What better way to kick of the Paramore forum than looking to the band's future!
I'm expecting an album not too far off After Laughter, but perhaps more synths this time. Similar to Pale Waves. I really hope they don't go full pop like Panic!
Hopefully we don't have to wait too long...
They could go anywhere really, not going to lie I miss their RIOT!/ Brand New Eyes sound but I guess in some ways it was of its time. After Laughter was incredible and they've got to make what feels natural to them now, would be cool to see something heavier though, and I don't necessarily mean guitars- heavy sounding/ experimental synths would do.
After Laughter was more poppy overall but it was still experimental for them in some ways with tracks like No Friend. Half expecting them to go even more poppy, half expecting a complete diversion into experimental who knows what or maybe even a return to roots. Keeping an eye on HalfNoise as well could indicate what Zack's influence might be in terms of writing because he only rejoined the band during the production of AL.
I'm happy with whatever direction they want to take, but wouldn't mind if they went back to their RIOT! sound. I kind of miss the egde they had. Perhaps more so nostalgia than anything as I used to listen to them so much when I was in secondary school.
Considering their last two albums saw a gap of 4 years between their release and that their tour finished in September 2018, I don't think we'll be getting an album until 2020 at the earliest.
I'm expecting a bob for Hayley, (or maybe actual short hair...we can dream) and some influence of Chvrches, as they've worked together and Chvrches last album sounded very influenced by Hayley.
Wouldn't be surprised to see them carry the sound over from the last one but embrace some electronic elements, similar to what Imagine Dragons and Bring Me the Horizon have done.
I would be a little surprised but would also hazard an off-chance of them doing some Tegan and Sara style pop, so still kinda alternativey but leaning into a 'we're adults now and if we do pop its making pop cool' kinda vibe.
the great thing about what they're doing now is that it's completely unpredictable, they could turn out a full blown country album or something extremely experimental
i was thinking about this recently and a lot of people always think their sound has completely changed each time they sonically progress but if you look at their singles club EP (the first thing they released without josh and zac), in the mourning sticks out as the odd one out bc it is kinda country and very chilled and acoustic but you see a lot of that style in the interludes in their self-titled. Then you have the big pop bops in still into you and ain't it fun - the latter being really rythmic and influenced by so many different styles and then that brings us onto after laughter which is also very rhythmic, lots of different instrumental parts going on in literally all of their songs. my fear is that they take no friend as the sort of style to build their next album off of because its the most different - i dont know how i'd feel about that tbh
i end up loving whatever they come out with anyway and I don't dislike no friend per say, it's just my least favourite song they've ever done
I’d be happy with anything tbh, if they went more electronic pop I’m sure they’d have a way to avoid sounding too commercial or trend chasing (not they they would be, just that’s how critics would see it).
now that I would be here for *.*
I feel like they probs won't go as dark with their lyrics for a while tho as they all do seem so much happier these days
I would expect them to come out with something that's thematically about some emotional times, After Laughter was quite the upbeat, inclusive album and I can see them wanting to do something a bit more personal to them. Sound-wise, I'd agree that heading towards electronic and CHVRCHES-esque seems quite likely but with their own twist to it.
For myself, I would just love some edge back to the music and a greater sense of identity. My problem with After Laughter wasn't that it wasn't technically good, or that it was pop, but it did firstly stray a little close to sounding less unique, and not REALLY pushing the boundaries of raw emotion that is so apparent on Riot/Brand New Eyes, or the ferocity/emotion still apparent on the different sides of the self-titled. It's good, but they can do better.
omg I'd argue that after laughter is their most personal and emotional album yet?? it's literally all about Hayley's struggle with her mental health and her relationship etc, its just relatable in the sense so many people have the same sort of issues with depression and anxiety etc and I don't think it lacks edge either, sure it's not as rocky but the contrast between the really dark lyrics and the upbeat rhythms is what does that for me. I can't think of an album like it either so it is defo unique as well without it not sounding like them.
