ABBA GOLD: SURVIVOR

I’ve taken it upon myself to launch my own survivor poll type thing, this one is for one of the biggest selling album of all times and also (sort of) coincides with the buzz around Mamma Mia again. The rules are simple please vote for YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE and every couple of days I will eliminate the song with the most votes until we have a winner.

LATEST ELIMINATED

10th Place - Waterloo (8/34 votes, 23.53%)

11th Place - Fernando (14/31 votes, 45.16%)
12th Place - Money Money Money (11/34 votes, 32.35%)
13th Place - Super Trouper (8/39 votes, 20.51% FLASH VOTE: 12/22 votes, 54.55%)
14th Place - Chiquitita (6/34 votes, 17.65%)
15th Place - Thank You For The Music (16/36 votes, 44.44%)

16th Place - One of Us (11/32 votes, 34.38%)
17th Place - Does Your Mother Know (9/29 votes, 31.03%)
18th Place - The Name Of The Game (10/28 votes, 37.04%)
19th Place - I Have A Dream (6/23 votes, 26.09%)

Starting the top ten off is ABBA's first hit in the UK and the song that propelled them to superstardom. 'Waterloo' was the the winning entry of the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. It stayed at #1 for two weeks, keeping Mud's "The Cat Crept In" from the top spot and holding off The Rubette's "Sugar Baby Love" for a week.

This was a closer round than the last couple. Both "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "Lay All Your Love On Me" gained 6 votes, "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" was one behind with 5 votes and "SOS" recieved 4. "Dancing Queen" had two voters, "Take A Chance On Me", "The Winner Takes It All" and "Mamma Mia" all had a soliatary vote, and "Voulez-Vous" had no votes for the third consecutive round.

Surprised but pleased that 'Waterloo' is out already, that was second in line for the chopping block. But first in line is 'Dancing Queen' so I've gone for that again.

I will have to think about this one. So far I voted for Super Trouper until it went out and then Waterloo. As there are no contests going on this week,I should have time to listen to the remaining songs to remind me.

SOS is classic, in fact all the remaining tracks are epic - there are 2 that are less epic than the others though, and one of them was sampled by Madonna and used as a TV sitcom title....

Aw no I forgot to vote in the last round (not that my vote for 'Dancing Queen' would have made any difference). You people better not be having the cheek to vote 'Lay All Your Love On Me' out before some of the shit still on the list.

I voted for 'Dancing Queen'. x

'Lay All Your Love On Me' again for me, easily the weakest one left, although it's still a fantastic song

Madonna slaughtered the sample tbh, like Vanilla Ice level of sampling a 10/10 song to create something drab
