About time! Season 5 (if you can call three episodes a season) was very easily the weakest yet so I'm hoping the break can allow this to be a return to form.

Really looking forward to this coming back, hopefully it should be available pretty much when Inside No 9 has finished its new run. Excellent timing!

So good to finally have this back! I’ve watched Joan is Awful and it’s very meta, although definitely not as close to the bone as it could have been.

I'm so late to this show but I've finally started watching from the beginning (only on S2 as I quickly realised that I wouldn't want to binge this, as I like processing these one at a time) and it's right up my street so far. I heard that fans were disappointed by the last season so hopefully the new one will be a step back in the right direction.

Just finished watching 'Joan is Awful' and I'm pleasantly surprised given the reviews for the series have been mixed. I thought it was really enjoyable and very well told - great fun!

I totally think Netflix missed a trick though as they could so easily have had a fake programme box in their interface saying 'Dandy is Awful', 'Klaus is Awful' etc from our first names on the user log in information details to tie in with the release

Also - if this ever did happen to me, I said to Mr D* that the first thing I'd do is basically stay in bed for days on end so nobody had anything to watch.

I also watched Joan Is Awful.
I have to say, I love Annie Murphy (like LOVE love). However I didn't really care for that episode if I'm being honest. I found it predictable and a bit dull. It really just hit all the points a Black Mirror episode should, but nothing more. I'm trying to get my friend into Black Mirror, and she loves Annie as well.. but, not sure I would recommend that episode.

Loch Henry.
A bit more of what I expected from Black Mirror. A good story and good development of that story (and that’s what I felt was lacking with Joan Is Awful).

I liked the Documentary angle to it all, they could have drawn out the arch in the storyline a bit more however.
I’m keeping the last three for tomorrow night as I have a long weekend!

I loved loved Joan Is Awful…and Annie Murphy was amazing…that church scene FTW!!!

Didn’t care much about Loch Henry, the twist was very predictable and it kinda didn’t even feel like Black Mirror series for me!

I also enjoyed the Mazey Day (I watched that before episode 3 because of the length, I needed to go to bed lol)

So far my rankings:

01. Joan Is Awful
02. Mazey Day
03. Loch Henry

Joan is Awful was such a massive highlight, I wish they even did the Cate level but of course 😅 I binged through all though and I can’t remember the last two episodes. Maybe I should space them out next time, oops

Beyond The Sea:
Definitely my favourite out of the three so far. Aaron, Josh and Kate were all fantastic (especially Josh in the orange shorts hehe)
Predicable at times however, you definitely knew what was going to happen as it unfolded - but all together, good story. A little dragged out.

Mazey Day:
80% of this felt like Episode 3 of an existing series on Netflix. It’s crazy how much they cramped into that small episode. For me, that had everything I was looking for. Story, Gore, Twists, Gluttony. that twist at the end was f***ing stupid tho laugh.gif but they made it work actually. Good gore at the end, and they carried the message that Paparazzi are scum right until the very end. Well done!

Demon 79: Wasn’t for me really.. I was exhausted by this point and just wanted it to be over.

Ranking:
Beyond The Sea
Loch Henry
Joan Is Awful
Mazey Day
Demon 79

Watched the first two so far.

Joan is Awful was... ok, but nothing we haven't seen before elsewhere and very underwhelming despite an engaging pair of leads.

Loch Henry was a more interesting prospect but beyond predictable. We called it the moment of the bar scene scene but dismissed it as too dumb for Black Mirror. Woops!

Also getting a bit fed up of Netflix using the show as a way to promote itself.

Hoping the rest are rather better

Joan is Awful was definitely better than anything from Season 5 so that's a promising start I guess! I did enjoy the meta twist and commentary (just don't think about it for too long x) the first part and the performances throughout were great, sadly it couldn't quite stick the landing and got a bit too silly in the end and I didn't like the tonal departure from the psychological effects on Joan to generic action movie climax . It does also confirm a usual problem for modern Black Mirror in that it never quite went dark enough, and while it has worked before, happy endings just feel so out of place in this show.

Now let me avoid this thread as some of you have already finished kink.gif

S1-3 are pretty top quality throughout (if uncomfortably prescient in places), hopefully you'll love White Bear and San Junipero wub.gif Cracks started to show a little bit from S4 onwards but all still worth watching (S5 is a serious slog though x)

We watched Loch Henry last night. It was okay but it didn’t feel at all like a Black Mirror episode? Felt more like a Scottish version of a scandi murder drama but not as good as one of those. Is this the first episode not to have been about technological development in some manner?

Watched the first two episodes. Loved the "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is" Easter egg in the first one. Joan is Awful was pretty solid.

I was trying to figure out what was Black Mirror about it, great episode but aside from the Streamberry link and the general dystopian atmosphere at the BAFTAs scene I wasn't sure where the tech came in, (all the filming aside but that's fairly normal tech to us) - I suppose it was a criticism of commercialisation of true crime?
