Dexton's Top 40 (27/02/2017) (Week 42)
Another new #1!  Not exactly new though, as Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse's Katchi climbs for a 4th consecutive week up to #1 (the biggest climb to #1 in my charts history too, debuting at just #33). Climbing more modestly is Khalid's Location featuring Jorja Smith & Wretch 32 (3-2), leaving last week's #1 Friends to fall to #3. A brand new debut this week is also at #4, with Imagine Dragons' Next To Me which was a late addition (I think?) to their Evolve album. Next To Me immediately outpeaks Whatever It Takes, although to be fair that did have two separate runs on my chart  Down at #5 is Justin Timberlake's Filthy.Just outside the Top 5 is Kojo Funds & RAYE's Check (15-6), followed by Rudimental, Vera Blue, Fall Out Boy, and CLiQ in the Top 10. Vera Blue's Regular Touch is Holland-Oats selected champion for BJSC 102, and actually qualified this month as opposed to the heartbreaking failure of Morgan Saint's YOU (which actually falls out of the chart this week, fittingly). CLiQ's Wavey featuring Alika debuts at #10, becoming the first entry for both artists involved - and it's a banger! Notable climbs this week come from Niall Horan's On The Loose (37-18), The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar's Pray For Me (28-22), Pink's Secrets (39-24), and Noah Kahan & Julia Michaels' Hurt Somebody (33-36). On The Loose surprisingly becomes Niall's first Top 20 hit here, for some reason my chart snubbed Slow Hands (which I loved) and then again Too Much To Ask (another snub) and I even enjoyed most of his album... oh well... On The Loose is growing on me a lot! Non-Top 10 new entries this week come from the likes of Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, Vance Joy, Jorja Smith x Preditah (!), The Wombats, Bazzi, and 5 Seconds of Summer! Ed Sheeran's first solo entry to my chart is Supermarket Flowers right up at #12, debuting after being performed at the Brits and has grown on me a lot since then. George Ezra's Paradise has only just hit me, but it's hit me hard, and debuts at #23 with hopes of climbing in the coming weeks. Likewise is Vancy Joy's We're Going Home at #32, propelled into the Top 40 by the release of his album - which is also my album chart #1 this week! Vance Joy dethroning Justin Timberlake, who woulda thought? Another single which has hit me very, very, very late is Jorja Smith's On My Mind. Jorja Smith is the girl of the moment for me right now I think, LOVED Let Me Down (and still do) and she just elevates Khalid's Location so much for me, so now I dug back a bit and actually gave grime Jorja a chance... and I'm really digging it  In the album chart this week we have a brand new #1 from Vance Joy, who is actually blocking Justin from matching Eminem's chart record of 4 weeks at #1 here! Nation of Two was quite a surprising album, even though the singles outshine the album tracks for the most part, it is a really solid album I have so far enjoyed listening through Lay It On Me remains my favourite Vance Joy song to date (gasp) and shines on this album, I highly recommend it if you haven't heard it yet too! The Wombats debut at #4 also, led by Lemon To A Knife Fight which enters the Top 40 at #37. Thanks for coming! Dexton's Top 40 (06/03/2017) (Week 43)
A quite week (for once)  Well, in terms of new entries anyway! This week Katchi spends another week at #1 whilst the entire rest of the chart spends its time shuffling about. Climbing to #2 is Imagine Dragons' Next To Me, becoming the bands biggest hit on my chart following Thunder's peak of #3 (both original and K.Flay remix made this peak). Also climbing is Kojo Funds & RAYE's Check (6-3), coming closer & closer to giving RAYE her second #1 on my chart. Will she ever get it? The Top 5 is completed by Marshmello & Anne-Marie's former #1 Friends, and Khalid's Location featuring Jorja Smith & Wretch 32. Taking a huge jump into the Top 10 (and Top 20) is George Ezra's Paradise (23-6), a song which has grown on me immensely this past week. Other climbs into the Top 10 come from Mabel (14-9) and Ed Sheeran (12-10). Notable climbers outside the Top 10 include The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar's Pray For Me (22-13), Pink's Secrets (24-16), Noah Kahan & Julia Michaels' Hurt Someboy (26-21), The Wombats' Lemon To A Knife Fight (37-29), and 5 Seconds of Summer's Want You Back (40-35). Pray For Me is both The Weeknd & Kendrick's first Top 20 hit here, and Secrets gives Pink her third consecutive Top 20 hit after What About Us and Beautiful Trauma. Only two new releases enter the chart this week! At #17 is Blossoms' I Can't Stand It, the lead single of their upcoming second album following their self-titled LP. Blossoms was an album I really got into early last year so I am looking forward to what comes next, an I Can't Stand it is very similar in sound to their debut which is also great The second new entry is right at the bottom of the chart, with Sigala & Paloma Faith's Lullaby at #39. Dexton's Top 40 (13/03/2017) (Week 44)
A #1 running through my bloody veins! This week George Ezra's Paradise rises up to the top spot as predicted Another George Ezra track also enters lower down as I suddenly become a stan.. Holding on at #2 is Imagine Dragons' Next To Me and down two places is Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse's Katchi. Climbing up right into the Top 5 is The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar's Pray For Me (13-4), which is both artists first Top 5 hit here! Then another non-mover in Khalid's Location featuring Jorja Smith & Wretch 32 at #5. Outside the Top 5 there are two new entries to the Top 10, coming from Blossoms' lead single from their second album I Can't Stand It (17-8) and Pink's non-single Secrets (16-9). I Can't Stand It is Blossoms' second Top 10 hit on my chart after featuring on Chase & Status' This Moment last year which peaked at #6. And Secrets was expected to be the third official single from Pink's Beautiful Trauma but she has instead opted for Whatever You Want - expect that to chart here sometime soon! Other notable climbers this week are: Vance Joy's We're Going Home (23-13), Cash Cash's Jewel featuring Nikki Vianna (15-14), Niall Horan's On The Loose (20-17), Jorja Smith x Preditah's On My Mind (24-18), Bazzi's Mine (26-21), The Wombats' Lemon To A Knife Fight (29-22), 5 Seconds Of Summer's Want You Back (35-26), and Sigala & Paloma Faith's Lullaby (39-28). Moving on from last week's quietness, there are 7 new entries this week! Three of which actually come from former (and current) #1 artists! Khalid has found much success on my chart before and debuts high (sort of) at #20 with Love Lies, a collaboration with Normani - who becomes the third Fifth Harmony (ex)member to chart here! Officially proving that they are much better solo than together, for me anyway. RAYE is also back with Cigarette featuring Mabel & Stefflon Don at #29, and George Ezra's Pretty Shining People debuts at #32. Other new entries come from Lost Frequencies & Zonderling's Crazy (#32), Liam Gallagher's Paper Crown (#33), Paramore's Rose-Colored Boy (#39), and Post Malone's Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign (#40). Annoyingly Rose-Colored Boy is spelt the way it appears as the official name, not the... preferred... spelling  And on to the album chart. Dexton's Top 40 (20/03/2017) (Week 45)
