Race for hosting rights is hotting up!! I’d quite like Maastricht to get it personally. I’d just stay in western NRW in a nice hotel for half the price people are staying in the city for. And I’m looking for any excuse to visit that part of the world tbh

It has been such a long time that The Netherlands hosted, I can only assume that after much fuss and hype that lasts for the whole summer it will just end up in Amsterdam as expected.

Is it worth booking a refundable hotel now in Amsterdam for the middle weekend in May 2020, with the assumption the final will be on the 16th?

I'm really not convinced it will be Amsterdam, it's already overwhelmed with tourists and I've heard that the government wants to promote other cities. I'm hoping the love is shared around a bit, what with Amsterdam hosting a few Euro 2020 matches next June, and that they give it to Rotterdam (also have some personal bias as I want to be able to tick a new city off the list rather than visit one that I only went to for the first time last month tongue.gif)

Realistically next year is the first year since 2016 that I will be around to go (even though I didn't end up going that year sad.gif) as I'm usually away most of May for work for tradeshows but my usual work events are in March and June next year instead.

So I'm also hoping it's not Amsterdam, as I've been there before too. Maybe it's too early to provisionally book a hotel then, although I guess Amsterdam and Rotterdam aren't exactly far away from each other by train anyway.

Thought it was time to split host city discussion into a fresh green room thread!!

As well as a debate about where to host it, dates have to be decided. The final is expected to be either the 16th or the 23rd May - a week later is the UEFA Champions League final, and having it a week earlier would mean that semi-finals (live + the jury rehearsals) clash with Remembrance and Liberation Day in the Netherlands.

The expected dates for the F1 in Zandvoort is either 1-3 may or 8-10, So i fully expect a 23rd of may final

Tbh The Netherlands is so small it probably won't even matter where they host it, you can get there by train.

It'll probably be Rotterdam though. That'll give the most benefit to a dutch region, whereas Maastricht will have limited benefit cause of belgium and Germany.

I don't think the others are considered much of an option (Utrecht, Den Bosch and Arnhem

EBU has already preferred Maastricht apparantly. What a mess since the bidding is until the 11th of july. They like the symbolism of Maastricht with the treaty of Maastricht. Sounds a bit shady to me lmao

I’m rooting for Maastricht personally. I’m from just over the border and a chance to spend more time in that part of Germany is one I wouldn’t want to pass up

I'm hoping for Rotterdam because I really like the idea of being able to go to Eurovision 2020 on a direct train from London.

The Maastricht bid looks really fancy from what I've seen (I don't know if the details are public), I'd love it there for a multitude of reasons, not least the same reason as Suede's kink.gif, I know it's the Dutch contest but if 2020 is a big European year (what with the football being everywhere) then Maastricht would be the perfect symbolic choice for Eurovision.

Nothing wrong with Rotterdam though and I reckon that'll be the final one as from what I've gathered it seems like the Dutch prefer it.
