BuzzJack Music Forum _ Rihanna _ "ANTI" // 8th Album

Posted by: Ryan. Aug 8 2013, 07:32 PM

I thought I might as well open this new thread as we know Rihanna has been possibly working on new tracks such as the song Nicky Romero has been working on which is confirmed below. Also, we now possibly have confirmation that Rihanna's 8th studio album is scheduled for release this autumn, most likely in November.

According to MTV.it: (translated by Google)

QUOTE
Riri is planning to release a new album later this year. The new material will be worked in the next few weeks and will probably be materialized in November in the eighth disc of her career (!).

http://news.mtv.it/musica/rihanna-nuovo-album-in-arrivo-a-novembre-2013/
Furthermore, here is confirmation on MTV.com that Nicky Romero has been working on a follow-up to 'Right Now' which he co-produced with David Guetta:

QUOTE
MTV News caught up with Nicky Romero at the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium, where he informed us that his professional relationship with Rihanna is far from over. "We actually produced the record called 'Right Now' on her album Unapologetic. So I made that one together with David Guetta and now we're working on a follow-up."

The production on the track will be "out of the box," he told us, adding quickly with a smile, "In a smooth way."

Lets hope she gets out more than two successful singles this time! Her lead singles are usually always killer so I anticipate this greatly.

Posted by: *Tim Aug 8 2013, 07:36 PM

I hope she flops* so she can finally take a freakin' break! Releasing an album every year isn't what she should be doing especially when the material is getting worse. Loud>>>Talk That Talk>>>>>>>Unapolegetic

*Not really of course but there's gotta be soemthing to stop this woman from releasing albums right?!

Posted by: Silver Rocket Aug 8 2013, 07:44 PM

The last era really was the pits, I really hope for better this time.

Posted by: Calum Sandé Aug 8 2013, 08:31 PM

I really hope she can find a way to redeem herself with this album (obviously NOT going to happen), because the last two albums have been an utter mess. Only really about 3 highlights on each (more-so Unapologetic which had the fantastic What Now, Lost in Paradise and Love Without Tragedy). She really needs to take time out after this album and come back in a few years with a Greatest Hits, and songs up to the standard of the Loud era. sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm Aug 8 2013, 08:38 PM

There was nothing wrong with Talk That Talk and Unapologetic, it's just unfortunate that she's Rihanna and she had SO much to live up to with the perfect run of Good Girl Gone Bad/Rated R/Loud, which only had about 6 or 7 below average tracks (if that!) between them for me, ultimately they fell flat. Unapologetic is a lot better than Talk That Talk overall for me, Stay, Diamonds, Lost In Paradise, Pour It Up and Love Without Tragedy are amazing but TTT only really has We Found Love and Where Have You Been as huge highlights.

But he needs a proper Only Girl/We Found Love style dance smash this time around, Right Now just wasn't good enough and that's why they didn't bother with it as the lead single. Diamonds was flawless but I wouldn't want her to make a habit of that style of song as lead singles.

So there obviously was something wrong with it then...?

I worded it wrong, what I meant that it wouldn't get SO much hate if it wasn't by an artist like her with such highly acclaimed albums. It's a bit like Sweet 7 by Sugababes sort of, that would be held in a higher regard than it was if it was by a more 'faceless' girlband like Girls Can't Catch or Parade.

Aside from the ones I mentioned and two or three below average songs, the others are largely on the same level of 7.5/8 out of 10. Same with Unapologetic really.

Posted by: SceneofSIXCrimes Aug 8 2013, 10:57 PM

I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand any potential Rihanna single is welcome but on the other, it NEEDS to be FAR better than Unapologetic. That was the first album by Rihanna I haven't bought since her debut. 'Pour It Up' aside, it was just dull. Even 'Diamonds' and 'Stay' got boring - I didn't even purchase 'Stay'.

Rihanna needs to seriously think about what her next album needs to be. I don't want a Loud Part 2 because we already have that album but at the same time I don't want an album from her that is even worse than her last. I'd love Rihana to explore Afrobeat more on album 8 but I don't think it's particularly popular in the US.

I'll never say no to a 'Man Down' sequel though. heart.gif

Posted by: Calum Sandé Aug 8 2013, 11:16 PM

When did she release Loud Part 2, exactly? heehee.gif

Like you though, I'm definitely up to another song similar to Man Down. One of the highlights from Loud. <3

Posted by: Silver Rocket Aug 9 2013, 11:27 AM

I'd really like something like Rated R. I mean, I know it wasn't her biggest success but something you can actually tell she put effort in herself would be nice.

Posted by: ~ * G R I F F * ~ Aug 9 2013, 11:34 AM

No, she goes too much into the Rated R direction already but just makes the songs more mainstream. I would like another Good Girl Gone Bad, this doesn't feel like the year to put out another Loud.

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 9 2013, 12:03 PM

YES! Working with Nicky Romero, on his own <3 Hopefully it'll be as killer as I'm anticipating! Which album was meant to be 'Loud' "Part 2", Scene? laugh.gif 'Talk That Talk' was far too urban/not as radio friendly and 'Unapologetic', well...

Posted by: *Tim Aug 9 2013, 01:41 PM

I think he meant we already have Loud, so he doesn't want a pt2

Posted by: Acoustic Aug 9 2013, 02:16 PM

I think Unapologetic was a much stronger album than TTT.

I always love some new Riri.

Posted by: THEO. Aug 9 2013, 03:36 PM

I actually am looking forward to another album from Rihanna, with the underperformance of "Pour It Up" and "Right Now", it feels like we've actually had some sort of break from her this time. The lead single is bound to premičre in September and I'm hoping for an upbeat comeback single!