Another steady week at the top for George Ezra, but with some heavy competition! A high debut for Yungen's Mind On It featuring Jess Glynne comes at #2 giving both artists their highest charting single here - following Bestie (#14) and These Days (#3). A non-mover at #3 is Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse's Katchi, whilst the rest of the Top 5 is completed by Khalid's Location featuring Jorja Smith & Wretch 32 (5-4), and Imagine Dragons' Next To Me (2-5). On the edge of the Top 5 is Blossoms' I Can't Stand It (8-6) which officially matches the bands previous peak with Chase & Status' This Moment, and also climbing within the Top 10 we have Pink's Secrets (9-7) which gives Pink her third Top 7 single. The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar's Pray For Me (4-8), and Kojo Funds & RAYE's Check (6-10) each fall four places and Cash Cash earns his first ever Top 10 hit here with Jewel featuring Nikki Vianna at #9. Lot's of songs are climbing this week including Khalid & Normani's Love Lies (13-20), Jorja Smith x Preditah's On My Mind (18-15), Bazzi's Mine (21-20), The Wombats' Lemon To A Knife Fight (22-21), Rudimental's These Days featuring Jess Glynne, Macklemore, & Dan Caplen (24-23), RAYE's Cigarette featuring Mabel & Stefflon Don (29-27), Liam Gallagher's Paper Crown (33-32), Paramore's Rose-Colored Boy (39-36), and Post Malone's Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign (40-39). Love Lies climbs closer to giving Khalid his 5th Top 10 hit, a feat only previously made by Justin Timberlake. Just six new entries enter the chart this week, although another six songs looking to enter next week would be in the 41-46 region (if my chart was that big ). The highest new entry is Yungen's Mind On It featuring Jess Glynne at #2, followed by Lousia A fantastic re-working of Louisa though after Best Behaviour flopped (and wasn't too great anyway). At #14 is Emma Blackery's long-awaited Dirt, which fully vibes Taylor Swift in all the best ways. Emma is a YouTuber who I've been following for a while now, she is currently vlogging away as she works on her upcoming album which makes for a very interesting (and hilarious) 20 minutes each week! Another new entry to the Top 20 is Banx & Ranx & Ella Eyre's Answerphone featuring Ynxg Bane at #18, which will be a hit here and officially I'm sure! Further down we have Taylor Swift's Delicate entering at #29, and MAX's Lights Down Low featuring gnash at #40. Lights Down Low is a song I've been sort-of listening to for a couple of months now, but I heard it on the radio on Friday and have been playing it a lot more since then Unlike the bore of last week, this week the album chart is somewhat exciting! About as exciting as an album chart can be, anyway. Not to anyone's surprise, Justin Timberlake further extends his chart record as he takes a 6th week at #1, beating high competition from Khalid (!) and Eminem. Khalid's American Teen was release about a year ago however I've only just really got into the album as a whole as I realise how much of a Khalid fan I've become! Aside from the amazing singles (which Young, Dumb & Broke was robbed of a chart placing here for some reason, my bad) the album also has some great album tracks to offer - I highly recommend this... and every other album here mind you. Eminem's Revival climbs back into the Top 5 after the single release of Nowhere Fast featuring Kehani, which should grace the singles chart next week also. The first ever re-entry into my album chart comes from - of course - Taylor Swift whose Reputation has never been worse at it enters back at #7. Then a new entry right at the bottom is Logic's Bobby Tarantino II mixtape at #10 - confirming that my album chart does allow mixtapes to chart although not soundtracks (since I only really listen to 2-4 songs from soundtracks so it doesn't make much sense . Dexton's Top 40 (27/03/2017) (Week 46)
This week saw the release of George Ezra's second studio album Staying At Tamara's, another album where Ezra sings about his time abroad although this time it's less obvious! Paradise remains at #1 and Ezra score's himself a rare luxury on my chart of holding on to both the singles & album chart #1's. He also goes one step further, securing himself the #2 position too with last year's comeback single Don't Matter Now finally charting here! I wasn't too keen on this last year, but listening through the album Don't Matter Now is clearly one (of many) highlights and has grown on me a lot! Whether it'll grow enough to overtake Paradise on top and join the elite club of Marshmello & Camila Cabello as two-time #1s - we'll see. Khalid scores yet another Top 5 hit with his Normani collaboration Love Lies (13-4), and Blossoms earn their first Top 5 hit with I Can't Stand It (6-5). George Ezra also gets another Top 10 hit with hopefully future single Shotgun at #6. Logic & Marshmello's Everyday is yet another Top 10 debut at #7, giving Logic his 2nd and Marshmello his 4th Top 10 single. Earning himself another Top 20 hit is Post Malone with Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign (39-14), almost outpeaking Post Malone's Rockstar featuruing 21 Savage which made it to #12 last year. Also climbing into the Top 20 is The Wombats' Lemon To A Knife Fight which is slowly but steadily creeping it's way up my chart, could Lemon climb any higher than the previous Lemon in my chart? N.E.R.D. & Rihanna's Lemon made it to #8 earlier this year, a Drake "remix" was