QUOTE Interview: Will Young talks about Milton Keynes show, Sam Smith, Jeremy Corbyn and love for rugby...
OneMK has interviewed Will Young this morning (Tuesday, September 22) ahead of his show at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, in October. Reporter Jessica Duncan was quite star struck after following Will Young since she was a teenager but managed to stay composed. Lying on his bed with his two dogs Will was happy to talk about his love for rugby, fellow gay artist Sam Smith and shared his views on politics. He also gave us a sneak peak at the playlist for his Milton Keynes show; Are you looking forward to performing in Milton Keynes? “Ow my god I cannot wait, I am such a huge fan of rugby, and I think it is going to be a very special gig in Campbell Park. “It is undercover and I love those kind of gigs as there is such a great atmosphere and hopefully people will have been enjoying the Fan Zone all day beforehand.” Do you like rugby? “Yes, I played rugby for many years as it was quite big at my school and my dad was a rugby captain at the same school. “I played on the wing and still love it. “I think it is a gentleman’s game, which is very tactical and quite specific. “You don’t get players arguing with the referees for example.” Have you been watching the Rugby World Cup? “Yes, I am loving Japan, there performance was amazing. “I have always loved the All Blacks as they have such an incredible discipline, but I am definitely supporting England. “I get really excited when watching a good game of rugby.” Did you expect such a good reception of your new album 85% Proof? “I really hoped it would have a good reception. It was brilliant when it got to number one in the album chart. “I changed record company and changed management to Ireland Records, so I was really chuffed.” Will you be performing some of your original songs as well as those on the new album? “It is going to be fifty fifty really of old and new. The album has only been out six months. “But the exact playlist for the night is a surprise.” What songs do you really enjoy performing? “I really love performing all my songs, but I really enjoy Leave Right Now, Who Am I, Jealousy and the one from the new album Joy.” You studied politics at university, is it still an interest of yours and what do you think to the recent events? “Jeremy Corbyn is interesting. I think it is really refreshing but there are also aspects that are completely unrealistic. “For example saying you are going to claim back 7 Billion of tax is just unrealistic. “What my problem with him is, I think he is a bit of an angry man and being driven by anger isn’t helpful.” You praised fellow gay artist Sam Smith recently for the James Bond theme tune, do you think there are still stereotypes towards gay artists? “No, and I think Britain is really leading the way in that. “It is very different from when I came out and it makes me proud to be British.” What do you like to do in your spare time? “I have a website called My Vintage Journey where I buy brick-a-brac and then sell them. “It keeps me doing something different that I love and is just my taste. “For example I sell woolly hats made by my neighbour in Cornwall which do really well. “Some of the money goes to Battersea Dogs homes, and I have two dogs myself, who you never know might make an appearance on stage in Milton Keynes as they are always on tour with me.” What can people expect from the show? “I think there will be an amazing atmosphere, as the Rugby World Cup is attracting such a worldwide audience and help promote the country. “And I think people who love rugby and music will enjoy it.” Who do you think could win the Rugby World Cup? “Well I am quarter Australian and always rate Australia and New Zealand but I am hoping England. “I won’t be going to any of the games as I am busy on tour but love watching them from home when I can.” Buy tickets for Will Young's show in Milton Keynes here. |

Good Review. Thanks to Heidi
QUOTE England might be out of the Rugby World Cup, but there is still one Brit fella in the spotlight sporting a full England strip this evening (Fri, Oct 9), and looking pretty darn good in it, too. “I’ve brought my legs for the occasion!” he says, looking all-white. Ladies and Gents, Will Young is in the Keynes! MK has been thrust into the international spotlight with three World Cup matches already played out in the town, and tonight (Fri) the Rugby Fan Zone offered up a performer of international pedigree to boot. He’s in sporting mode throughout, a certified rugby fan who between songs passes a few mini-rugby balls stage front for his fans. They prove the only throwaway things among a set of Will finery. “Did anyone get a bloody nose?” he asks his fans after throwing them crowd side, “Suck it up!” Songs including Changes, his cover of the Whitney Houston number How Will I Know, and crowd pleaser Mystified all find space in the set, together with Changes, Jealousy and set-ender Leave Right Now, although at odds with the song, he doesn’t leave at all in the end, staying put and treating us to one more number, Promise Me. Will’s set made for a scrum-tious night of perfect pop. Mystified has to be Your Game. This post has been edited by truly talented: Oct 10 2015, 07:12 AM |

Thanks TT. It was great so see him live again. He said he only had an hour but we had 12 songs without a break - so great value I reckon.
Can't wait for the tour proper. Only a month to wait |

That's a good set munchkin and I agree great value for money. Listening to some of the clips his voice sounds in fine form but then when is it not. He must be one of the most consistent live performers.
Roll on York. Less than 3 weeks to wait. |