Posted by: SceneofSIXCrimes Aug 9 2013, 04:23 PM

Yeah I meant we already have Loud so there isn't much need for a part 2 album. The great thing about the likes of Good Girl Gone Bad, Rated R, Loud and Talk That Talk (I liked that album tongue.gif) is that they all sounded fresh and original when compared to Rihanna's back catalogue. She's never gone back to a sound which is why I think she's remained really popular. I know Christina tried to keep reinventing herself but she was too drastic and spent 4 years for each reinvention. laugh.gif A real Afrobeat/Caribbean-influenced album would be amazing.

Posted by: Thermometer Aug 9 2013, 05:45 PM

A Rihanna feat. Nicky Romero lead single would be amazing wub.gif I never really got into Right Now, but obviously as that flopped they're not going to make Right Now part 2 as her new single.

Posted by: SceneofSIXCrimes Aug 9 2013, 06:05 PM

Yeah I'm not really keen on the NR collab tbh. But then I'm only basing my opinion on 'I Could Be The One' and 'Right Now'. At least the flopdom of 'Right Now' can motivate them both to create something that isn't too generic.

Posted by: d__ Aug 10 2013, 08:56 AM

It's a bit late for a Rihanna album campaign... doesn't she normally have the lead single out by the first week of August?

Posted by: SceneofSIXCrimes Aug 10 2013, 10:14 AM

Normally mid-September I think. It comes around really unexpectedly (especially in the last three years).

Posted by: Danny Aug 12 2013, 02:26 AM

Apparently, she ISN'T releasing anything this year.

Lee Thompson ‏@leethommo 10 Aug
So, Xmas Album Watch Update. That Robbie 'Swing' album's coming, along with Killers Gt Hits, something a bit special from Queen & no Rihanna

(This guy seems pretty reliable too, he called Katy Perry releasing in October months ago.)

Posted by: SceneofSIXCrimes Aug 12 2013, 11:19 AM

ohmy.gif

Tbh with Beyonce coming back, I wouldn't mind if Rihanna took another year out. She needs to really bring the goods next album otherwise she could start to decline in popularity.

Posted by: Silver Rocket Aug 12 2013, 12:10 PM

Realistically though, all she really does is turn up and sing the songs given to her. I don't understand why it has to be as bad as it's been for the last two albums when she surely must have the best songwriters and producers in the world eager to give their songs to her?

Posted by: Jack Aug 12 2013, 01:14 PM

Wow, those other albums being released sound THRILLING.

Posted by: Calum Sandé Aug 12 2013, 04:34 PM

If it's true she's not releasing this year, then cheer.gif

Posted by: d__ Aug 12 2013, 08:16 PM

Of course she's dropping an album later this year. It's not like she's actually done any work this year, and I don't consider her tour performances... work.

Posted by: Casey__ Aug 12 2013, 10:22 PM

I loved 'Unapologetic' tbh! The reason I love Rihanna is that she really tries to push out into different genres and styles. I mean 'Unapologetic', minus a few songs really wasn't THAT mainstream / pop at all. Certainly not the album you'd expect one of the biggest "popstars" to release. It was a risky album, but it suited her perfectly imo. I don't know what people expect from Rihanna, but if you're looking for something as pop as 'Loud' was, I think you're better off waiting for Katy Perry or Lady Gaga's album. (This is not to say I wouldn't be happy with another pop album from her, but Unapologetic gets too much hate).

EXCITED FOR A NEW ALBUM THOUGH. She hasn't really been around (musically) since like February, so she's been away for, in Rihanna terms, a LIFETIME.

Actually agreed, RnBanna seems like she'd fit right in with the current music climate, while still being somewhat ahead of the pack and aiding in bringing the sound back into the charts. I think it's definitely time Rihanna went back to her ~roots~ for a bit.

Posted by: SceneofSIXCrimes Aug 14 2013, 10:23 PM

A song similar in sound to 'Umbrella' would be extremely welcome but obviously not just a rehash. I don't think she's worked with Tricky since.

Not sure if this rumour has been developed but this could easily be due to A$AP Rocky featuring on a single mix of 'What Now' or perhaps Rihanna featuring on one of his tracks. I do hope there is no album this year and I definitely echo that another Good Girl Gone Bad sounding album would be great; definitely her best work.

Posted by: slowdown73 Sep 25 2013, 06:29 PM

Good girl gone bad is certainly her most consistent album for me and its probably the one which carried most hits. Her current album has only spawned two hits in the UK and seems to have died to death but problem is it only included 3 or 4 good songs. I hope she takes a bit more time with the next album instead of rushing another out.

Posted by: Ashley Dec 9 2013, 09:13 PM

Apparently Shakira's first single is going to be featuring Rihanna.

Joseph Kahn confirmed he shot Shakira's video but lots of people saying Rihanna was there to.

I am very excited to see what she comes up with, although for some reason I think she is sadly due a flop. I really hope not though obviously. Hopefully we get an upbeat lead single this time round as her last two successful singles were ballads.

Posted by: Jack Jan 6 2014, 12:59 AM

Confirmed that she has been in the studio with DJ Mustard - responsible for Rack City and Feelin Myself. I can sense a more hip hop direction with this album, she obviously loves that kind of music what with pushing Pour It Up so hard and we began to see that side to her in the Unapologetic era anyway.

Rihanna is set to release a concept album this year based around the upcoming animated DreamWorks film Home, according to Variety.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation, announced the news Tuesday during the company's quarterly earnings call. Katzenberg said that Rihanna, who also stars in the film, will perform new songs, but did not provide any titles or the album's release date.

Feature: Rihanna: Crazy in Love

The film, set for release November 26th, revolves around a group of aliens that escape their enemies by hiding on Earth. Originally entitled Happy Smekday!, the 3D film is based on author Adam Rex's 2007 children's book The True Meaning of Smekday. Rihanna will star in the film as teenager Gratuity "Tip" Tucci alongside Jennifer Lopez, Steve Martin and Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons.

The 26-year-old singer's next album, the follow-up to 2012's "Unapologetic,” will still be distributed by Def Jam, with an announcement on official plans expected "soon," according to sources.