also released recently although - unlike anywhere officially - Drake's name is not enough to give this song a boost back into the chart. George Ezra's name pops back up as Pretty Shining People shoots up to #19, meaning this week has given George his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Top 20 hit all in one week! Notable climbs this week come from Taylor Swift's Delicate (29-22), RAYE's Cigarette featuring Mabel & Stefflon Don (27-26), Liam Gallagher's Pape Crown (32-27), Paramore's Rose-Colored Boy (36-33), and MAX's Lights Down Low featuring gnash (40-38). Well none of them are too big to be fair, although I must say this week I've had a harder time sorting this chart out due to absolutely fked up things going on in my life right now . Normally listening to music and playing around with what I'm liking most (aka... a chart) is relaxing but life has been steadily getting more & more hectic these past fews weeks and now it's all blowing up...Years & Years' Sanctify, George Ezra's Hold My Girl, Eminem's Nowhere Fast featuring Kehlani, Kygo & Miguel's Remind Me To Forget, Shawn Mendes' In My Blood, and Panic! At The Disco's Say Amen (Saturday Night) all debut Top 40 this week at #21, #28, #34, #35, #37, and #40 respectively. Also close to entering (in the would-be 41-50 section) this week were Bad Wolves' Zombie, Maroon 5's Wait, Shawn Mendes' Lost In Japan, David Guetta & Sia's Flames, Keith Urban's Parallel Lines, Missy Higgins' Futon Couch, George Ezra's Saviour featuring First Aid Kit, Pink's Whatever You Want, Dua Lipa's Homesick, and Kodaline's Follow Your Fire. Some of these may enter next week, other's might miss out completely despite me enjoying them quite a bit Other songs have also missed out on my chart completely due to being a tad unlucky during a few weeks, usually being overshadowed by bigger releases and then sort of forgotten about in terms of charting here... Of course George Ezra is #1 with his 2nd studio album Staying At Tamara's, but a bigger surprise comes at #2 where Logic's Bobby Tarantino II mixtape climbs from #10 in what will most likely be the biggest climb within my album chart ever! I never realised how much I actually liked Logic as an artist, I've really been getting into this mixtape (as well as some of his older stuff) this past week - as well as Jon Bellion who I am extremely excited for his new single. Years and Years earn their first Top 10 hit with Sanctify (21-7), whilst Paramore and Post Malone are back with their 3rd and 2nd Top 10's respectively. Paramore's Rose-Colored Boy (33-9) is the third charting single from the bands album After Laughter following Hard Times (#2 peak) and Fake Happy (#5 peak). Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign is Post Malone's first solo Top 10 hit after Rockstar featuring 21 Savage 'only' made it to #12, and Lorde's Homemade Dynamite featuring SZA, Khalid, & Post Malone went Top 5. Dexton's Top 40 (10/04/2017) (Week 48)
Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa storm the chart this week, debuting with One Kiss at the top - dethroning George Ezra's Paradise which almost notched a record-tying 5th week at #1. Dua joins Camila Cabello & Marshmello as artists with more than one #1 on my chart, after New Rules topped the chart back in August. Panic! At The Disco's Say Amen (Saturday Night) climbs to #3, whilst Flight Facilities' Need You featuring NΟKA (2-4) and Khalid & Normani's Love Lies (3-5) complete the Top 5. Blossoms (5-6), Years & Years (7-7), Paramore (9-8), George Ezra [Don't Matter Now] (6-9), and The Killers fill out the rest of the Top 10. The Killers cover of the Elton John classic, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters enters at #10 giving the band their third Top 10 hit and sixth song to enter my chart (including two Christmas singles). The cover comes from the newly released Revamp: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin, which also boasts Elton covers by names such as Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, and Florence + The Machine. Notable climbers outside the Top 10 this week are: MAX's Lights Down Low featuring Gnash (22-11), Shawn Mendes' In My Blood (23-13), Taylor Swift's Delicate (16-15), Lauv's Chasing Fire (29-22), David Guetta & Sia's Flaes (39-27), Kodaline's Follow Your Fire (40-30), Kygo & Miguel's Remind Me To Forget (35-31), and Shawn Mendes' Lost In Japan (38-34). Lights Down Low is both MAX and Gnash's first Top 20 hit, as Lights Down Low grows on me profusely. In My Blood gives Shawn Mendes his second Top 20 hit whilst Taylor earns her third Top 15 single following ...Ready For It? (#8 peak) and End Game featuring Ed Sheeran & Future (#15 peak). Off the back of the release of the fourteenth studio album, Golden, Kylie Minogue enters the chart with her lead single Dancing at #12. Her album also makes an appearance in my chart, although is held off the top spot by the one and only George Ezra. The Wombats' Cheetah Tongue is also new to the Dexton chart party, debuting at #20 whilst their previous single, Lemon To A Knife Fight (13-14), is still Top 20! Talking about Ed Sheeran again, despite him not actually having a song in my chart right now, the Ed-co-penned Parallel Lines enters the chart at #40. Parallel Lines is Keith Urban's first entry to my chart, and effectively bookends this weeks chart with both the top and bottom songs both being new entries! Wildy different ones too As mentioned, Kylie's Golden enters my album chart at #2 behind George Ezra's behemoth Staying At Tamara's. Despite a few of his album tracks slipping down/out of my singles chart, George Ezra remains far ahead of the competition with hopes of surpassing the record for most weeks spent at #1. Kylie's Golden boasts singles such as Dancing (#12) and Stop Me From Falling (not charting) and also marks her slight move into a more country sound. It works well for Kylie, just as it did for Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus before her. The Wombats return to their #4 peak with Beautiful Poeple Will Ruin Your Life and push the aforementioned Justin's Man Of The Woods down to #5. Khalid's American dream of American Teen going to American one...