Anyone else listening to this instead of the Christmas chart? I decided it would actually be more interesting given that I roughly know what the official chart will look like! biggrin.gif

Apparently it includes all plays in shops and pubs as well as on the radio since 1/1/2000 - no idea how they estimate that! The definition of “Christmas song” evidently includes anything that happened to be out at Christmas. Anyway it’s a chart and it’s a bit different so I’m enjoying it. I’ll post it after the programme.

That does sound like a cool chart, it is annoying it’s on at the same time as the official chart though 🤣🤣

I guess there’s BBC Sounds 😛

Any plays in pubs, restaurants etc. should be registered with the PRS to generate royalty payments. I assume they are using that to calculate their figures.

Will turn over to this at 4 after the chart. In fact may do so now.

A little story that Gary told. The compiler in charge of the first few Now albums had to fight the bosses to include Stop The Cavalry on the very first Now Christmas as they said it wasn't a Christmas song and shouldn't be included.

No big surprises in the Top 10 but great to see the Pogues at the top.

Further down there are some real oddities though. A forgotten 2008 top 30 hit by Gabriella Cilmi placing well. Two versions of the Power of Love appearing even though it isn’t really a song that people choose to stream at Christmas.

On the other hand the most streamed Christmas song not to make the list is Santa Tell Me. I guess that’s not too surprising as it’s become more popular relatively recently and probably has a younger audience on average.

I would say they are, only ever appear in the top 50 airplay in December each year!

Not surprised that Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande and Leona Lewis aren’t in that list. BBC Radio 2 usually caters to older people.

I guess the fact those songs have only been available since 2013 gave them less time to rack up airplay which I imagine made a big difference to this chart. Gabriella Cilmi being the top song released this century is a surprise still, though I do admittedly hear it a lot this time of year.

It’s got nothing to with Radio 2 - it’s all Christmas songs played across all platforms since 2000
