Although for the U.K. I would say Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, DJ Khalad, Justin Biebar everywhere and Despacito. DAMN has been my personal highlight although not a massive success in the U.K. Can't say I'll be placing Drake as a memory of 2017. More a relief that he's not going to fluke more success in our charts like he managed in 2016. Not even with him having over 10 album tracks in the top 40 singles chart in one week earlier this year? Perhaps Kendrick is more of a US thing but his album did do quite well here also. |

I would too! But the likelihood of that happening these days is extremely unlikely now OA/OS has been done away with. Kungs got very lucky that R1 picked it up iirc & it was popular enough to take off. "This Girl" was massive around Europe though before it became big in the UK though iirc, and I thought that might have been the reason it was picked up by Radio 1. |

True, that's basically how every unknown dance track gets viral in this country. I wonder what the DJ's are playing in clubs in Ibiza right now, surely there's got to be something out there that will get some mainstream attention? |

QUOTE Not even with him having over 10 album tracks in the top 40 singles chart in one week earlier this year? Perhaps Kendrick is more of a US thing but his album did do quite well here also. Only 1 Top 5 hit though with Passionfruit. I'd personally say not, but that's just my personal view. I just think looking back on 2017 I won't be remembering Drake, with everything else that's already happened. I will admit to disliking Drake's music so maybe there's some bias in there on my part but I do associate him heavily with 2016 for obvious reasons. Was really hoping DAMN would've broken the Top 20 albums of the year for sales by now in the U.K. Although not the deepest album by any stretch of the imagination, it's a clever album in many ways and a real delight. |

I think Instruction will be a hit but it's not like dance hits peak in week #1 anymore, needs airplay and time, sure R1 will add it soon...
it has been now added to the Hot hits playlist on Spotify, the effect has been immediate and it's already #55 on Spotify today, so top 50 soon possibly and from there, the only way is up |

I wonder what the DJ's are playing in clubs in Ibiza right now, surely there's got to be something out there that will get some mainstream attention? The big European dance hits at the moment are these, I'd say: Ofenbach - Be Mine Major Lazer - Sua Cara (feat. Anitta & Pabllo Vittar) Lartiste - Chocolat (feat. Awa Imani) Robin Schulz - OK (feat. James Blunt) Felix Jaehn, Hight & Alex Aiono - Hot2Touch Axwell Λ Ingrosso - More Than You Know Honestly, I can't see any of those hitting the top 40. Shame as we've had no MASSIVE dance hits in Europe this year because Despacito has been the main focus everywhere. |

Came Here For Love and Feels look set to be big summer tunes here.
As far as Euro dance stuff, I haven't really noticed anything making huge waves across Europe which I think would get U.K. attention. Despacito is still everywhere and probably will stay that way until September. |

I think we're still due to have it. The other 'hit of the summer' Jonas Blue & JP Cooper's "Perfect Strangers" didn't take off until mid-July having been out for a few weeks so it's likely this year's is already out and just hasn't taken off yet. Probably the Jax Jones track but who knows? Obviously this isn't a completely unknown name but it doesn't always have to be! Jonas Blue managed to dodge the '2nd single syndrome' there, and Jax Jones has only had 1 hit on his own so far.

Ofenbach - Be Mine had potential if a radio station actually picked it up! MTV Dance had it on rotation for the past few weeks but it's gone now so I'd assume the impact date for it has been and gone too which is a shame.
This year's summer banger is definitely Despacito though. |

The funny thing is that Despacito is the song of the summer all over Europe
but in most countries people are buying the original version, not the one with Bieber I noticed first in Spain and thought it was normal, but then noticed it's the same in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy, etc... no Bieber love The only other song that I see charting all over Europe, although not super high anywhere, is Enrique's Subeme la Radio, doing well everywhere except the UK |

I know it won't happen now but I'm still surprised Jaded - In The Morning didn't happen majorly.

Only now are songs like Icarus - King Kong and almost certainly in a few weeks, Instruction being playlisted in the daytime, so maybe times are changing and we will see a dance revival in late 2017 and 2018. |

I'm not sure about that. Dance music became more mainstream again in 2009 thanks to David Guetta and Calvin Harris. Maybe 2005 then would be a better comparison with this year in terms of chart wise urban and pop dominating rather than dance although at least the big dance hits that year were were not watered down and very poppy like this year, and there was a summer dance banger in the form of Shot You Down and perhaps another one judging by its long chart run through the summer, I See Girls. |