-teen is abruptly cancelled as his debut album falls out of the Top 10. Who will top the album chart next week? Another #1 debut comes this week with Drake's Nice For What entering high at the top after probably being #41 last week Nice For What is my favourite Drake release in years tbh, way above One Dance and hence is this weeks #1! The official music video is also a solid 11/10 featuring a plethora of equally 11/10 women Unfortunately for Calvin & Dua, One Kiss falls (1-2) and continues Dua's trend of one-week-#1's after New Rules was dethroned almost immediately by Camila Cabello's Havana. George Ezra (2-3) and Panic! At The Disco (3-4) fall a place each, and Years & Years earn their first Top 5 hit with Sanctify (7-5). Blossoms spend a third non-consecutive week at #6 and despite peaking at just #5 have already entered the Top 20 YTD songs for my chart! Paramore, Flight Facilities, Khalid & Normani, and Shawn Mendes complete the Top 10!After spending 7 weeks in the chart, The Wombats have once again re-peaked as they climb up to #12 with Lemon To A Knife Fight - as well as their follow-up single Cheetah Tongue climbing to #18! Taylor Swift and Lauv also find new peaks within the Top 20 with Delicate (15-13) and Chasing Fire (22-15) climbing respectively. Ohter notable climbs come from Liam Gallagher, David Guetta & Sia, Shawn Mendes [Lost In Japan], Kodaline, Kygo & Miguel, and Keith Urban. Drake aside, 5 new entries debut in the chart this week from the likes of Virtual Self, Luke Million, Bebe Rexha, Sam Smith, and Client Liaison! Ghost Voices is a BJSC entry I kinda passed on, but has grown on me a lot this past week after stumbling upon it on YouTube Speaking of BJSC, Luke Million's Hypnotised featuring Last Dinosaurs is my entry for this month and debuts at #25. Bebe Rexha's 2 Souls on Fire featuring Quavo enters at #32 and is both Bebe and Quavo's first Top 40 entry this year! Bebe was last here with the #34-peaking Meant To Be featuring Florida Georgia Line, whilst Quavo scored a #12 hit on DJ Khaled's I'm The One! Sam Smith is new to my chart, whilst Logic grabs his third Top 40 single. Client Liason's World Of Our Love is a song I discovered whilst searching for BJSC potentials, but missed out to Luke Million George Ezra continues to dominate the album chart with Staying At Tamara's gaining a fourth consecutive week on top, but Luke Million's Come Together EP brings strong competition at #2! Come Together contains the amazing Hypnotised featuring Last Dinosaurs (#25) as well Alive featuring Fluir! Elsewhere the man of the woods is back into the Top 3 after a brief drop to #5, and Kylie's Golden falls clean out of the Top 5 (2-6). Not much else is really going on although Taylor's Reputation has left the chart for a second time. The past few days have been heartbreaking to say the least. Debuting at the top is probably the song that's affected me the most since Avicii's sad death over the weekend, Friend Of Mine featuring Vargas & Lagola. I don't want to stay on this topic too long, but I will say that Avicii has always had a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favouite artists. His comeback in August was incredibly anticipated by myself (amongst many, many other fans) and the fact that we were finally given a studio version of Without You was brilliant. It hurts that such an inspirational man has left us. Rest easy. ~ Avicii's Friend Of Mine featuring Vargas & Lagola enters at #1 giving Avicii his second #1 single here after Without You featuring Sandro Cavazzo spent 3 weeks at the top in August, with Ariana Grande's No Tears Left To Cry entering at #2 who is actually new to the chart! This marks the third week at a row where a new single has debuted at the top! Drake, Calvin & Dua, and George Ezra each fall a fall a place to complete the Top 5. Climbing for a 5th consecutive week, Shawn Mendes' finds yet another alltime peak with In My Blood (10-6), whilst Lauv returns to the Top 10 for the first time this year with Chasing Fire up to #9! Anne-Marie is also returning to the Top 10 with her latest single 2002 at #10. Her last single, Friends with Marshmello, reached #1 - will 2002 follow suit? Avicii's Friend Of Mine featuring Vargas & Lagola (1-1) and Ariana Grande's No Tears Left To Cry (2-2) tighten their hold on the Top 2 this week, whilst Shawn Mendes earns his first Top 5 hit with In My Blood (6-3) climbing for a 6th consecutive week. Drake's Nice For What (3-4) and George Ezra's Paradise (5-5) complete the Top 5 giving Paradise a total of 8 weeks within the Top 5. Justin Timberlake's Filthy, Jax Jones' Breathe featuring Ina Wroldsen, Craig David's I Know You featuring Bastille, Avicii's Without You featuring Sandro Cavazza, and Dua Lipa's New Rules are the only other songs to have spent 8 weeks or more in the Top 5. Dua is lucky enough to have spent 9 weeks in the Top 5, although only 1 week was at #1! Anne-Marie, Blossoms, and The Wombats all climb up the Top 10 this week although Blossoms are the only ones not getting new peaks - instead boosted back into the Top 10 by their album release on Friday. Cheetah Tongue becomes The Wombats' highest peaking single at #9. Western Australia's own Palais debuts at #38 with Instant Crush featuring Your Girl Pho! I'll actually be meeting this guy later this week for a tour around a studio (psst he's called Jeremy) and I'm liking his music. Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenezer is at #39.For the second week in a row my album chart Top 3 are all new entries! Blossoms' Cool Like You tops the chart boasting lead single I Can't Stand It (#5 peak in my singles chart). Anne-Marie misses out on a #1 album due to the week she released, any other week she would've gone in at #1 but unfortunately for her Blossoms are too big of a force to beat Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys makes an appearance at #3. I was a bit disappointed with B&B, it's nice enough but nothing aside from the singles really stood out. Slaying At Tamara's holds steady at #4 followed by two out of three Avicii albums/EPs. Dexton's Top 40 (08/05/2017) (Week 52)
