So I threw this idea out a few months ago and it seemed to get a fairly good reception so I'm opening it up to the board to see how we want to run it.
First things first, are people still interested in this? It's going to take quite a bit of planning and carrying out so if you wouldn't take part in it let me know because I don't really want to organise all of this for just three interested people. Secondly, if we want to still do this, how do we want to carry it out? My idea was to have different 'qualifying' rounds for each continent where we separately nominate sportspeople and then vote on which ones we want to see in the main contest, and then have intercontinental 'groups' building up to a main final of, say, 15/20 sportspeople. I was also thinking of having a short description of each person's achievements next to said person so that people wouldn't need to research / not vote because they don't know the people. However this might just be my geeky brain and there might be a way of carrying it out that more people prefer. Please make your voice heard in this thread! Even if it's just saying you're not interested, that's still useful to us - I just don't want to get going immediately and then have a bunch of complaints when we've already started |

Hopefully there will be interest in this. I really like the idea of an 'qualifying round' for each continent where you separately nominate sportspeople and then vote on them. Yes the short description of each person's achievements really like the sound of that.

Yes,I would take part in this. A qualifying round from each continent is a good idea but maybe have more places in the final for Europe than you would have for Africa or Asia. 15/20 in the final seems quite low, that would only be 2 or 3 from each continent.
Is this for current sportspeople or will it include people who have retired? |

Is this for current sportspeople or will it include people who have retired? That's open to discuss but I'd be fine with including retired sportspeople! Yeah I was thinking of maybe using the same proportions of qualifiers as in the World Cup but scaled up, so Europe get more qualifiers than the other continents. I think the number in the final would have to depend on the number of nominations we get but maybe have 30 or so in the Final, and having like a 'group stage' before that with a few more in might do the trick. |

Looks like a good idea. I particularly like the idea of a short description. That should encourage more people to vote.

Throwing out some ideas for qualifiers now, based on the ratios for the actual World Cup (obviously depends on number of nominations):
AFRICA: 2 groups, 15 qualifiers ASIA (inc. Australia): 2 groups, 15 qualifiers NORTH AMERICA: 2 groups, 10 qualifiers SOUTH AMERICA: 2 groups, 15 qualifiers OCEANIA (exc. Australia): 1 group, 5 qualifiers EUROPE: 4 groups, 30 qualifiers INTERCONTINENTAL PLAYOFF: 2 groups, 10 qualifiers FINALS: Stage 1: 5 groups of 20, 12 qualifiers per group (60 left) Stage 2: 5 groups of 10, 5 qualifiers per group (30 left) Final: One group, either a full rank or a vote for top 10/15 This is a (very) quick draft and I'm 100% open to changes in this so speak your mind! |

I'll get the Europe and Africa nominations up on Monday if that suits!
On another note I genuinely think this could be a gateway for getting more people into Buzzjack so if anyone is in any groups that you think might be interested in this then it would be great if you could give it a bit of a plug, if people on Twitter wouldn't mind sharing it when I put the first rounds up that would be great as well |

Hi guys, just thought I'd propose a change to what I'd previously said just because of the quality of the Final and to try and mix things up a bit:
- Round 1: 10 groups of 10, 3 qualify for Final, 4 go through to Playoffs and 3 are eliminated: - Playoffs: straight 1v1 knockout, 20 more qualify - Final of 50 sportspeople, vote for at least a Top 10 Thoughts? |

That seems fine to me,Pete. I was a bit confused at first because I thought we were in the middle of round 1 at the moment but I've worked out now that round 1 is still to come.