Yeah I agree but the pink looks a mess to me. The same hair didn't look good on Nicki in the Fly video and it doesn't look great on her either

I actually wouldn't be surprised if she called this album 'R8', '#R8' or the early rumoured 'She'

Posted by: Ryan. Jun 2 2014, 10:59 PM

So apparently Rihanna is going to be making an announcement on Thursday at the Hard Rock Cafe in Paris and the poster below is apparently to do with it. Rumours are now suggesting the album is called 'The R Device' and could even be the surprise iTunes release that is scheduled for this week, but this is of course speculation for the time being!

Posted by: Jonjo Jun 3 2014, 12:35 AM

YES! YES! YES! I do hope that's the name of the album and that this IS the iTunes release!

OH MY! I'm so excited.

'The R Device' is a great title! Please be true!

Posted by: HausofKubrick Jun 3 2014, 12:40 AM

PLEASE. It must be her or Madonna and both would completely kill me.

Not too fussed on the title if that is indeed what it is (I think i much preferred 'R8' which was circling around among the fans ohmy.gif) but very excited nonetheless.

Posted by: *Tim Jun 3 2014, 06:11 AM

I need it! "The R Device" sounds nice but it's not amazing

If she's part of the surprise release, why does it have to be in the week I'll be off to Spain drama.gif

Posted by: Ryan. Jun 5 2014, 09:56 PM

The announcement was that Rihanna has launched a charity t-shirt to raise money for The Clara Lionel Foundation, so that's a great cause and I hope it raises lots of money!

So what is it they're actually doing? And is it not actually for her album then? Confused~ unsure.gif

Well Will appaz visited Jimmy Fallon and he has a segment in his show called lipsync battle.

Given that he tweeted Rih, Taylor and Miley all the same message, I think Jimmy and Will did a battle and their songs came on?

Posted by: Atonement Oct 10 2014, 10:05 AM

I really cannot wait for her to release a new single. I'm definitely in need of a pop tune right now and Rihanna has the best tunes to her name out of all the current pop singers.

Although the mentioning of Will.I.Am and Charli XCX doesn't give me much hope..

I loved TTT sad.gif

Posted by: Cremey Oct 11 2014, 11:12 PM

The last two weren't great but still had a fair few great songs!
'Talk That Talk' especially. An album that includes both 'Birthday Cake' and 'We Found Love' can do no wrong in my eyes..

Posted by: Neil. S Oct 12 2014, 04:16 PM

Unapologetic was awful. Rated R was awful. Everything else is a masterpiece imo but nothing beats A Girl Like Me wub.gif

This post is so wrong on so many levels I can't even

Posted by: • Josh • Oct 12 2014, 04:20 PM

Unapologetic is really awful, I've still not been able to listen to it all the way through in one sitting.

I think Talk That Talk may be her best album for me, Loud a close second. Good Girl Gone Bad is another 11/10 album, so many memories too..

Posted by: HausofAquarius Oct 12 2014, 04:32 PM

Neil NO. 'Rated R' is her opus.

There's not one song on there that isn't worthy in some way and then as a whole package it's exceptional. 'Loud' has all the HITS so that'd be second for me but by some distance because 'Rated R' ranks as one of my favourite albums from any artist.

Posted by: -Jay- Oct 12 2014, 04:44 PM

I never really understood the hate for 'Unapologetic'! (I think I've written that exact statement here before now, ha). There's some great tracks on there. It's about on par with 'Talk That Talk' for me, although the latter had the huge appeal of containing 'We Found Love' and 'Where Have You Been'. wub.gif

Although 'Rated R' is a fan-favourite (include me in that), at the time of release I remember a lot of people being incredibly disappointed with it, given it was a huge change from 'Good Girl Gone Bad' which was pretty much worshipped over the previous 2 1/2 years. And of course 'RR' underperformed somewhat at first ('Rude Boy' saved it to an extent), which was a huge injustice. Imagine a new Rihanna album entering at #16 in the UK charts these days! laugh.gif

Mentioning 'Good Girl Gone Bad', that album isn't as good as I remember it being back in 07/08. I don't tend to revisit many of the tracks!

Posted by: AdamAloud Oct 12 2014, 05:02 PM

I'm probably alone in thinking 'Talk That Talk' is her best album. laugh.gif But there is not a single song I would skip on there and I'd rank them all at least an 8/10. 'Loud' is a close second.

'Unapologetic' has some absolute corkers on there but the tracklist does not flow well at all. 'Right Now' sticks out like a sore thumb and 'Diamonds' being put between 'Phresh...' and 'Numb' is a bit jarring.

Posted by: •CDC• Oct 12 2014, 06:48 PM

RATED R - 9.5/10
Highlights: Rude Boy, Hard, Fire Bomb, The Last Song, Te Amo & Photographs.

LOUD - 8.5/10
Highlights: Only Girl (In the World), What's My Name?, Raining Men, Man Down, S&M & Skin.

GOOD GIRL GONE BAD 8.5/10
Highlights: Umbrella, REHAB (wub.gif), Distrubia, Please Don't Stop the Music, Hate That I Love You & Breakin' Dishes.

UNAPOLOGETIC 8/10
Highlights: Diamonds, Right Now, Jump, Nobody's Business & What Now.

TALK THAT TALK 8/10
Highlights: You Da One, Where Have You Been, Drunk In Love, We All Want Love & Do Ya Thang.

A GIRL LIKE ME 6.5/10
Highlights: We Ride, SOS, Break It Off & Unfaithful.

MUSIC OF THE SUN 4/10
Highlights: If It's Loving' That You Want & Pon De Replay.

THIS IS THE DEFINITIVE LIST. Rated R slaying all bases, the point in Rihanna's career where she became an ARTIST. Music of the Sun at the bottom where it belongs, it's weird how went from creating two bad/mediocre albums to giving us one of the most iconic albums of all time. Special mentions to Loud and Good Girl Gone Bad for being amazing. Her last two efforts, although not quite the quality I'd expect from Queen Rih, solid pop albums nonetheless. I'M LITERALLY CRAVING NEW RIHANNA MUSIC; THIS IS LIKE COLD TURKEY.