Omg I'd be so here for more of the acoustic/country hints we got on self titled, Hayley has one of those voices that could easily sell that and make it amazing, not just anyone can. It might not be for everyone and as accessible as AL but I think her voice is perfect for it. Although you could say that about most genres, her voice is the reason they can shift to so many genres without losing their heart, they could probs do jazz or sth and she'd still work it (but no thanks x).
I'd quite like them to move back in the rock direction and do something like PVRIS' recent albums. I wouldn't mind if they went more pop though, especially if it was synth-pop
Iz I get where you're coming from, I miss their old sound too but do you think it might just be because Hard Times was the lead single and that set the tone a bit for you? No Friend and Tell Me How are examples that still really deliver in terms of lyrical and musical cohesivity. Personally I think Hard Times is great but then I'm a sucker for juxtaposed emotions in lyrics and music. Fake Happy is such an amazing track, Rose Coloured Boy/ Told You So are bops, 26 just gets me in a The Only Exception kind of way only more mature, Tell Me How is also an emotional killer. AL isn't my favourite from them but I think it was the perfect album for them to release in 2017 at that stage in their career.
It was more Told You So that set the tone if anything, once is a fluke, two is a pattern And Told You So is just bad. Hard Times is okay. But Told You So is awful and it soured me on how I was going to find the album.
I LOVE Fake Happy and Rose-Coloured Boy but they do feel significantly different from the Paramore I fell in love with and I wasn't into that becoming their sound for an entire era.
omg how do i ban iz from this forum
you can never, my paramore opinions will stand as long as this forum stands
I mean I like Told You So but it's nowhere near any of my faves from that album either It kinda just felt like a discount Hard Times really x
foR aLL I KNoWw
A whole album of Hard Times type bops pls
have u listened to after laughter 👀
rose coloured boy is boppier than hard times, y'all are sleeping on that
The girls at work complimented my Fake Happy shirt today, I've changed my opinion.
Seriously though, listened again to Told You So trying to remove all preconceived biases, still don't like it. Their sound is so variable in quality right on the album, there's Fake Happy which is blindingly amazing, Rose-Coloured Boy which is nearly as so, and then there's that. And Hard Times... eh... it's so average.
The one thing you could accuse me of in taste court with After Laughter is not giving enough time to some of the more grower-like tracks, like 26 or Pool (and even that's a bit experimental and I have to be in a certain mood for), which to be fair, I do that all the time with albums, I didn't care for Last Hope until a few years after the release of the self-titled. But singles represent the album for me and they chose SO POORLY. And it's not like Riot where even if the singles are comparatively weak, the quality is so high that they're just the worst of a great bunch. On After Laughter there's weak ones like Caught In The Middle and Grudges where the vocals just tail off into emotional nothingness so many times and it's nowhere near as addictive as their other stuff.
Like, at least I like the 'right ones' on After Laughter, right? Fake Happy, 26 and Rose-Coloured Boy (+ No Friend because I'm an edgelord), those are the tastemaker's darlings. I'm just a bit more critical of it.
of course as soon as our forum got binned Hayley starts teasing new music on instagram
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/paramore-new-album-interview-update-1282239/
They are now officially in the studio recording... looks like it'll be out this year!
THEY'RE BACK!!!!
With confirmation they've been in the studio (apparently recording an album with heavy drums and guitar!!) This could maybe be released this summer/autumn with this headlining festival lining up with their touring plans PLEASE
The line up for that is nothing short of insane tho like ???
ayiyiy the nostalgia jumped out with that lineup
It’s a shame it’s all on one day though! You’d probably only get to see 8-10 bands on there at the most.
Yea and it would depend on stage times as well, it's a shame it's only the one date in America too as I'd be there in a heartbeat if I could be!
An intimate US tour was announced today… hopefully new music is on the horizon!