Huzzah! Ariana finally climbs to #1 after being stuck behind Avicii for two weeks, giving her her first chart topper here with No Tears Left To Cry. Avicii's Friend Of Mine featuring Vargas & Lagola falls to #2 with strong competition from Billie Eilish & Khalid's lovely which debuts at #3. Whilst this is Billie's first entry in my chart, Khalid is quite the regular here with Lovely giving him his 6th consecutive Top 5 hit. Blossoms claim their highest charting song to date as the very long-titled There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) shoots up to #4 from #13, leap frogging their previous single I Can't Stand It (8-14). Shawn Mendes' In My Blood spends a second week in the Top 5 (3-5). George Erza's Paradise (5-8) falls out of the Top 5 for the first time in 8 weeks, which funnily enough is the same amount of time Justin Timberlake's Filthy spent in the Top 5 before also falling to #8. Two huge songs of the year for me both looking at a high end-of-year placing, but who will come out on top in 7 months time? Emma Blackery released another single on Friday titled Agenda, much in the same vein as Dirt but inherently better I think and an actual bop. Her Reputation-esque era has been great so far and Agenda is probably my favourite release from her already, bring on the album Amy Shark also earns her first Top 10 hit with I Said Hi (37-10) which coincidentally happens to be exactly 1 year after Adore peaked at #13 here (see the retro top 10 below).Other notable climbers this week are Kendick Lamar's Love featuring Zacari (19-12), Cash Cash's Finest Hour featuring Abir (27-17), George Ezra's Shotgun (28-21), Palais' Instant Crush featuring Your Girl Pho (38-27), Blossoms' Cool Like You (38-29), and Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenzer (39-33). Finest Hour is Cash Cash's 3rd consecutive Top 20 hit, after All My Love featuring Conor Maynard and Jewel featuring Nikki Vianna peaked at #15 and #9 respectively. A total of 9 (!) new entries make an appearance in the chart this week including Billie Eilish & Khalid and Emma Blackery in the Top 10. Robinson's Nothing to Regret (#19), Dennis Lloyd's Nevermind (#31), Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (#35), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Genius (#36), Liam Payne & J Balvin's Familiar (#37), Childish Gambino's This Is America (#39), and Post Malone's Spoil My Night featuring Swae Lee (#40) make up the almost all-star cast of new entries this week. Cardi B has been very hit & miss for me - I thought I'd warm to her over time but only the odd song from her I find myself going back to. I Like It also gives J Balvin his first hit here whilst also grabbing his second as his Liam Payne collaboration Familiar debuts in the same week! Collaborations are abundant this week but none are quite like the joint project of Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo who have released their first single Genius under the alias/project name 'LSD'. The name itself isn't the most creative especially compared to Diplo's other projects but Genius is... genius and should definitely climb here. Childish Gambino's big comeback soon-to-be hit This Is America came equipped with a brilliant music video to suit the song like not many other music videos do. It's no Redbone, at least not yet, but it's definitely something I recommend to anyone out there. Over in the album chart we have an entirely stagnant Top 5 although for good reason as I'm enjoying everything here a lot. Blossoms' Cool Like You remains at #1 as the British band quickly become one of my favourite modern-day bands behind the likes of Bastille, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Paramore, and a handful of others I stan. Bastille cemented themselves for me with Wild World and with a new single coming very very very soon (but not soon enough) they will be in for a sucessful era on my chart. Last year their Green Day cover of Basket Case peaked at #10, whilst the single release of Glory made it to #15 - if not for me overplaying it to death on the album's release it could've been higher to be fair. They also achieved their first #1 here late last year on Craig David's I Know You - which also spent 8 weeks in the Top 5 to jump back a few paragraphs Although with a chart run sliced in half by Near Years Craig David won't be as high on my end of year as George or Justin!Thanks for reading! Earning their second #1, Bastille return to the chart with the lead single Quarter Past Midnight from their upcoming third album debuting at the top. The band previously made it to #1 on Craig David's I Know You late last year and now join the exclusive club of artists with more than one #1 here! Unlucky news for Ariana Grande's No Tears Left To Cry (1-2) though as her run at the top is cut short. Blossoms' There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) (4-3), Avicii's Friend Of Mine featuring Vargas & Lagola (2-4), and Billie Eilish & Khalid's Lovely (3-5) close the Top 5. Kendrick Lamar's Love featuring Zacari climbs into the Top 10 giving Kendrick his second Top 10 hit after his collaboration Pray For Me with The Weeknd, whilst George Ezra's Shotgun climbs back into the Top 10 after debuting at #6 8 weeks ago. Notable climbers this week are Robinson's Nothing To Regret (19-15), Liam Payne & J Balvin's Familiar (37-19), Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (35-21), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Genius (36-24), Client Liaison's World Of Our Love (26-25), Post Malone's Spoil My Night featuring Swae Lee (40-26), and Dennis Lloyd's Nevermind (31-30). Cardi B is warming on me more and more each week, although with the release of Rita Ora's Girls featuring Charli XCX, Bebe Rexha, & Cardi B she continues her ratio of hit & miss with me. Despite the allstar cast it's a fairly average song that seems to have pissed off about half of the people in the world and probably won't chart here New entries aside from Bastille come from RAYE's Crew featuring Kojo Funds & RAY BLK (#33), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Audio (#38), and Troye Sivan's Bloom (#39). RAYE's last single Cigarette featuring Mabel & Stefflon Don only made it to #26 here although Check with Kojo Funds was a Top 3 hit and Decline featuring Mr Eazi made it to #1. Will Crew outpeak the last singles? Ray BLK is also a returning artist after featuring on Gorillaz's The Apprentice featuring Rag'n'Bone Man, Zebra Katz & of course RAY BLK which charted here exactly a year ago (see the below Retro Chart) and then the #17 peaking single Doing Me. At first I preferred Audio to Genius of the LSD project's releases but I've found myself going back to Genius much more and reminds me of an edgier Elastic Heart Troye Sivan makes his debut appearance on the chart with Bloom.Over in the album chart, Blossoms' continue their run at the top with their second album Cool Like You. Post Malone reaches a new peak though as Beerbongs & Bentleys climbs to #2 after 2 weeks