 09:10 PM

Yes definitely! I've also put him in lead actor as well in my nominations I'm working on!

Posted by: J▲hq 18th January 2016, 09:19 PM

Seeing Creed & The Big Short this coming weekend and Spotlight the one after hopefully then I'll be ready to submit!

Going to do a For Your Consideration for a movie which probably won't garner much attention (but everyone should see!!!)

Tangerine
Best Film
Best Female Lead Performance - Kitana Kiki Rodriguez
Best Female Supporting Performance - Mya Taylor
Best Male or Female Newcomer - Kitana Kiki Rodriguez & Mya Taylor
Best Director - Sean S. Baker

And if there was a Best Soundtrack/Score category I'd be campaigning for that too!

Posted by: Josh Josh Binks 18th January 2016, 10:22 PM

Oh, I've put Tremblay in Supporting in mine just cause that's what SAG did,. Lead is not that competitive though so depending on what everyone else does I might do the same.

Can I remind everyone how good Johnny Depp was in Black Mass, been forgotten this awards season but he was SO scary.

Posted by: Jonjo 19th January 2016, 03:13 PM

I think my main ones I need to see now are 'Straight Outta Compton', 'The Big Short' & 'Spotlight'. Then I'm ready. The other two I can't watch without my mate though, so I have to wait until beg of Feb for those! sad.gif

SOC I'll watch either tonight or tomorrow night.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 20th January 2016, 11:07 PM

My Next Movie For Your Consideration!

JOY
Consider in:
Best Film
Best Female Lead- Jennifer Lawrence
Best Male Supporting- Edgar Ramirez
Best Male Supporting- Bradley Cooper
Best Director- David O'Russell
Best Drama Film
Best Ensemble
Best Script
Best Character- Joy

TESTAMENT OF YOUTH
Consider in:
Best Film
Best Lead Actress- Alicia Vikander
Best Supporting Actor- Taron Egerton
Best Newcomer- Alicia Vikander (also for Ex_Machina, The Danish Girl & The Man From U.N.C.L.E)
Best Drama Film

About 2 weeks left!!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 31st January 2016, 10:33 PM

Nearly ready to send in mine, just Big Short + Spotlight to see now!

Revenant has got nowhere on my ballot and have put Creed in 3, maybe 4 categories!

Struggling so much with Best Picture (have about 13 I want to nominate) and Best Actress (have about 15 I want to nominate)!

Posted by: Jonjo 1st February 2016, 01:10 AM

Nothing for 'The Revenant', at all? ohmy.gif I don't get that, but eh, whatever floats your boat I guess... sad.gif

Just got 'The Big Short' to watch myself now and if I find time to do so, I'll try and get 'Carol' in before I nominate.

Posted by: •Josh• 1st February 2016, 07:57 AM

The Big Short really was bad, thought I'd be a fan but one of the movies furthest away from my noms laugh.gif I still want to see Spotlight before I hand in my noms but not sure if that'll be possible actually sad.gif

The Revenant was beautiful and had some big highs but it's length was a real problem for me, no way that I can deny Leo one of noms though, he was terrific.

Jonjo, you have to watch Carol! My favourite film from Oscars season aside from Room, such an engaging tale and some fantastic acting, Cate Blanchett as my favourite performance up until Brie Larson.

Posted by: Jonjo 1st February 2016, 02:00 PM

Just realised I have a few more I need/actually want to hopefully see ('Bridge Of Spies'/'Macbeth') but I should be able to get them in, easily.

Can I also push for people to consider Bradley Cooper in 'Burnt' for "Best Lead Actor". His performance was really, really good in that. Probably my favourite role from him (despite the film not doing much for me generally)

Posted by: •Josh• 1st February 2016, 03:13 PM

I agree with Bradley Cooper, Jonjo, got him in my top 5 at the moment but might kick him out if you all decide Jacob Tremblay is a lead then I'll go with you lot!

Talking about Macbeth, thinking about putting Marion Cotillard in the supporting category because I liked what she did with the character but a few people are fighting for spots in that one.

Posted by: J▲hq 1st February 2016, 03:32 PM

The only reason Jacob Tremblay would go in supporting is to pump some life into a category that I consider to be LACKING compared to the rest.