Rumours are going around that the new single will be released next month!
All three members have changed their Instagram profile pics, could new music be coming tomorrow?
Their website is currently down.

LEAD SINGLE CONFIRMED FOR RELEASE 28/09
"This Is Why"
Very very excited!
Their sixth album will be out on February 10 and the title is the same as the lead single.
Looks like the single will drop at 6.15pm tonight with the music video, they're doing a live stream for it I believe
Exciting! It does feel like there is little fanfare for it, but might just be the people I follow on Twitter idk.
Wait I can't count, it think it's 6.15pm
Out now!
Idk how I feel, I don't hate it but I am a little disappointed. I think in my head I was expecting something more BNE/Self-Titled sounding but instead it sounds like the perfect mix of Hayley and Zac's solo stuff with some Told You So influences. I'm hoping there's better from the album I guess and I do expect it to grow on me a lot as it is catchy and I like the lyrics a lot
Really like this. Looking forward to the new album.
I wasn’t sure at first but it’s definitely grown on me after a few listens, it reminds me a little of Foals!
This is so good, Petals For Armor stans won it reminds me a lot of Cinnamon from that album but with a bit of a Talking Heads vibe mixed in, and feels like the perfect progression from Self-titled -> After Laughter -> PFA/FFV -> this. Tbh I was expecting something a bit rockier and closer to their earlier albums (maybe more Sudden Desire than Cinnamon if we're going by PFA) but this was super instant for me and I'm so ready for this era even if 5 months is gonna be a long wait!
Oh I love this! I think it's more up my street any of the singles from 'After Laughter' I did really enjoy both of Hayley's solo albums though, which I definitely hear traces of here and I get the Foals and Talking Heads comparisons too. "this is why I don't leave the house" coming to be many an instagram caption? (mood tbh)
I think that's one of the better guitar lines I've heard on a Paramore track for quite a while, I'll take that. Definitely feels like with so long between this and 'After Laughter' that they've entered a new phase of the band, bring it on.
That chorus is straight from a mid-noughties British indie band — I'm into it.
It does sound like a good blend of their solo work, as well as a natural progression.
Yeah it’s definitely giving me Petals For Armor too which is fine but I expected it to be rockier after they said it was going back to a more guitar led sound, it’s growing a bit just not exactly what I wanted so we’ll see what else the album has to offer.
The clip they'd teased with the other week isn't even for this is why so maybe there will be more rockier sounding tracks on the album but generally there is a clear theme sonically with Paramore albums and since this is the lead track I'm pretty sure this is setting the tone for the whole album. I guess we want something new sounding than them going backwards so it is nice to hear something that sounds like such a natural progression.
The album's track listing has been leaked via a tour t-shirt!
1. This Is Why
2. The News
3. Running Out of Time
4. C'est Comme Ça
5. Big Man, Little Dignity
6. You First
7. Figure 8
8. Liar
9. Crave
10. Thick Skull
It's a nice, catchy song!
Added to both HHUK and the Radio 1 playlist today
UK tour announced for April next year!
This song is fine, but I haven't had much desire to return to it much.
Yeah agreed sadly, it's nice enough but probably one of their weaker lead singles
Hope there is better on the album.
This is my favourite lead of theirs since 'Ignorance' *.* really looking forward to the album!
Bloc Party is an inspired choice to support them on tour! But not too surprising given how much Hayley has cited them as influences lately.
‘The News’ is apparently the next single and will be released in 2 weeks from now!
Did anyone else get tickets for their UK tour?!
It looks like 'The News' is finally being released soon, here's a preview! - https://www.tiktok.com/@paramoreofficial/video/7171501880059645227
Out on December 8th!
Okay this is more like it
CRYING THIS IS PARAMORE
YESSSS!! Definitely more instant than This Is Why, that did grow on me quite a lot though.
I got tickets for Cardiff, can’t wait!!
"The News" is great - the production is so good. So excited for the album!
