I don't think it's unreasonable to have hoped a collaboration between Zedd and Katy Perry would get more airplay off the bat. Capital haven't touched it yet, disappointingly, and I'd have hoped R1 might have played it a little more.

Chico in the iTunes top 100 in 2019 *.*!

Lmao at Red Hot Chilli Pipers getting another iTunes $ma$h that isn't 'Auld Lang Syne'. Tom Walker still milking 'Leave A Light On' even as he is finally having a second proper hit biggrin.gif

R1 will only play a track on its A List 4 or 5 times a day though so for it to have 2 plays today already is pretty good going and it got a spin after release yesterday. They won’t snub it because they love Zedd and Katy. Kiss has also played it a few times today too.

Posted by: 365 15th February 2019, 03:26 PM

To be fair I didn't know it was played on the Breakfast show because that play wasn't registered on their last fm for some reason.

I think probably because one is Clean Bandit's single, and one is hers.

And also Ellie's song is from the film Fighting With My Family, which is out in a couple of weeks.

This will be the fifth soundtrack single she's released, but she's had probably another 5 or 6 soundtrack appearances:

How Long Will I Love You
Beating Heart
Love Me Like You Do
Still Falling For You
Do You Remember

Posted by: Bjork 16th February 2019, 05:54 PM

but is the song from the soundtrack gonna be pushed as a single?
or it's just a random song included in a random soundtrack like Sia does every now and then?

I forgot that 'How Long Will I Love You' was also a film soundtrack song (although IIRC it was on her album before that so this is 'only' her fourth new single made specifically for a film soundtrack, but that still seems like a very high number for an artist who hasn't been around that long in the grand scheme of things).

Hardly surprising given Cardi B (the lead artist) isn't as big here and Katy is coming off the back of an era that wasn't exactly well received. Although its early days for both songs

Wouldn’t say it’s that disappointing for Cardi considering it’s not on any radio playlists yet and she’s only had one top twenty single as a lead artist in the UK. Also worth noting it has continued to rise since Friday whereas other new releases have all fallen.

Nice to see things finally lining up for this. Sometimes all it takes is patience, even with the biggest acts (and messy single campaigns).

Yes, you're right, i guess people were used to see Little Mix's singles smash straight away but Think About Us has proven to be a sleeper hit.

Up to #28 in today's midweek update, was #36 yesterday

New P!nk Walk Me Home is no 20. I’m fascinated by how this campaign goes. Despite her being nearly 40 and having multiple albums, What About Us did decently on streaming and was playlisted on Radio 1. Curious how much longer she can avoid the “legacy” label.

Posted by: Bjork 20th February 2019, 09:08 AM

but What About Us did amazing cos of iTunes, Spotify is kinda responsible for the song not being #1

where do you see Pink at #20? Just checked kworb and livepopbars and it's not there

Posted by: Whoody4Paramore 20th February 2019, 09:12 AM

Hopefully Pink goes top 20 or even top 10 officially after her Brits performance!

I seem to remember it went top 15 on Spotify and hung around for ages. Which is great for a female over 35 on their 7th album. I can’t really think of anybody else in the same position who has done as well on Spotify other than Sia and Nicki Minaj.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 20th February 2019, 09:40 AM

'What About Us' actually went top 10 on Spotify.

It still massively irks me that 'Beautiful Trauma' wasn't added to HH, they totally sabotaged that. mad.gif

Yeah I remember WAU at number 5 on Spotify UK chart.

Beautiful Trauma was not playlisted at all. Such a shame. Catchy song and fun video

YES Jorja her peformance was stunning so glad she won Best Female as well .

Posted by: Jordan Lee 20th February 2019, 11:27 PM

I had a feeling Jorja would’ve had a big boost. It helps that she was the least known performer amongst the GP so it would’ve been the first time many had heard Don’t Let Me Cry as many tracks performed have already been big selling hits.

Albums wise she’s #2! Highest she’s been since release week I think if ever! I know it peaked at #3 officially

Jorja now up to #12, The 1975 at #29

Why does Pink continue to have hits 20 years on while Britney has not been relevant in 10 years? Same with Rihanna having hits?

Pink seems like she still loves what she does where as Britney doesn’t appear to have that spark in my opinion.
Plus Pink always does more promotion so you’re more aware of when she’s releasing and she can sell a live performance too.
Plus her best material always feels like it’s still to come. She got her biggest single in 2012, 6 albums in. She’s always the underdog. She’s also radio friendly and likeable and her appeal crosses over she doesn’t just appeal to one section of the market like Britney now does.

Rihanna had a similar start to Pink in terms of growing in success after her debut but Rihanna’s key to success is her versatility as she changes with each album and can feature on songs from artists of completely different genres.

Because Pink established herself as an artists rather than an industry puppet. She evolved and became a great live entertainer too. So there is still stock in her new music.

Britney is an aging label puppet and younger people would rather go for a younger puppet they relate too.

The song is 16 months old and 16 months in the spotlight, it isn't like this is people's first exposure to it.

The Greatest Showman album will benefit most, it will get picked up again in supermarkets and people who haven't listened to it for a while will stream the album again.

That's coz Britney stopped to care for promotion since 2008.
She was still around with Femme Fatale era (2011)
Work Bitch was hit in some aspects and it's now one of hers signature '10 hits.
Scream & Shout was massive.

She has lost her success with Pretty Girls (deservedly) and with Glory era (2016) (undeservedly).

I think Pink is just more commercially respected. Britney's music has always stayed in that "pop" realm which isn't always respected, but Pink has an edge to her where she can appeal to a Radio 1 and Radio 2 crowd which has allowed her to remain relevant in both younger and older age groups for a great amount of time. What About Us was a great example of her adapting to what is successful whilst keeping it classy and fundamentally Pink. Alternatively, she's able to drop a "Just Give Me A Reason", which is the type of song that will be big at any time because the UK in particular love a well performed piano ballad. So, I guess "vocal", not to shade Brit cos I love her, has to play into it too.

Posted by: 365 21st February 2019, 03:26 PM

^That's correct. Pink started off as a kind of "anti" Britney Spears, which always felt like something that more people could get on board with as it gives them they impression they're liking something anti-mainstream when it still very much is. And now she's kind of an artist that is seen as "authentic". She's known as a respectable vocalist/performer and doesn't make anything remotely daring so it's VERY easy for Heart FM listeners to get on board.