Nooo Bal cry.gif Rated R disturbed me intently, some good songs but meh

Unapologetic seemed a bit rushed but Talk That Talk was surprisingly great!

Music Of The Sun - 7/10
A Girl Like Me - 10/10 (Solid R&B here)
Good Girl Gone Bad - 10/10 (Great follow-up! Her career was gonna fly biggrin.gif)
Rated - R - 3/10 (umm unsure.gif)
Loud - 10/10 (Every song I loved. The red-hair really worked for the cover!)
Talk That Talk 7/10 (Not bad and some of the songs were bangers)
Unapologetic - 4.5/10 (Not feeling this)

and the apparent tracklisting is:

Bold
Trouble
Ain't No Drama
Barz (featuring Nicki Minaj)
A Drug & A Dream
All Night
Lovin, Fallin, Dyin
Tattered Heart
Real Talk (featuring Drake)
Hall of Fames/Flames?
Pray 4 Me (featuring Big Sean)
Oceans
Veins
Lost Files (featuring Eminem)

There will also be an apparent Deluxe edition too going by this picture.

Calvin Harris has confirmed that he doesn't feature on Rihanna's new album.

The Scottish DJ told The Sun that while he's worked on potential tracks for the singer's eighth album, Rihanna's team didn't get back to him.

"No, I'm not on the Rihanna album," said Harris.

"I did a few things for it but they don't get back to you, there are a lot of people involved."

The Motion star added that Rihanna has a "strong idea" for her next LP: "She listens to everything, I know that, but she's got a strong idea and identity and an idea of what her album should sound like."

Harris referenced his collaboration with the singer for her hit 'We Found Love', explaining it didn't just occur because of their shared association with Roc Nation.
"It's not like they put me on 'We Found Love' because I'm signed to [Roc Nation], they did it because it's a f**king good song," he explained.

"It's okay because I'm working on my stuff and it's going fine."

Liking that she supposedly has a 'strong idea' for R8 too – cohesion please?

I'm almost certain that's Ester Dean. It's certainly not Rihanna! I like the sound of the song, but I'd rather she went for a different sound as that sounds it could be on Loud. I really want her to set trends again and push boundaries, like Rated R or Beyoncé for example, as much as I absolutely adored loud and it's one of my fave albums ever.

RIRI RUMOR: Social media is buzzing bigtime this morning with the news that Rihanna could be dropping her next album R8 on 2/8—which just happens to be Grammy night. The chatter was spurred by eagle-eye fans noticing an HFA pub registration of a brand new track titled "All Night" with Robin Fenty as writer with Florence +the Machine and produced by Paul Epworth. This could indicate a collaboration or a sample of the F+TM track "Only If for a Night," from the band's 2012 album Ceremonials. Is this her first album under the new Roc Nation deal? There was an article in the sun today which says that Rihanna is close to having finalised a deal to perform at the BRITS later this month. In it they stated that Kanye and Paul will unlikely be part of the performance or even be able to make it. Could this mean a NEW song?!?!?! Rihanna has always had a good relationship with the BPI having won twice and performed at the BRITS countless times i think an exclusive performance of a new single or a pre-order IG could work well now have her perform it and then put it on iTunes straight after could be a stroke of GENIUS!

Posted by: Jonjo Feb 11 2015, 09:55 PM

Her release strategy is reminding me of Justin's, kind of. I hope the BRITS performance IS confirmed soon and that she gives us another song! wub.gif

I'd rather that she didn't perform at the BRITs. They're supposed to be about honouring the artists and hits of the past year, plus she's already performed countless times so when she undoubtedly performs following her nomination next year, it'll be much more deserving for me.

Posted by: April Feb 15 2015, 03:41 PM

Yeah also it is not stopping Madonna this year from performing. I'd happily welcome Rihanna back to the UK scene through an incredible BRITS performance.

Posted by: THEO. Feb 16 2015, 12:32 PM

I'm not saying they never do, I can name Beyoncé in 2014 and U2 in 2009 too but that's not the point... If there are multiple performers on the same night that haven't released anything in the eligibility period, it becomes more like the Grammy's/confusing for the audience when these artists aren't nominated.

Posted by: April Mar 4 2015, 03:48 PM

The break was needed. Each era was becoming less successful single wise for post album because of her saturating the charts. A good break means people will be more thirsty for her songs.

The thirst evaporated after "Stay". Poor single choices meant all her post album singles relatively flopped compared to her previous campaigns.

If she released a video for Pour It Up when the single was actually released, it would've been a massive hit. She should've followed up with Jump and actually release a video. What Now did quite well considering, but Love Without Tragedy would've been a bigger hit.

At least a break means she can come back with a bang - and she has surprised everyone with FFS.

Guess you'll have to keep waiting. Gurl has lost it, and shows no signs of getting it back.

Posted by: Jonjo Mar 6 2015, 03:37 AM

She hasn't "lost it" at all. laugh.gif She just clearly wants to experiment with a new sound more. I love how unexpected this has all turned out so far! It was needed and it's come at a really good time in her career, imo. She'll give us a 'Loud' type album with the next era, for now though this will be another 'Rated R' (in the sense that it's something completely different and unexpected from her).

Posted by: Euphorique Mar 6 2015, 11:05 AM

All the stuff she's putting out now sounds MEH to me.

Posted by: Jonjo Mar 6 2015, 01:21 PM

'American Oxygen' will be premiering any time soon!

Gives not much away, but I think this is going to be more urban than what we have been hearing lately! *.*

I love the sound of both of them clips and I lovd FFS. I like how she is experimenting with different sounds. Can't deal with artists that are too samey all the time. Good on her. I'm sure there will still be some club bangers or urban inspired tracks on it somewhere

'American Oxygen' is out there. It's a little underwhelming for me. There should be more lyrics.