New music on Thursday, they have the hottest record!
Both of these singles have been great so far - 'This Is Why' feels like a perfect blend between a continuation of Hayley's solo material and a full Paramore comeback. And 'The News' is just a banger. Excited for the rest of the album!
And the next single is...
"C'est Comme Ca"!
Love this! Hayley says it was inspired by Dry Cleaning & Yard Act, and you can certainly hear that!
I love the spoken-word verses and the middle eight... but that chorus? Choices were made.
ccc has zac written aaaallll over it
Probably unpopular opinion but I think this may actually be my fave of the 3 so far? (Maybe I was conditioned to be biased towards it because of the inspiration from the UK post-punk scene, can definitely hear that in the verses). I guess I can see why the chorus may turn people off but I think it's gonna be quite an earworm.
3 for 3 excellent singles anyway!!
I'm a mess this album is SO good like ???? This might/likely will end up being my fave Paramore album, I'm ready to say that after only one listen
Running Out of Time and You First are real highlights
The vocals, guitars, drums, production ugh everything is just perfect, it genuinely sounds like a mix of all their previous album styles but it's still so fresh and elevated like idk how they can continuously do that?!!!
I re-listened to all of the singles again this evening, and they’ve all really grown on me! I’m looking forward to giving the whole thing a listen soon
'Figure 8' appreciation as I'm not seeing enough love online for that one so far
I'm here for the indie/alt rock influences everywhere and look forward to seeing what clicks more on subsequent listens.
Only 10 songs?
This is high quality. Really sounds great all the way through, with most of the best of their styles really pushing through. I think C'est Comme Ça, best punky feel, and Thick Skull, great slower finish to the album, sounded like the best on first listen but I feel like this will do very well with time.
I've only given this one listen through so far but I'm absolutely loving it, so great to have them back! Definitely feels like a combination of all the Paramore albums + solo work in one.
The darker rockier sound of the album tracks is more what I was expecting prior to the singles, but I think they made the right single choices. You First and Figure 8 are definite standouts already!
Confirmed that running out of time is the next single and a music video will be dropping soon, I think this is the most "single sounding" song of the album so hopefully it does good things for them!
Now that I've been listening to it more I adore Crave as well, my ranking atm would probs be:
1. You First
2. Running Out Of Time
3. Crave
4. Cest Comme Ca
5. The News
6. Figure 8
7. Big Man, Little Dignity
8. Thick Skull
9. Liar
10. This Is Why
Yet another great album from them! Love it.
Listening party on Monday from 7pm on Radio 1
Running out of time video is out tomorrow, they performed on Jimmy Kimmel last night as well
I am loving 'Running Out Of Time'. It's psychedelic and funky and I could play it over and over again.
I know die hard Paramore fans will say it's more watered down than their earlier material.
I actually think this album is the perfect balance of all their signature sounds from their whole back catalogue, there's something for everyone on the album as well, there are more rock rooted songs for people that like that
Most reviews I've seen are positive but there's always gonna be that group that's like "I miss the old Paramore" but musicians have to evolve their sound as they grow they can't just keep making angsty teen songs like they did in 2007
"Running Out of Time" is stuck in my head. I hope they send it to US radio soon. "This Is Why" became their first #1 on alternative radio in the US and "Running Out of Time" could quite easily become their second tbh!
I'll be replaying the album throughout the year, it's more than I expected - even though it's only 10 tracks as well! I really like every track.
My top 3 at the moment:
"Running Out of Time"
"C'est Comme Ça"
"Crave"
May or may not post again in a few days to give some more / more specific thoughts but on first listen I think 'Crave' is the one for me from the album tracks <3 followed by 'Figure 8' and 'Big Man, Little Dignity'. It was almost the second no-skip album of the year for me (after Young Fathers) but 'Thick Skull' was a bit of an underwhelming closing track for me - still think it's probably my 2nd fave album of the year so far anyway though.