at #3 followed closely by George Ezra's Staying At Tamara's (4-3). RAYE's EP Side Tape debuts at #4 which features Decline, Cigarette, and Crew. Although missing the Top 3 alltogether, RAYE's EP wasn't half as disappointing as Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino - their first album in 5 years. Wowza look at this a new #1 again! Five #1s in 5 weeks, probably a chart record for me, with Clean Bandit claiming their second chart topping hit as Solo featuring Demi Lovato climbs to the top. Solo is Demi's third Top 10 single following Jax Jones' Instruction (#6) and Luis Fonsi's Echame La Culpa (#7). This is also Clean Bandit's third Top 10 single, including former #1 Disconnect and I Miss You (#4). A big thanks to his latest album, Shawn Mendes re-enters at #3 with Lost In Japan - there are four more Shawn Mendes song in my Top 40 this week too! George Ezra's Shotgun (1-2) and Bastille's Quarter Past Midnight (2-4) fill out the Top 5 along with a new entry from grandson with Thoughts and Prayers (thank you BJSC )Shawn Mendes' Youth featuring Khalid (29-6) is Khalid's seventh Top 10 hit and is the latest entry in Khalid's seemingly constant presence in my chart ever since featuring on Marshmello's Silence. With a Martin Garrix collaboration on the horizon too, Khalid isn't going anywhere (nor should he) Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Genius climbs into the Top 10 (11-7), as does Selena Gomez's Back To You (20-10). Shawn Mendes is everywhere this week with In My Blood rebounding (18-11), Where Were You In The Morning? climbing (39-16), and Nervous debuting at #34. His new album far exceeded my expectations and his new mature sound is so much better than his previosu style I think. His album enters at #1 in the album chart. Dexton's Top 40 (05/06/2018) (Week 56)
Clean Bandit extend their run at the top this week, as Solo featuring Demi Lovato brings up the bands total weeks at #1 to 4 (following Disconnect's 2-week run last year). George Ezra's Shotgun (2-2) also spends another week holding it's place. The rest of the Top 5 is all new though as Selena Gomez's Back To You (10-3) takes another huge leap, this song is from the soundtrack to 13 Reasons Why and as far as I am aware is the highest charting soundtrakc single to date on my chart. Friday saw the release of two new singles from one of my favourite bands, Gorillaz, who debut at #4 with Humility featuring George Benson. Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo round out the Top 5 with Genius (7-5) which gives Sia her third Top 5 hit. Panic! At The Disco continue their run of chart hits debuting low and climbing high in their second week as High Hopes (31-6) gives them their second consecutive Top 10 hit. Bastille's Quarter Past Midnight (4-7), grandson's Thoughts and Prayers (5-8), and Shawn Mendes' Lost In Japan (3-9) take tumbles to make way for the climbers. Maroon 5 released a single version of Girls Like You featuring Cardi B (#10) on the weekend and, aside from Humilty, has been my most played song since Friday. Girls Like You gives Maroon 5 their second Top 10 hit and Cardi B her first. Notable climbers this week are Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenezer (25-12), Liam Payne & J Balvin's Familiar (14-13), Years & Years' If You're Over Me (29-16), Post Malone's Better Now (23-17), Jason Mraz's Have It All (21-18), The Wombats' Turn (28-22), 5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood (36-23), M-22's First Time featuring Medina (30-26), Ivy Adara's Currency (33-28), and King Princess' 1950 (40-33). Inhale has been on my mind for a while now but is really starting to pick up steam, it was less instant than last single Real Life with Gorgon City but has soon grown on me. Youngblood already out-peaks 5 Seconds to Summer's previous single Want You Back (#26) and is looking very likely to climb into the Top 20 next week! Better Now is Post Malone's fourth Top 20 hit, again already out-peaking his previous entry in my chart Spoil My Night featuring Swae Lee which dropped out from it's peak of #22 not long ago. A handful of new entries show up near the bottom of the Top 40 although not at all new faces. Vance Joy returns with his latest single Saturday Sun at #35, will he be able to match We're Going Home's peak of #13 anytime soon? This week's commentary has been all about re-peaking and out-peaking, so fittingly Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo re-enter the chart and also re-peak with Audio at #37 Snow Patrol finally make their Top 40 debut here... but not with Don't Give In which has been floating around just outside the chart for some time. Empress is the band's 4th single from latest album Wildness, which I have been a bit late to listen to, and makes an appearance in the album chart Empress is at #38 and is thus far Snow Patrol's highest charting single. Lastly but certainly not... least-ly (?) is Hayden James' newest release Just Friends featuring Boy Matthews. He last charted here with NUMB featuring GRAACE after the song showed up in Triple J's Hottest 100 earlier this year in January. Just Friends features the uncredited vocalist from Duke Dumont's f***ing banger Ocean Drive, Boy Matthews (who sounds just as incredible on this) and enters at #39.All the way over here in the album chart we have a few interesting new entries. Actually it's only two new entries, with of course Snow Patrol's Wildness at #1 and less obvious is the charting of Lauv's album/playlist/vinyl i met you when i was 18 at #2! What would have otherwise been a surefire #1 almost any other week, Lauv unfortunately misses out on the top spot. Lauv's playlist features the #1 hit I Like Me Better, as well as Easy Love (#4), Paris In The Rain (#13), and Chasing Fire (#9). Other highlights on the album are Paranoid, Comfortable, and Getting Over You (although the R3hab remix of Getting Over You is better tbh). Thanks for coming! Dexton's Top 40 (12/06/2018) (Week 57)
High Hopes is rising high! Panic! At The Disco earn their first #1 here in anticipation for their upcoming album and are joined by Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B in climbing into the Top 5. George Ezra's monopoly at #2 continues for a third consecutive week, meaning Clean Bandit's Solo featuring Demi Lovato is down to #3. Selena Gomez falls gracefully (3-5) after last weeks peak with Back To You. Selena's previous hit, Wolves with Marshmello, managed 7 weeks within the Top 5 but sadly missed out on #1. Back To You is not looking likely to give her her first #1 on my chart! Shake-up within the Top 10 as Duke Dumont, Years & Years, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Post Malone all grab another Top 10 hit for themselves. Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenezer (12-6) launches up the chart becoming his second entry this high in the chart after Real Life featuring NAATIONS made it to #5 last year. Years & Years are also claiming their second Top 10 with If You're Over Me (16-8). 5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood (23-9) becomes the bands highest charting single here, whereas Better Now (17-10) is Post Malone's third Top 10 hit and second to peak at #10 following Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign. Khalid just can't stay away from my chart... Giving the American Teen his 10th Top 20 hit and thus far a 100% hit rate in terms of charting songs (as in, every song that's charted of Khalid's in my Top 40 has gone Top 20) is the H.E.R. collaboration This Way from the Superfly soundtrack. This Way debuts at #17. Funnily enough, he will likely be earning yet another chart entry next week as his long-awaited Martin Garrix collab is to be released this Friday. Interestingly if he does get another chart entry next week, he will overtake Justin Timberlake as the artist with the most singles to have gone Top 40 on the chart! Other new entries come from Tove Lo with bitches featuring Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant, & ALMA (#20), Niall Horan & Maren Morris with Seeing Blind (#32), and Vic Mensa & Marshmello with Reverse featuring G-Eazy (#35). It's a fairly quiet chart week, yep. Tove Lo, Charli XCX, and ALMA previously made it to #19 on Charli's Out Of My Head, will bitches outpeak the supergroup's previous song? Maybe. I mean, it could happen. Bitches is nice enough and is far better than the other girl power collaboration that's out there right now Notable climbers are the former Australian X-Factor contestant Ivy Adara who's Currency (28-19) buys her her first Top 20 hit, Vance Joy's Saturday Sun (35-28) which is ironically charting in the cold sun-less Winter, Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Audio (37-29) which is making [sound]waves on it's second run in my chart, and finally Hayden Jame's Just Friends featuring Boy Matthews (39-33) which... has outpeaked his previous single already. niceThe album chart continues to be a mildly interesting aspect of my weekly chart with Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentley's finally making it to the #1 position after 7 weeks of non-#1-ness. Unfortuntely for Jorja Smith this Post Malone resurgence comes on her album release week and her debut album Lost & Found is denied the #1, entering at #2. Busy busy busy, but not at #1 as Panic! At The Disco continue their hold on the top for a 2nd week with High Hopes. Ariana Grande is back in the Top 10 not long since former-#1 No Tears Left To Cry bowed out, featuring on Troye Sivan's latest single Dance To This which debuts at #2. Ariana also enters the chart on yet another feature this week, but is lower down the chart. At Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B (4-3) and Clean Bandit's Solo featuring Demi Lovato (3-4) switch around neatly but poor George Ezra's Shotgun is clinging on to the Top 5. Better Now (10-7) becomes Post Malone's highest charting solo single, outpeaking his previous Top 10 Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign. Years & Years' If You're Over Me (8-8) and 5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood (9-9) enjoy another week Top 10, the latter of which is the title track of the bands latest album which debuts in my album chart during a particularly busy week. Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenezer (6-10) also spends another week in the Top 10. Notable climbers this week include Khalid & H.E.R.'s This Way (17-11), Vance Joy's Saturday Sun (28-13), Ivy Adara's Currency (19-15), Niall Horan & Maren Morris' Seeing Blind (32-17), Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (27-18), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Audio (29-19), Hayden James' Just Friends featuring Boy Matthews (33-25), and Vic Mensa & Marshmello's Reverse featuring G-Eazy (35-33). Saturday Sun becomes Vance Joy's 3rd consecutive Top 20 hit and 2nd to peak at #13, will Saturday Sun be able to outshine We're Going Home? Ivy Adara continues the string of Australian Top 20 songs with Currency rising for yet another week, and Sia also adds to the Aussie climbers earning another Top 20 hit for herself with Audio. Seeing Blind matches the peak of his previous single On The Loose, and also gives Maren Morris her first and highest charting song here. Cardi B experiences a bit of a resurgence and re-enters the Top 20 - watch this space 9 new songs enter the chart this week, which is just the 6th time this year this has happened! Troye earns his highest charting single with Dance To This featuring Ariana Grande at #2 (incredibly helped by the feature, not gonna lie). Kygo & Imagine Dragons' Born To Be Yours (#20) is a welcome return to the chart for both artists. Jorja Smith's Blue Lights (#21) enters on the back of her debut album Lost & Found, Nicki Minaj's Bed featuring Ariana Grande (#22) is Nicki's first solo entry here after the crappy stuff she's releases thus far in 2018, and Juice WRLD's Lucid Dreams (#23) is one of the few new entries this week from a previously unseen artist! Another batch of new entries shows up at the bottom of the chart. Martin Garrix's Ocean featuring Khalid (#37) is surprisingly Martin Garrix's first ever entry in my chart - There For You missed out last year due to this only being a Top 20 back then. Big news came this weekened when Beyonce & Jay-Z launched their first joint album Everything Is Love at the end of an On The Run II show. The album shows up in the album chart, and lead single Apeshit (featuring the uncredited adlibs of Quavo and Offset, and co-produced by Pharrel) enters a #38. Sigala, Fuse ODG, & Sean Paul's Feels Like Home featuring Kent Jones (#39) is more football-sounding than most of the football-related singles releases for the World Cup this year... but the fact it's not related to the World Cup makes me like it even more The Rubens make their chart debut (strange) with Never Ever featuring