Posted by: Davidson Apr 5 2015, 08:02 PM

'American Oxygen' is a complete non-event, what a mess that production is. More than missed the mark there.

This era is so inconsistent so far.

Liking so much more than FourFive Seconds already. But it was not a big task really...

It doesn't really go anywhere and the production is so messy! Hopefully it's not a single or even on R8

The song could've been better (had more potential from the preview).

Posted by: Liаm Apr 7 2015, 07:34 PM

American Oxygen is ok, nothing special. It's just kind of there, passes you by as you listen and you forget how it goes once it's done.

Posted by: mr_aly Apr 8 2015, 12:01 AM

Absolute tripe, three absolutely awful songs in a row and it's fair to say this album is set to achieve the unthinkable of being even worse than her last album.

(She does look stunning in the video though)

Posted by: *Tim Apr 8 2015, 08:53 AM

American Oxygen is the biggest misfire of the era so far. That song, along with no news regarding a release date, her lazyness and the goddamn selfdestructing TIDAL promotion killed 80% of all the excitement I had for R8

Posted by: Acoustic Apr 8 2015, 09:17 AM

This won't even chart. I'm hoping this is it for Tidal exclusives now.

Posted by: Davidson Apr 8 2015, 11:46 AM

My excitement for this is also at an all time low now. Like Ri, you were meant to take more time between your albums in order to actually make something GOOD through not rushing it. I thought this could have been her big critically acclaimed artistic turning point, like Bey had with 'Beyoncé', but it definitely doesn't seem to be so far and seems like her taking a longer break has actually done nothing to improve the musical quality at all. I mean I do like 'BBHMM' but its hardly brilliant. She could so easily give me something to stan over, I know it, but she just isn't and its so frustrating. Lets just hope something killer comes soon.

Posted by: HausofKendrick Apr 8 2015, 11:51 AM

I was expecting something horrid after reading these comments, but 'American Oxygen' is brilliant! ohmy.gif Not sure what you guys are hearing but if anything, this has got me hyped for the album all over again - dare i say my favourite of the three songs we've heard so far. 'Bitch Better Have My Money' was fun for a bit, but i can't really listen to it now, while 'FourFiveSeconds' i still really like, so that's like 2/3 for me. I trust this will grow on a lot of people if it is given exposure..!

Posted by: Iz~ Apr 8 2015, 12:04 PM

It's a little slow but it's not awful and it feels rather well put together on first listen which is something I can level as criticism at the other two songs so far. Not blown away at all but it's not AWFUL or anything. So it's starting off at a better place than Bitch Better Have My Money for me.

Posted by: JoeyXCX Apr 8 2015, 12:14 PM

It's not anywhere near some of her best for me but it's the best thing from this era for me on one listen. Each song has been better than the previous one so hopefully we've got some really good stuff coming...

Posted by: HausofKendrick Apr 9 2015, 02:33 PM

Can't get enough of 'American Oxygen'. It's breathtaking.

Posted by: *Tim Apr 9 2015, 03:27 PM

I really am not exaggerating when i say i am sure it will continue to rise for me and become one of my all-time favourite album tracks at least from her.

Posted by: AdamAloud Apr 10 2015, 07:27 PM

Yeah I'm really loving 'American Oxygen'. Could be a big hit for her when Tidal goes under smile.gif

Of what we've heard so far I'm gonna say
1. FourFiveSeconds
2. American Oxygen
3. Bitch Better Have My Money

But they are all F A B

It's sung by Kanye West but will probably be part of a longer song featuring her too. (Not confirmed to be on this album btw but that's what rumours are suggesting)

I guess it shows shes doing an actual album, instead of releasing amazing singles with quite a few fillers (Except for Loud)

Posted by: Davidson Apr 21 2015, 08:30 PM

It's quite nice, I really like the production. Doesn't blow me away but pleasant enough.

Posted by: Acoustic Apr 21 2015, 09:26 PM

I like the production of James Joint, after American Oxygen which was a little disappointing, I'm hopeful the rest of the album will be of a high quality.

'James Joint' is very nice.

There's currently nothing known about R8 apart from the singles and a few snippets. It's mostly urban sounding as far as I know.
But appaz she went into recording again to re-record the album so right now we are completely in the dark as to what is happening or when a new singles is coming or even what genre is up there

(Merging this with the R8 thread btw)

Rihanna desperately wants new tracks from British artists for her eighth album

'Rihanna is desperate for an edgy sound that will appeal to a European market as well as America,' claims source

Frantic Rihanna has been bombarding UK songwriters and artists for new tracks.

After her much hyped Bxxxh Better Have My Money flopped, the Bajan superstar , 27, has dumped a load of material from her upcoming eighth album and is scrambling around for tunes.

It’s been three years since Rihanna’s last album Unapologetic was released and her new one was due out earlier this year but keeps getting pushed back.

A source says: “Rihanna is desperate for an edgy sound that will appeal to a European market as well as America.

“She’s keen to emulate the same smash-hit success she had with Calvin Harris’ We Found Love in 2011. So far she doesn’t feel the songs she has are delivering the full package.

“Her people have put in calls with the best songwriters on their books and requested they drop everything to help.

“Usually writing camps are set up where hundreds of songwriters are invited to spend a few days coming up with tracks for her. This time they’ve gone direct to guaranteed hit-makers as there’s no time to waste.”

Unfortunately for RiRi the violent video for BBHMM - which only reached No27 in the UK and No15 in America – got more attention than the song.

Kanye West , 38, was drafted in to executive produce the new record and featured on the first single FourFiveSeconds alongside Paul McCartney, 73.

It was a Top 5 hit in both the UK and America.

Our source adds: “Rihanna wants another vintage album like Rated R and won’t put anything out until she’s happy.”

We’re sure it’ll be worth the wait. Another Rude Boy would do nicely for our iPods please.

Part-time singer and full-time footwear designer Rihanna has talked about her new album!

Don’t get too excited though.

“It’s not done!”

