Chart Commentary

A big thank you to all those 10 of you who commented on last week's personal chart, including Sven10, danG, Jason, toffonews, 360Jupiter, Dobbo, PeteFromLeeds, RobinJuanPersie, seltinpixmile and HarryApa.

Last week we announced that Steps were very much still #1 contenders and they have now achieved the inevitable and reached the top, after 7 weeks. Scared Of The Dark is the group's first official single in 15 years. They've come back in 2017 with a new single and new studio album too. Expect more from them later in the year!

The Cure only lasted one week at #1 but it continues to be a popular hit and could enjoy quite a nice chart run in the coming weeks. Clean Bandit continue to maintain a strong run in the Top 5 and could repeat the success of Rockabye. LP is this week's highest new entry with her single Lost On You, which was originally released in 2015, but has gained some attention with the forthcoming release of her album by the same title. Cheat Codes are in the Top 10 mix this week with the help of Demi Lovato and so are Paramore with Hard Times — this week's track of the week.

Half of the new entries for this week are dance tracks. We see new entries from Mike Perry, Infernal and Cascada, all looking to have smash hits this summer. Shawn Mendes makes an entry too with his new single which could do very well in the UK. At the bottom of the chart we see DNCE make an appearance with the unexpected rapping from Nicki Minaj (this becomes Nicki's fourth featured entry in the Top 40 this week following Swalla, Run Up and Light My Body Up). Lastly we have room for Charlie Puth's single, Attention, which is this week's #37.

7 chart casualties this week, but perhaps most notable is the former #1 by Jax Jones feat. RAYE who exit the Top 40 Countdown after 19 weeks.
