BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ ML Hammer's Urban Old School Anthems

Posted by: ML Hammer95 Dec 5 2015, 11:05 PM

coming soon...

As for my definition of 'Old School', anything released before and in 2008 is fair game to me. Still feel 2009-11 is too recent, even if much of the music released then sounds quite dated now!

First update Monday. All comments are welcomed and encouraged. smile.gif

We start with a famous collaboration...

Beyonce feat. Sean Paul - Baby Boy (2003)

Huge US #1, this Arabic influenced R&B/Dancehall track was the follow up to Crazy In Love. A collaboration between two of the hottest stars of 2003, 'Baby Boy' reached #2 in the UK.

As much as I love him, I promise not to make all these Old School anthems Sean Paul songs... laugh.gif

All Sean Paul songs works for me cool.gif Very strong way to kick it off, a big favourite from both of their discographies for me wub.gif

What a Gem *.*

Released during Sean Paul's imperial phase of course! This still works well in clubs and at parties too.

Perfect sultry tune that from Beyoncé and a great feature from Sean Paul.

Classic sounding Hip Hop for you all today...

P Diddy feat. Ginuwine, Mario Winans & Loon - I Need A Girl (Part 2) (2002)

Part 1 with Usher was a hit, but I've always preferred Part 2 of 'I Need A Girl'. The instrumental sounds very similar to '21 Questions' and this is what I'd describe as 'driving music'!

Powerful song from 2004 today...

Kanye West - Jesus Walks

P.Diddy and Kanye *.*

Ciara feat. Missy Elliott - 1,2 Step

Big record from 2005, this was the follow up to UK #1 'Goodies'. Fitting into the Crunk phase of the time, 1,2 Step proved popular in both clubs and on radio. The pair also collaborated on 'Lose Control' from the same year.

2PLAY feat. Raghav & JUCXI - So Confused (2004)

At the start of 2004, dancehall and reggae was at it's commercial peak. 2003 was dominated by Sean Paul and songs from Wayne Wonder, Lumidee and Kevin Little were amongst the best selling singles of the year. So naturally, this received heavy airplay at the time and charted in the top 10.

Very forgotten now, but its arguably those records that remind you of a time period best!

'Jesus Walks' is a massive favourite of mine. Certainly in my top 2/3 Kanye songs.