Those are three words she says in an interview with Popjustice’s Peter Robinson, in the out-tomorrow new issue of NME. She adds: “To me it’s never done until it’s done. Until the final moment.”

Part of this is down to Kanye West, who announced earlier this year that he was exec producing the album. “Now we just have to wait to get back in the studio together,” Rihanna explains. “His schedule and mine are totally opposite right now, but I think this month we’ll be back in the studio.”

But does she have enough songs for an album? Yes she does thanks very much.

“I have so many songs I love – and they’re so different – that it’s hard to actually put them all on the same album.”
Here’s an idea. Chuck out twelve on Friday, another twelve the week after, and then twelve every week until the end of Q4.

Rih only started recording last year. I'd rather wait than her rush release just to satisfy impatient fans.

And It's pretty clear now the album never existed. Just a collection of recordings with no direction.

Posted by: *Tim Sep 18 2015, 08:31 AM

I don't think we're exaggerating, at least 80%of the navy is fed up with waiting.

First she takes a break, which is something we all wanted.
Then in January she releases 45S. It's a good song, but is it living up to the hype after a 2 year long break between albums? No. But the hype sustains.
Then she releases BBHMM, which puts off a lot of her popfans and kills momentum.
Then the TIDAL exclusive American Oxygen happens, which puts off even more people and when it eventually gets released it flops and is a major hype-killer

Next up is a wait. A very long one, in which we see Rih designing shoes, socks and getting drunk on holiday. Oh and sometimes she records as well.
Then news pours out that the album isn't even finished as she's waiting for Kanye. Why is he executive producer when the era has been a disaster so far?
Why can't she do it herself like she did with her previous albums? Why does she HAVE to wait? Kanye is putting her career and era on hold for what?
An album full of timeless hits like American Oxygen and FourFiveSeconds?

Now it's been nearly 3 years since Unapologetic and we're as close to getting and album as we were 2 years ago.
Why did she rlease FourFiveSeconds when she was never close to finishing it? Who releases 3 songs from a non-existing album? She must be recording for a year now.
She got our hopes up and saw all the thirst for Rihanna music be destroyed by releasing these 3 songs.
She had the perfect oppurtunity to come back with a massive bang and set the music scene afire and maybe finally have first week sales over 250k like her peers do.

For comparison:
Una was recorded in 6 months or less
TTT was recorded in less than 9 months, mostly when she was TOURING
Loud was recorded in 7 months, while she was TOURING and FILMING Battleship
Rated R was recorded in 7 months and she was WRITING for that album

#R8 must be taking over a year or so now, it's still not finished and what is she doing besides it? Designing socks and shoes, while going on holiday?

Posted by: Acoustic Sep 18 2015, 03:57 PM

I'm aware of what's happened this year.

At this point I don't think she cares about first week sales. And It's not unusual to release the first single before the album is completed. In fact, TTT and Unapologetic weren't finished until weeks before they were released. We have no idea of the timeline, or when they intended on releasing this album. So who knows, if Kanye hadn't stepped aside the album could be completed by now.

She clearly likes Kanye and wants to work with him. And why shouldn't she? Because fans don't want to wait any longer? Bye.

Rihanna does what she wants, and the fans will still be here when she eventually does release the album.

BIB1: He never stepped aside, hence why she is currently waiting for him
BIB2: No, because the 3 singles produced so far have been underwhelming to say the least. Take the Kiss It Better & Nothing's Promised snippets in account and that makes it 5
BIB3: Hardly anyone is here for an album full of "timeless songs" like American Oxygen and 45Seconds tho. Like sure she can do whatever the f*** she pleases, but she can't expect her fans to stick around in times of underwhelming material. Unapologetic was quite the underwhelming album in itself already

Agreed. I've not had many eras change my opinion of an artist so drastically, but I've gone from being quite a fan of her to finding her a complete bore since this started. I just want her to release the album so everybody can get over it already.

The campaign (if it could be called that) has totally sucked any excitement and anticipation out of me for the album. I'm praying that her next single is killer!

I'm thinking that her team will try and make everyone forget 'Bitch Better Have My Money' and 'American Oxygen' ever happened and make it seem like her real comeback is some time next year.

Thing is, when she is good she is amazing but I can't remember the last time I was so underwhelmed by a comeback.

RIHANNA'S ROLLOUT: IS IT SOUP YET?

Sources say the long-awaited Rihanna album, ANTI (Roc Nation), will make its debut on Jay Z’s Tidal service on 11/27 and go wide at e-tail and retail the following week (12/4). The latter date will mean her full-scale sales bow coincides with that of Coldplay—and comes two weeks after Adele.

Could Rihanna’s first sales week be a battle for #2 with Chris Martin and company? Will her exclusive week at Tidal—which she supported in its star-studded, highly criticized rollout—prompt negative repercussions from other online services? And what role will that $25m Samsung deal play, if any, in the RiRi rollout?

Rihanna, whose past successes have been driven by big hit singles, has come up short in that department with her latest batch, “Bitch Better Have My Money,” “American Oxygen” and “FourFiveSeconds.”

The long wait for ANTI amplified speculation about the record, which spilled over when her father told U.K. tabloid The Sun that the superstar wasn’t “comfortable” with it.

Meanwhile, her unusual status as a major act with one company as both management and label has added to the level of uncertainty surrounding the plan.

Still, RiRi’s undeniable star power, cultural relevance and impact as a touring force all suggest she may well exceed expectations.

I think everybody needs to calm down! 'FourFiveSeconds' was a big international hit at the start of the year. OK, 'Bitch Better Have My Money' flopped and as for 'American Oxygen' well, it feels GENEROUS to call that a flop. OK, this is not going to be Rihanna's biggest era and it probably isn't going to be her finest either but let's not start saying things like she's thrown her career away for goodness sake! She's a smart woman, I'm sure she knows what she's doing. And if she doesn't well at least we've got 'Loud'.