Can definitely see why 'Running Out Of Time' was chosen as a single and I am loving that too (even if some of the lyrics feel like they're personally attacking me ) Love the video as well!
I will note that I thought (and still think) the hook is the weakest part of the title track but thankfully the hooks pretty much everywhere else on the album are a lot better! (and I still include 'C'Est Comme Ça' in that idc, think that's still my favourite song on the album x)
My ranking of the album would actually be very similar to Lindsey's I think apart from 'You First' being a fair bit lower (and probably 'This Is Why' a few places higher but I wouldn't be surprised if a couple more album tracks grow on me to overtake that)
01 | The News
02 | Figure 8
03 | You First
04 | Running Out Of Time
05 | Liar
06 | This Is Why
07 | Crave
08 | Thick Skull
09 | Big Man, Little Dignity
10 | Cest Comme Ca
Thick Skull has been a massive grower tbh, my ranking has changed a bit since my earlier post
1. You First
2. Crave
3. Running Out Of Time
4. Figure 8
5. Thick Skull
6. C'est Comme Ca
7. The News
8. Big Man, Little Dignity
9. Liar
10. This Is Why
Even looking at having Liar so low looks wrong because I do genuinely love it, the whole album is 10/10 really, aside from the title track but it's still a solid 8.5 I don't know what it is about that song that hasn't clicked, could just be the hook as Bray mentioned
It's good to see this album doing so well for them chart wise as well!
You First better be the next single.
It's genuinely up there with their best songs, apparently Taylor didn't want it on the album tho!! I'm not sure why, I think it's something in the instrumental part he isn't happy with but it's so so good on every level
They don't miss.
soooo who's seeing them next week?! what gig are ya at?
merch looks decent!
I saw them last night at the 02 and they were absolutely fantastic. Really great setlist, mix of old and new, and Hayley's voice is in incredible shape.
Crowd were on really good form too, even those of us up in the gods!
They’ve pulled out of their Live Lounge session today due to ‘personal reasons’.
"Running Out of Time" finally being pushed in the US. It goes for adds on Alt radio Tuesday. "This Is Why" become their first #1 there and I can see "Running Out of Time" doing similarly! Hoping they may push the song to Hot AC/Pop radio as well. Hoping the US push will give the song a little bit of a boost elsewhere.
Loving the album still.
Looks like a deluxe is coming!
Even better news... a remix album is coming! It's titled 'Re: This Is Why' and released on Friday.
Tracklisting:
1. This Is Why [Re: Foals]
2. The News [Re: The Linda Lindas]
3. Running Out Of Time [Re: Zane Lowe]
4. Running Out Of Time [Re: Panda Bear of Animal Collective]
5. C'est Comme Ça [Re: Wet Leg]
6. Big Man, Little Dignity [Re: DOMi & JD Beck]
7. You First [Re: Remi Wolf]
8. Figure 8 [Re: Bartees Strange]
9. Liar [Re: Romy]
10. Crave [Re: Claud]
11. Thick Skull [Re: Julien Baker]
12. Sanity [demo]
Ooh some very promising names on that list!
This is a fantastic remix album!!! Especially loving the Zane Lowe remix of 'Running Out Of Time', the Julian Baker remix of 'Thick Skull' and the Wet Leg remix of 'C'est Comme Ca' on first listen.
This record feels like a perfect RSD release as well for some reason.
Nothing confirmed yet, but The Sun is reporting that Paramore will re-record their music after leaving a 20-year deal with Atlantic Records.
The campaign starts now to get 'Ignorance (Paramore's Version)' to #1 x
Ffs what has Taylor started lol
PARAMORE HAS OFFICIALLY WON THEIR SECOND AND THIRD GRAMMYS!!!!
Absolutely buzzing for them, no band deserves the recognition more
A remix from Jack Antonoff of the 'Sanity' demo released on Friday:
