BuzzJack Music Forum _ Dance _ Jubël feat. NEIMY - Dancing in the Moonlight

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 11th May 2020, 10:27 AM

This from Swedish duo Jubël has entered the Spotify chart yesterday, though currently nowhere to be seen on Apple Music. I can see this definitely being a song that divides opinion, but I quite like it. laugh.gif

I thought this was super old? Weird if it's only taking off now.

I actually rather like this in terms of reworkings though!

Posted by: Rush 11th May 2020, 11:00 AM

Yeah, this came out in mid-2018 and was even a top 10 hit in Sweden at the time (and... minor mid-range charter in a bunch of other countries, probably of the 'playlist inclusion' kind - it has 95 million Spotify plays, which is way more than just a brief local hit would get). Their name used to be spelt just 'Jubel' but the accent got added later. It's a nice cover but I've liked their music since a lot more, particularly 'On The Beach' (a remake of the York track, with new lyrics):

Eh, this doesn’t get you on your feat living your best life like the original does. It’s cute enough but not for me

Posted by: lewistgreen 5th June 2020, 05:54 PM

Debuts at #24 on the dance chart sick2.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 5th June 2020, 06:01 PM

And at #92 on the official chart!

Posted by: lewistgreen 18th June 2020, 09:08 PM

This is about to go Top 20 on iTunes *.*

Kill it x2

Posted by: lewistgreen 19th June 2020, 07:43 PM

It’s at #17 right now x

Fell out of the actual chart this week though kink.gif

Posted by: dan-G 22nd June 2020, 06:43 PM

it's starting to happen again! #63 in today's mid update so should be certain to re-enter and re-peak!

Posted by: Bjork 22nd June 2020, 07:15 PM

the song was on Summer Hits, was taken out, then dropped on Spotify... but then it was re-added to the playlist and it's back sad.gif

Posted by: JulianNial 22nd June 2020, 07:42 PM

Eww no I keep hearing this on Heart they are really trying to make it happen, but it's a no from me.

Posted by: Jason 22nd June 2020, 11:57 PM

Strangely this is doing the opposite of most dance songs atm, it's doing worse on Apple Music compared to its performance on Spotify. tongue.gif

Posted by: Bjork 23rd June 2020, 08:44 AM

Spotify treats dance tracks very different depending if they're covers or not
It always take ages for Spotify to support original songs but dance covers always get support from the start
Cos that's what Spotify listeners like I guess

Posted by: Slick 23rd June 2020, 08:47 AM

This song is on every other Spotify ad at the moment, and has been for weeks. I liked it on first listen, now it just gets on my nerves.

Posted by: Bjork 23rd June 2020, 09:29 AM

I used to hate the song when it was a hit for Toploader back in the day
one of my most hated songs ever, so a dance cover it's not gonna make it any better biggrin.gif

Posted by: Klumzee 23rd June 2020, 10:07 AM

I feel like we don't get a choice if this is a hit or not! It's been all over Instagram/Tik Tok ads for a couple months already, Spotfiy apparently too. I even heard it twice on Heart in the same day! I presume this means Capital will end up supporting it too. I don't quite get it as the original is still very popular and this cover doesn't really add much other than bringing a 2020 sound to it?

Posted by: Bjork 23rd June 2020, 10:10 AM

as a matter of fact, Toploader was also a cover, the original is from the 70s by a band called King Harvest
never heard the original though but I've read Toploader didn't change it much and is a carbon copy

Posted by: ManicKangaroo 23rd June 2020, 03:51 PM

Posted by: Bjork 23rd June 2020, 03:53 PM

thanks, the original is easily the nicest

Posted by: Slick 23rd June 2020, 03:58 PM

This song still reminds me of Jamie Oliver. It was on an advert for Sainsbury's I think, when he was their spokesperson?

Funny you should say it's a '2020 sound' considering this version actually dates back to 2018, just only being promoted now for some reason tongue.gif (it could easily have come out in like 2014, tropical house's sound stagnated extremely quickly)

Posted by: Dobbo 23rd June 2020, 05:19 PM

Jubel will be this year's Sam Feldt in scoring an extremely unexpected second UK hit a long time after their first.

Are you getting confused with 'Jubel' by Klingande? laugh.gif this is Jubël's first hit

Posted by: lewistgreen 23rd June 2020, 05:23 PM

I was going to say they’ve not had a hit before that I know of haha

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 23rd June 2020, 10:23 PM

The vocals on this are totally lifeless. Well, I mean the rest of it is too.

Posted by: Dexton 23rd June 2020, 11:53 PM

Funnily enough, even the “original” by King Harvest was a cover

Whoops kink.gif

Posted by: Rush 24th June 2020, 08:29 AM

Funnily Klingande released a tropical house semi-cover of 'Pumped Up Kicks' (called 'Pumped Up') in 2017, and it has 129 million Spotify plays; if this can randomly become a hit now, perhaps 'Pumped Up' could too tongue.gif

I made the same mistake! kink.gif I could remember the song in my head and was thinking how could they go from something great like that to this.

There have been some dire dance covers in recent years but this is potentially the worst? I'm not a massive fan of the Toploader version either, which people are so keen to hear on every single night out and look at you expecting to love it as much as they do.

It looks like general British public disagree with you. biggrin.gif
It is climbing faster than ever on Apple Music. It is now at #132 there and I think it has climbed some impressive 200 places in just 2 or 3 days.

Posted by: T Boy 25th June 2020, 08:37 AM

I’m a fan of the Toploader version but this is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard. They’ve taken a good song and sucked its soul out completely.

Posted by: Bjork 25th June 2020, 08:54 AM

^thats the rule, thats what they do with these useless dance covers
I seriously think there should be a law, and those shouldn't be allowed biggrin.gif

Posted by: Bré 25th June 2020, 01:00 PM

I'm leaning towards thinking this is the worst yet example of these dance remakes as well and that's no easy feat as the majority of them have been awful lol ~ the sooner this trend dies the better...

(actually it's not the very worst, that title goes to 'The Bender' by Matoma, but it's probably the worst that has charted)

Oh God I had forgotten about this! drama.gif Well I recognised the title and artist but couldn't remember how it went or what was sampled, but I knew I hated it. laugh.gif Curiosity got the better of me and I've just relistened - yep, it's as awful as I thought and probably does pip this as the worst dance remake.

Posted by: Bré 25th June 2020, 01:09 PM

Haha. Sorry for re-awakening the repressed memory, I'd like to forget about it as well xx

Posted by: Jαsє 25th June 2020, 01:12 PM

This is offensively bad blink.gif

Posted by: Klumzee 25th June 2020, 04:28 PM

Gosh I can't actually get in the car with my Mum (who listens to Heart) without hearing this! How much have they paid for this to be drilled into the UK public's heads? I did think it had a bit more life to it than some other recent 'dance' covers, namely 'ily (i love you baby)' but I'm still not a fan of the original. It also sounds very manufactured and saccharine in particular.

Posted by: lewistgreen 25th June 2020, 08:05 PM

So this is on Heart's highest rotation of 7-8 plays a day!

Posted by: lewistgreen 26th June 2020, 04:45 PM

Re-entry at #53 this week. A newer remix from Nathan Dawe is out today

Posted by: Jason 26th June 2020, 04:50 PM

I would bet my money on this climbing to the top 40 next week.

Posted by: Mark223 27th June 2020, 01:31 AM

The PBH & Jack Sunset Remix Radio Edit of this song (the video was posted in the first post of this thread) is on Apple Music top 1500 too (at #1366).

Posted by: lewistgreen 27th June 2020, 10:10 AM

Ha this is right behind Jason Derulo on iTunes now

Posted by: Dobbo 30th June 2020, 03:37 PM

I still don't understand why this is only becoming a hit now but eh let's just roll with it. It's my personal fave of the splurge of dance reworkings (yes, not difficult etc.)

Posted by: Slitherhisser 30th June 2020, 06:54 PM

The Nathan Dawe remix I really like with its retro eurodance-y synths in the drop (if only this was the 'official' version'). The unremixed version I find rather boring sadly.

Posted by: JosephStyles 30th June 2020, 07:00 PM

Loving this! wub.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 3rd July 2020, 04:39 PM

And there we have it #27 this week. Not even a steady climb, an actual leap of almost 30 places laugh.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 3rd July 2020, 04:45 PM

Progress like that leads me to think this will be a top 10 challenger before the month is out.

Posted by: lewistgreen 6th July 2020, 05:29 PM

Only up 3 places in the mids today so maybe it won’t be such a quick rush to the Top 10 if it even makes it.

Radio 2 keep playing this sporadically and I’m worried they’ll playlist it. It is absolutely the type of dance they’d go for though 😩

Posted by: lewistgreen 18th July 2020, 08:56 PM

Why am I now enjoying this? Help me

Posted by: awardinary 31st July 2020, 04:51 PM

Now a UK Top 20 hit! ohmy.gif

Posted by: awardinary 3rd August 2020, 12:24 PM

The midweeks now shows this inside the Top 10! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Jαsє 3rd August 2020, 12:24 PM

I honestly think this is one of the worst songs of the last few years mellow.gif

Posted by: Bjork 3rd August 2020, 12:42 PM

why this made a comeback? 20 years ago it was like the worst cover ever and the most unlikeable and anti-cool thing ever when Toploader did their cover biggrin.gif

fair enough if you dislike it, but it's hardly unlikeable and anti-cool when it's been constantly going in and out the Spotify top 200 since https://kworb.net/spotify/track/3Fzlg5r1IjhLk2qRw667od.html, long before this new cover took off.

Bjork in disliking dance cover shocker ohmy.gif

Posted by: tomwilkinson 3rd August 2020, 05:15 PM

Think what you think of it, but the chilled summer Kygo-esque vibes of this cover are probably the reason this is doing so well atm

Posted by: Bré 4th August 2020, 11:56 PM

The depressing inevitability that this is going to be yet another completely soulless and trash remake to outpeak the original version (not the original I know but you know what I mean) is proof that we have truly strayed a step too far from God's light.

Posted by: awardinary 14th August 2020, 05:15 PM

Just missing out on the Top 10 this week but reaches a new peak of #11.