She needs to press the reset button. Get rid of the previous material and gives a brand new amazing 1st single to get people hyped again.

Posted by: gooddelta Nov 23 2015, 11:38 PM

Thing is, she's sort of got to push forward with this era, even if it's a flop, before deciding to swiftly move on, as it's been hyped up so much. To throw it away now would seem crazy.

Every superstar is allowed a blip, and if this is hers then hopefully it'll push her to come back with something better next time.

I've always wanted to see her live but definitely need to hear ANTI first, if it's terrible then I'll wait until the next era.

Posted by: Jonjeur East 🎷 Nov 24 2015, 01:54 AM

The only song I've not really "felt" this era is 'American Oxygen' tbh. Everything else has been stellar and BBHMM seems like it was a much bigger hit than it actually was. The cultural impact of that song is insane. Everyone seems to know it and most people seem to think fondly of it. It really deserved to be a lot bigger. Amazing song.

I'm so pumped for this album, although I get why most people might not be feeling it as much.

While there is no date announced, the fact of the matter is that Rihanna's eighth studio album is due out any day now. Insiders are reporting as soon as next Friday. Regardless of how true that is with a tour already announced, Anti may be with us in just a few days.

Teasing the release of this album all year with the smash singles, 'FourFiveSeconds' and "Bitch Better Have My Money', Anti is forecasted to be the most successful album in the 'Umbrella' singer's discography.

According to Page Six, Rihanna's new album is out next Friday with a plethora of strong guests including Kanye West (who is already on 'FourFiveSeconds') and Rodeo star, Travis Scott, (Rodeo, the album, not the competitive cattle-riding sport).

Rihanna's world tour is launching next year with a $25 million backing from Samsung's Galaxy line. See below for tickets and tour dates.

I just hope the album gets out this year, next Friday would be great, and especially if she has the whole BEYONCÉ treatment with iTunes front page banners it should at least go top 5 (an underperformance for her definitely, but there's no way she can beat the mighty Bieber/Coldplay/Adele sales right now) [and it better not be a f***ing tidal exclusive]

I really don't see the big deal about the tour starting soon.
She could add ANTi tracks to the setlist to gain interest for the album. Like what Janet did last year.

Apparently she's now actually finished laugh.gif ABOUT TIME. Now we just need a release date, maybe it will be during the tour and she'll perform some on tour anyway? Idk, we're all used to taking everything from this era as it comes by now really laugh.gif

Also if 'Work' is the lead then its bye bye FFS, BBHMM and A02 presumably.

Posted by: AdamAloud Jan 27 2016, 01:14 PM

I'll be surprised if she left off 'FourFiveSeconds' and 'Bitch Better Have My Money'.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 27 2016, 09:44 PM

'Bitch Better Have My Money' has had a massive impact, culturally! It wasn't the smash hit she'd hope it to be, but everyone seems to talk about it and really like it! So I can't see them leaving it off, tbh.

Posted by: Dan_ Jan 27 2016, 10:22 PM

It would make more sense to not have FFS/BBHMM/AO on the album, those songs got released ages ago so don't really fit in with this era. [a bit like how Kanye isn't including Only One/All Day/FFS on his album]

Posted by: Virginia's Walls Jan 28 2016, 01:13 AM

Kiss it Better sounds like an unreleased demo track for an also-ran 80s rnb album.

And Natalia Kills of X Factor shame fame??

Posted by: Liаm Jan 28 2016, 01:17 AM

CONSIDERATION HAS ALREADY SLAIN ME

Posted by: Liаm Jan 28 2016, 01:59 AM

First listen rate:

10 Consideration
05 James Joint
09 Kiss It Better
08.5 Work
08 Desperado
06 Woo
06 Needed Me
05 Yeah I Said It
04 Same Ol' Mistakes
08.5 Never Ending
09.5 Love On The Brain
08Higher
09 Close To You

It's a shame about that middle blip, apart from that it's all very consistent. It's cohesive though, to the point of being a bit samey so it dragged. Maybe those songs will grow when I listen to them individually. Work has grown a lot over the past few listens for me. The album as a whole is a LOT better than I expected though.

THIS!!!

Soooo we're just gonna pretend the other 4 singles didn't happen then and not include them on any collection? Ok then.

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 28 2016, 02:24 AM

Okay, I've just heard this in full, the last 5 tracks (Same Ol' Mistakes, Never Ending, Love On The Brain, Higher and Close To You) are actually really good! A huge gulf between the first 8 tracks, none of which are listenable and mostly a lazy attempt at being experimental and slurring through as if she's had a fair bit of ketamine before recording.

I'm just gonna pretend this album exists from track 9 onwards and forget the rest, though at least it's an improvement from the last album which didn't even contain one good song.

(In short: better than I expected) (partly)

Posted by: Liаm Jan 28 2016, 04:02 AM

Seeing as the album isn't on iTunes or Apple Music yet, it seems that the 28th release is the TIDAL exclusive, I assume the album will out properly tomorrow. Maybe next Friday to give the TIDAL exclusive thing a bit more time but idk, at least she's least she isn't messing up with a Thursday release laugh.gif

Same Ol' Mistakes is a Tame Impala cover btw ohmy.gif

Posted by: burbe Jan 28 2016, 05:28 AM

Consideration, Kiss It Better, Never Ending, Love On The Brain, Higher and Close To You are the only tracks worth bothering with. The rest are just very average, uneventful or sound like demos.

Love On The Brain is the real standout of the album. Her voice has never sounded better. Work is growing on me now, but I can see why it's lead single. Nothing on there is really lead single material. It's all just lacking something compared to her previous albums. It's not the album you'd expect from someone as big as Rihanna.

Posted by: Ja˙ Jan 28 2016, 05:28 AM

Deluxe version of the album forthcoming (Friday), with these tracks included:

14. “Good Night Gotham”
15. “Pose”
16. “Sex With Me”

~

The 13 track standard album is being given away as a free download (MP3 or FLAC files) here: http://rihanna.tidal.com/redeem/?voucher=ANTI (for a limited time only - "A number of free "Anti" downloads will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of whether listeners subscribe to Tidal.")

