Totally up to you how you lay out this geekery but it might be cool to see. Any interesting patterns? I would love to list all my entries and the exact year of each but that would involve quite a bit of looking up and I cba at the moment lol. So for now I went with decades:

1990s - 1 entry
2000s - 19 entries
2010s - 29 entries

I need to up my 90s game (and maybe throw in a bit of 50s x). I had a period where I mostly sent 00s songs, followed by the long period I'm in now where I've mostly sent 10s songs, with a few exceptions being 00s (mind.in.a.box, Yoko Kanno etc.)

The longest run of entries from the same decade was when I sent 17 entries from 2010s in a row, from Tzlil in BJSC 85 to Lusine in BJSC 105. My oldest entry is Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy (1991).

All my entries are from the 2010s with the exception of:

1990s: Y-Traxx - Mystery Land
2000s: DJ Mangoo ~ Eurodancer / Dutch Force ~ Deadline (Vocal Radio Edit)

A few more when counting spin-offs however:

1980s: Frankie Knuckles & Jamie Principle ~ Your Love
1990s: Ayla ~ Ayla (DJ Taucher Remix) / Cygnus X ~ The Orange Theme / Brainbug ~ Nightmare (Sinister Strings Edit)
2000s: Camille Jones vs. Fedde Le Grand ~ The Creeps / Lange ~ Follow Me (feat. The Morrighan) / Steve Hill & Technikal ~ Technique / Masters At Work ~ Work (Riffs & Rays Radio Edit)

As far as I'm aware, all my mainline contest entries are from the 2010s, though more than usual are from the first half of that decade, as in I have plenty from 2010-2012 that were entered years later.

With the exception of two:
BJSC 43 - Shell Perris - Where Is My Happy Ending (from 2008? I can't remember exactly, late 00s I think)

and

BJSC 115 - Eiko Shimamiya - Naraku No Hana (from 2007)

my Higurashi stanning giving my oldest entry! Not something I often think about doing, I must admit.

All 2010s with a few exceptions:

Llamas In Need / Did You Ever See a Llama? AKA The Llama Song (2004, lol)
Jaimeson / Complete (2003, wow this was such a random send looking back)
Gjallarhorn / Konungen Och Trollkvinnan (1997)
Cusco / Orpheus & Eurydice (2003)
Goblin / Suspiria (1977(!))

Birds Flying High, Mutiny and Supurgesi... are also remakes of much older songs, if you want to count them lmao, as are a lot of my spin off entries but a lot of themes actually centre around them being older sooo

^ I forgot Gjallarhorn was that old!

Surprisingly in the whole time I've been entering this I've only ever sent one song from before the turn of the millennium (µ-Ziq's 'Hasty Boom Alert' from 1997). The next oldest I've sent was from 2005 (Achillea's 'Ragnarok - Twilight Of The Gods') and everything else is no older than 2009. I quite often send songs that are a few years old but clearly very rarely dig back any further than that.

Similar to Chez quite a few of my entries (especially recent ones) are remakes of much older songs though. Heilung's 'Othan' uses a poem from the 13th century (or possibly earlier) as the bulk of its lyrics which may be the oldest (Achillea I think was also based on an ancient Viking poem). And also sent a handful of older songs to spinoffs as well.

I couldn't even tell you a list of my entries, ne'ermind about what decade they are from! laugh.gif

Out of ones I do remember I feel like Lamb's Gorecki may be the oldest, being from 1997.

haha yeah when going through mine, I did realise that my latest entry was a remake of a traditional Afghan folk song (so presumably older tongue.gif) but I just counted the actual entry. Cool that you have quite a few like that though!

Also apparently Hooverphonic - Mad About You was recorded in 1999 but released in 2000 so I put that in the 00s pile haha. For some reason I'm really surprised I've only got one from the 90s!

spin-off entries aside, the song I've sent with the earliest release was The Birthday Massacre's "In The Dark" and that was only 2010 so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Years of contests here as well to give context- so BJSC 84-90 was (mostly) much more recent than it might seem at first glance.

BJSC 119 // TBA (2003) ohmy.gif #spoilers

Pre-2000s: 0
2000s: 4
2010s: 30

So nothing pre 00s yet. My last pre-2010 entry was BJSC 94 with Port Blue at 2007 and Copeland (BJSC 91) is currently my oldest entry- so going to end a 2010s streak and break a personal oldest entry record for the upcoming contest.

I suppose I tend to look for new discoveries, find things that I've discovered through similar artist scrolling on Last.fm, things my friends share from Spotify discover playlists, side projects from band members or features that I looked up, game playlists- not things that generally you'd discover older music through. It makes sense that most "discoveries" would be more recent I think. I occasionally still discover older music I suppose but most of the time I find that they either won't fit the contest, or they're just well known and would be an instant veto. A huge thing about this contest is contemporary sound, finding a song that could legit be a hit if it were more well known and introducing new genres and sounds that people might not have heard much of before. It's not necessary (see the year of my next entry x) but I like that vibe.

I've probably got a fairly different attitude towards the contest compared to when I first started entering thinking about it- I tended to enter lots of things I'd been discovering over a period of 2-3 years and had a BACKLOG of songs to enter and just wanted to get them all out there. Also killed me trying to pick a single song from some artists. My taste has somewhat shifted since then I think, I still love all my old entries but I'm drawn to entering fairly different stuff now, or at least even more of a variety (which tbf I think I did a fair bit even at the start despite the #rockbloc label). Now I think "well what would other people like that I like", not that my ultimate aim is to do well in the contest (all lies I'm really really desperate for a win) but because if I can't think "oh I really think x country/ countries would LOVE this" then why am I sharing it? I could still listen to it myself without making it an entry but the contest is about sharing music. Of course my priority is loving or at least really liking my own entries because even doing well in the contest would feel empty with a song I didn't enjoy. All that said the next one is a bit of a classic Aelandor sound with a bit of a post DNQ protest entry. Going back to a really old potential but I think it'll have a nostalgic sound some people will hopefully latch on to.

80s - 1
90s - 3
00s - 30
10s - 84

Mostly I send stuff that's relatively recent, either a release from the current year, or from the prior few years. I've sent my 80s and all three 90s entries in the last few years.