Sarah Aarons at #40. Sarah Aarons previously made the chart on Peking Duck's Fire, but may be more familiar as "Paige IV" from L D R U's Keeping Score.We have the album chart opening up with Beyonce & Jay-Z taking the top spot with Everything Is Love. 5 Seconds of Summer AND Lily Allen also debut Top 3, giving the top end of the chart a bit of a cleanout. Both Youngblood and No Shame would be #1s in any other week, but poor timing for them Although, Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys didn't peak at #1 until it's 6th week on the chart - so who knows how they might grow on me. George Ezra leaves the Top 5 for the first time since Staying At Tamara's release, but more interesting perhaps is how Justin Timberlake's Man Of The Woods (9-10) is now inches from leaving! At just 19 weeks on the chart though, JT is far from beating The Killers' record for most weeks spent inthe album chart, as some may remember Wonderful Wonderful spent 26 weeks here with 17 of those in the Top 5. Panic! At The Disco become the first artist since George Ezra to spend over two weeks at #1, with High Hopes at the top for a third week boosted slightly by Pray For The Wicked's album release (although theres also not a whole lot of competition for #1 right now). Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B (3-2) climbs for a fourht consecutive week, whilst 5 Seconds Of Summer earn their first ever Top 5 hit with Youngblood (9-5). Dexton's Top 40 (10/07/2018) (Week 61)
A non-Panic! #1 this week! Blonde earns their first #1 hit here and first ever charting single surprisingly with Me, Myself & I featuring Bryn Christopher entering right at the top of the chart. Bryn may be recognised as the vocalist from Sigala's Sweet Lovin' which is 3 years old this year! British singer Ella Mai released a remix of her breaththrough single Boo'd Up last week featuring Nicki Minaj & Quavo, which debuts here at #2. Boo'd Up almost entered the chart a few weeks ago and has now given all three artists involved their highest charting single to date. Boo'd Up charts here both as this official remix version and the original, which is also gaining listens (a similar situation to Khalid's Location which reached #2 a few months ago thanks a remix featuring Jorja Smith & Wretch 32). Panic! At The Disco's Hey Look Ma, I Made It (1-3) and High Hopes (2-4), as well as Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B (3-5) all slip a few places to make room for the new entries. Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (8-7) spends another week in the Top 10, and I realise I've been listing the features the wrong way around all this time It's too late to change now (not that it really matters) but a funny observation. I Like It is helped by the newly released Dillon Francis Remix which, whilst does not have a patch on the original, is nice enough to help it's original out. Cardi B joins George Ezra as one of the most surprisingly chart presences of the year so far although she is yet to reach the #1 position. Elsewhere Jonas Blue earns his first Top 10 hit with Rise featuring Jack & Jack rising to #10, just beating Cheat Codes & Little Mix's Only You (15-11). Only You gives Cheat Codes their second #11-peaking song after their joint remix with Cade of Maggie Lindemann's Pretty Girl. Will Only You give them all another Top 10 hit next week?Other exciting new entries in the chart include Tiλsto & Dzeko's Jackie Chan featuring Preme & Post Malone (#22), Justin Timberlake's SoulMate (#25), and MNEK's Colour featuring Hailee Steinfeld (#39). Jackie Chan is the first chart appearance for any of their artists bar Post Malone, who grabs his 5th Top 30 hit. SoulMate is a non-album single released by JT and has a nice relaxing summery vibe to it, although doesn't quite match the heights of his Man Of The Woods album (#9). MNEK and Hailee Steinfeld both make their second chart appearance in history: MNEK featured on Stormzy's Blinded By Your Grace, Pt.2 which made it to #4 last year, and Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso's Let Me Go featuring Florida Georgia Line & Watt which funnily enough also peaked at #4 In an exciting turn of events there are also two re-entries! Pink's Whatever You Want previously dropped out of the chart after peaking at just #33, but re-enters this week at #20. Pink is currently touring Australia so radio has been hammering a lot of her releases, include this which has grown on me a lot thus giving Pink her 4th consecutive Top 20 hit. Taylor Swift is also back although hasn't quite re-peaked, with Delicate back in at #26 boosted hugely by the Seeb Remix which has only just hit me. I also heard the original version on the radio last weekend whilst driving my sisters car which helped in getting me back into it. I don't listen to radio all that often, but when I do, it shows in my chart Who is climbing this week, you ask? Panic! edge closer to having three songs in the Top 10 at once with King Of The Clouds (17-14), whilst Sigala, Fuse ODG, & Sean Paul enter the Top 20 with Feels Like Home featuring Kent Jones (23-16). Sean Paul is in the Top 20 for the first time since featuring on Enrique Iglesias' Subeme Le Radio with Matt Terry which peaked at #4 and also comes close to winning the award for most-forgettable Top 10 hit of 2017. Sigala grabs his second Top 20 hit after his Ella Eyre collaboration Came Here For Love spent two weeks at #7 this time last year. Nicki Minaj's Bed featuring Ariana Grande (21-19) gives Ariana her 5th Top 20 single and Nicki her 4th, with Nicki's 3rd only just being earned this week of course on Ella Mai's Boo'd Up. Hopping over to the album chart we see a bit of symmetry with two re-entries here too, one being Paramore's After Laughter at #5 and then Pink's Beautiful Trauma at #6. Panic! At The Disco hold on (very) strong to their #1 spot at Pray For The Wicked spends a third week there, blocking yet another new album from #1! Years & Years unfortunately miss out on their first #1 album for now as Palo Santo enters at #2, supported by the hit singles Sanctify, If You're Over Me, and All For You. Gorillaz are back in the album chart with their latest album The Now Now, follow-up to last years Humanz an lead by Humility which debuted at #4 here. I'm less impressed with The Now Now than I was Humanz although it's a nice enough album to warrant a listen. Humilty is an obvious highlight although Hollywood and Idaho are good too.