~

It seems it'll be a Tidal exclusive for a week? Apparently physical copies aren't planned ( sad.gif ), it'll be "exclusively available in streaming and downloadable formats".

this album is doing absolutely nothing for me. 'beyoncé' this was DEFINITELY not.

why is tame impala's 'same old mistakes' needed here anyway? they literally just released that track on their last album :/ she adds nothing to it too and it's pretty much the only reason to do a cover.

'love on the brain' makes me want to turn it all off. such garbage. i just can't.

the only songs i remotely like are 'close to you' and 'kiss it better'. that's it really.

basically i haven't heard such a chaotic lp in a long time. please take more time to release next album if it's going to be as inconsistent and un-rihanna. but i guess this was the purpose. too bad it didn't work at all.

watch the entire world loving this and calling rihanna the trendsetter and the voice of generation and all that stupid shit. let's hope not tho

I'm so happy 'Higher' is on there. It's every bit as amazing as the previews suggested. Rest of the album... I'm sure it's nice as a cohesive piece of work and sounds great when you get back from the clubs at 4am but it's not what I want from Rihanna. On the other hand I guess this is more like Rihanna than anything else she's ever done. This is the music that SHE wants to make.

'Close to You' is beautiful.

I reckon they said, fuck it and just released it as is, focusing instead on profit from the tour and hoping by it being available digitally and also free or on streaming that it won't damage her brand too much for the next album.

7 Consideration
5.5 James Joint
7 Kiss It Better
7 Work (this is hard to give a score to, it'll probably be just a 6 after a few listens due to the repetitive and slightly annoying chorus :/)
7 Desperado
6.5 Woo
7 Needed Me
5.5 Yeah I Said It
8 Same Ol' Mistakes
8 Never Ending
7.5 Love On The Brain
7 Higher (she seems to screech a bit in this one which kind of affects my rate for this sad.gif )
8 Close To You

And I might as well do:

6 FourFiveSeconds (Him remix is like a 9 though laugh.gif I don't hate it as much as I did and the remix has probably helped, lyrics are still lazy tho)
5 Bitch Better Have My Money (Pour It Up is a lot better than this tho)
8 Towards The Sun
7 American Oxygen

Not really the genre I love from Rihanna but there's some tracks that are quite good and most are better than 45S/BBHMM laugh.gif

[This is familiar territory for Samsung, which has shelled out big bucks before to offer a global superstar’s new album at no cost to fans. A few years ago, the tech giant offered one million free downloads of Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album to those with a Galaxy-branded phone or tablet. At the time of press, the total number of free downloads that Samsung and Rihanna are offering of ANTI wasn’t available, but for the $25 million that the company reportedly paid to work with the singer, it is surely a fairly high number.

I liked this on first listen, it did get a bit messy during Desperado/Woo etc. but it starts and ends really well and her voice does fit this more urban sound imo. Rather pleased with it and definitely a jump in quality from Unapologetic! Work is a massive earworm too wub.gif

Posted by: Atonement Jan 28 2016, 02:25 PM

My early rate:

8.5 Consideration
5.0 James Joint
8.5 Kiss It Better
6.5 Work
8.5 Desperado
7.0 Woo
6.0 Needed Me
6.5 Yeah, I Said It
8.0 Same Old Mistakes
7.0 Never Ending
9.0 Love on the Brain
9.0 Higher
9.5 Close to You

Pretty consistent album, definitely her best. This is also her new 'Rated R' so now that doesn't have to be so overrated anymore!

Posted by: AdamAloud Jan 28 2016, 02:31 PM

What an album. The first two tracks I'm not keen on and I wouldn't be sad to see 'Woo' go, but the rest is pure amazing! 'Kiss It Better' is my initial favourite but I can see a lot more growing on me even more, especially 'Same Ol' Mistakes'.

Definitely Rated R 2.0! Who would've thought this was coming 24 hours ago?

Posted by: LushLifeLee Jan 28 2016, 02:37 PM

her next album is probz ready ngl

Posted by: Davidson Jan 28 2016, 02:37 PM

First rate:

08.5 Consideration (feat. SZA)
07.0 James Joint
11.0 Kiss It Better
04.0 Work (feat. Drake)
10.0 Desperado
06.0 Woo
08.5 Needed Me
08.0 Yeah, I Said It
09.0 Same Ol' Mistakes
08.0 Never Ending
10.0 Love On The Brain
08.0 Higher
09.0 Close To You

i'm so happy this album is as great as this, i was really willing her to deliver the goods and she did. i have always thought Rated R aside, Rihanna has always just made albums that were full of hits and then a lot of filler. a bit like Beyonce's self-titled album, i quite like the fact there isn't big stand out hits (kiss me better aside, which has to be single 2) because it has meant for her producing a well thought through and consistent body of work. this is definitely the most "album-y" album she has ever released and after the disappointing quality of the last few albums she definitely needed something like this at this stage. on repeat wub.gif

Posted by: Joe. Jan 28 2016, 02:45 PM

9 Consideration (feat. SZA)
3 James Joint
11 Kiss It Better
4 Work (feat. Drake)
8 Desperado
6 Woo
6 Needed Me
7 Yeah, I Said It
10 Same Ol' Mistakes
8 Never Ending
8 Love On The Brain
8 Higher
8 Close To You
2 Goodnight Gotham
8 Sex With Me
8 Pose

Not a bad album on the whole. I especially like 'Kiss It Better', 'Same Ol' Mistakes' (although I'm now going to have to search out the original of that) and 'Love On The Brain'. I like the general vibe of it, I could definitely do without 'James Joint', but it's so short I can ignore it and I can't identify anything else I want to write off at this early stage.

I don't think this is close to Rated R standard (but that is impossible to beat anyway). If it was all as good as track 9 and onwards, maybe.
