Are they actually really going ahead with this as a proper single? I can't see it peaking any higher than that.

She did THAT with no streaming support rotf.gif

No streaming support? She has PLENTY of it. I've seen Smile featured very high in numerous playlists.

I honestly think this has been a bit underrated and is one of the better songs from this era (about on par with 'Daisies', maybe a little better even, would only say 'Never Really Over' was significantly better). Nothing groundbreaking obviously but it's a fun song, gives me some Bruno Mars vibes.

As far as I know it's downloads, CDs, vinyl and other formats!

Yep there's no streaming, hence events like Wildest Dreams going top 10 here and Ellie's River missing the top 100 cheeseblock.png By population, I'd guess Katy sold about 100 downloads in Scotland to be #22? Sales legend.

22nd most downloaded song of the week. It's not charting any higher because it doesn't have Hot Hits support. Not saying it'd be a gigantic smash even with that support, but it's not very fair to say the public aren't here for it when it's not even being given a chance.

I think on name alone you’d probably expect more from Katy in week one but as always there’s a chance that the song could grow in the coming weeks and not be a week one peaker. She’s actually giving promotion and radio play and streaming support could increase more as we get closer to the album release.

On name alone Katy Perry should be debuting Top 40. I know the Spotify playlists are significant but if you're an established artist, you should have a fanbase who will seek out new music from you. It's very disappointing that she seems pretty much over.

It is, but I find myself not as bothered by the floppiness as I was during Witness. Probably because that was more of a surprise as we’d always only known her as this massive #1 popstar and now I can accept she’s on the level of like Xtina after Bionic.

I can see the Xtina comparisons tbh! But Katy has actually done promo here i can’t remember the last time Xtina done any UK promo besides her tour since X Factor in 2010 like her last three albums all had nothing in terms of UK promo. Katy’s better in that sense. I guess Katy could’ve rebounded the way Gaga has but to do that she’d have had to go back to a sound what maybe she’s grown out of herself now so she’s going down the more mature route.

I still think Katy has it in her to get another smash though but it’s harder for her to rebound than it was for Gaga as she’s less versatile.

Not that i really think the song is up to much anyway, but I think we all know now that regardless if a song isn't on Hot Hits or Today's Hot Hits it's pretty unlikely to do much on streaming.

Exactly, without big playlist support there's no way to get a hit, even to go top 200 on Spotify you need 50,000 streams per day
do you think Katy Perry has 50,000 fans in the UK?
the only way to achieve that is with playlist support and random people streaming it... and big playlists support means Hot Hits + Today's Hot Hits
doesn't matter if she's in tons of useless playlists like the Pop List or whatever

you really cannot compare with the Xtina days cos back then you didn't need so many fans to have a hit

How come a song that reached 65M reach on Spotify and still has 58M reach today didn't have streaming support?

Actually, you're wrong. Based on your logic, Katy shouldn't even have 5,000 fans in the UK, as each user can give 10 streams a day on a song, so to reach 50,000 streams she would only need 5,000 fans playing Smile 10 times a day to join the Top 200.

I feel like we're missing the pretty substantial point of it not being on Hot Hits UK. It's f***ed without that, that's ALL there is to it.
