This looks genuinely brilliant. I'm really excited for this and it's just had it's premiere at TIFF 2018 and the reviews have been surprisingly fantastic! ohmy.gif

I miss and love the slasher genre so much. So I'm hyped!

CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS! Also pretty random I know but Cineworld cinema will be re-releasing Halloween (1978) for 40th anniversary. A special showing will be on Wednesday 10th October, check website and type it should be there.

Idk I'm yet to see proof this story needs continuation or retelling. The original is probably my favourite horror film (can never decide between that and Nightmare on Elm Street), but the sequels were unneeded and Rob Zombie's version was a catastrophic misfire. I'll wait for the reviews but I'm skeptical.

This was okay but I don't feel like it added anything new as such, the characters didn't feel that developed and it was kind of just there. Struggling to see where all the praise is coming from and I love horror films! I guess it was an entertaining watch but nothing outstanding.

EXACTLY my thoughts! I was so hyped going in given the big praise but when it ended I just sat there thinking "...is that it?" - it was basically like every other slasher film out there? laugh.gif

I thought it was excellent fun. It didn't subvert the genre or anything - so it technically wan't anything "new", but it was a well paced, effectively scary slasher - the best one we've had in a while (I know there haven't been any decent ones in a very long time). I really liked the characters (bloggers aside, but the bathroom scene was brilliant). Laurie is still an icon and Michael is still bloody scary.

Simple but effective. A strong 3/5.

Saw it last night and liked it a lot, a good movie with some great bits but the tense atmosphere stalled in a couple of places.

So this was pretty good, simple, but still effective. I like that they kept the story at it's bare bones like the original and only added on little aspects that seemed natural rather than play with the mythos too much (especially the dismissing of the theories that Michael was Laurie's brother as conspiracies and Michael refusing to respond or speak). It essentially was a modern retelling and it certainly wasn't as scary as the original could be and I didn't find myself for much if any of the new characters, but Laurie was great and Michael's still as terrifying as ever and I think it did it's job of actually doing an effective homage to the original without trying to reach beyond that and change aspects that didn't need changing like that godawful Rob Zombie remake failed to do so. So generally an entertaining and fun callback, definitely didn't reinvent the wheel but it knew that which made it a bit better.

Oh no, they were on a good path with this one-off and retconning all the other sequels, but more sequels and they're just becoming what they were trying to avoid with more disappointing horror sequels D:

I'd question how the hell they're gonna make it that Michael survived, but I've come to accept the fact he'll just never die laugh.gif