Nothing from me either, but not out of pure hatred kink.gif

Oh and I'm sure you don't need to see 'The Big Short' before submitting noms. It will change nothing, honestly angel.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 1st February 2016, 03:44 PM

Haha! tongue.gif

I also hope people aren't just going for the "awards season" movies for these awards! Taron deserves a couple of nods for 'Kingsman'! sad.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 1st February 2016, 04:18 PM

Taron was in my final 5 till yesterday, B. Jordan knocked him out!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 6th February 2016, 02:44 PM

Saw The Big Short, enjoyed it but don't think it's going to make it into any of my nominations! Just Spotlight to go and then I'm all ready heart.gif

Also I will be sending a load of pm reminders tomorrow as the deadline is now in under a week smile.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 6th February 2016, 03:27 PM

Save the reminder for me coz I will do it. I'm watching Bridge Of Spies tomorrow and if I can be arsed I'll watch Carol tonight!

Posted by: •Josh• 6th February 2016, 03:35 PM

You have to watch Carol, Jonjo! Such a beautiful story and so elegantly told/shot with some insane acting too, my second favourite film of awards season behind Room, really deserved a Best Picture nomination..

Gonna watch 'Carol' tonight and then get sorting now that I've seen 'Bridge Of Spies'!

Posted by: •Josh• 8th February 2016, 05:12 PM

Only four days left so almost there, some noms are really close so far (best scene doesn't even have one scene with more than one vote yet!) so as many as possible would be lovely. Thanks to all those who have sent so far, the results are looking interesting.

Posted by: Jonjo 8th February 2016, 05:15 PM

I saw 'Carol' last night, so I am now content with having only not seen 'Macbeth' (which is on my to do list, but my mate will kill me if I watch that without him!)

Excited to actually look through the categories and get my noms in!

Posted by: •Josh• 8th February 2016, 05:18 PM

I think the way they incorporated the 'everything comes full circle' line into Carol with the start and end being the same was like my favourite things aside from the acting. Cate Blanchett really needs some more love here so far guys!!!1

Posted by: •Josh• 10th February 2016, 01:01 PM

Only two days left now, more responses would be nice... Some are so close!

Posted by: Jonjo 10th February 2016, 01:31 PM

AHHH! I forgot to rank them last night!

I will do this tonight (sometime after midnight - 'Deadpool' comes first ;D ). Please PM me coz I might forget!

Posted by: Regina 10th February 2016, 03:37 PM

Dumb question time, do you need to nominate in all the categories? I've not seen enough films to do them all but wanna take part laugh.gif

Posted by: •Josh• 10th February 2016, 04:05 PM

No not at all, and you don't have to nominate five in each. You can nominate as many as you like (up to the limit of course) in any amount of categories!

Posted by: Regina 10th February 2016, 04:13 PM

Awesome, will get this done asap.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 10th February 2016, 11:04 PM

Really big shocks, make sure you get your votes in before Friday heart.gif

My bad, sorted now. Sorry! biggrin.gif

Posted by: •Josh• 12th February 2016, 12:07 PM

The final votes have been passed on to UV now! Thanks for all your entries! If you have any last minute votes then we'll still have them biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 12th February 2016, 02:04 PM

You have till 23:59PM tonight to submit votes, would be much appreciated to have some more votes!

There will be a results presentation tomorrow starting around 7/8pm so hopefully loads of you turn up and comment and we can make it really fun heart.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 12th February 2016, 09:50 PM

2 hours left to vote, please do! If you are sending votes now, you can send them to Josh or me- not sure if Josh will be online before midnight + he doesn't have time to add up the extra ballots, and we both have the same up-to-date totals so it is fine sending me the nominations and might be easier for the last couple of hours heart.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 13th February 2016, 12:02 AM

Thanks for the incredible turnout, 17 which is terrific!

Tomorrow I'll be presenting the Buzzjack Movie Awards Nominations on here with proper commentary and everything so should be fun, hope you all come here for that! Afterwards Jahq & I will be revealing the Razzies Nominations! More info will be posted in those threads coming up very soon! Also tiebreaker threads (16 to seperate across the 2 awards) also coming up now!
