CLUB BIZARRE 16 : THE 70s AND THE 80s

Welcome to the voting stage of the 16th dance forum song contest. Only one of the 21 songs entered is from the 70s but I expected this to end up as a mainly 80s themed contest. I have put the songs in chronological order so when you listen to them you will be going on a musical journey through time from 1979 to 1989.

- This is an anonymous contest so please do not reveal which song you entered.
- After listening, you will be voting using the 12 point system so that's 12 to your favourite, 10 to your 2nd followed by 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 for your tenth favourite. Please send your vote by PM to myself.
- Anyone is welcome to vote. There were a few people who posted in the confirmations thread that didn't enter a song so I hope they will end up voting as well. If you are a participant and don't vote, you will suffer a 33.3% deduction to your song's score.
- You have 13 days to vote, the deadline is Wednesday 14th July at 23:59 which avoids a clash with the BJSC semi final voting deadline which is the following day.

Here are the songs:

1. Sheila & B Devotion - Spacer (extended mix)
2. Sister Sledge - All American Girls
3. Liaisons Dangereuses - Etre Assis Ou Danser
4. The Durutti Column - Never Known
5. Classix Nouveaux - Inside Outside
6. Sylvester with Patrick Cowley - Do You Wanna Funk
7. Rupa - Aaj Shanibar
8. Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force - Looking For The Perfect Beat
9. Tones On Tail - Go! (Club Mix)
10. Arthur Baker - Breaker's Revenge
11. Kazino - Around My Dream
12. Clio - Faces
13. Stacey Q - Two Of Hearts
14. Scotch - Pictures
15. Herbie Hancock - Vibe Alive
16. Baby Ford - Oochy Koochy
17. Samurai Sam - House Of Japanese
18. Coldcut featuring Lisa Stansfield - People Hold On
19. Liaisons D - Faces Of Horror
20. Wood Allen - Airport '89
21. The Beloved - The Sun Rising

Besides my own I know two of these - Spacer (which I am mildly surprised wasn't a veto!) and The Sun Rising which is almost certainly my favourite song by The Beloved wub.gif Looking forward to lots of discovery here!

The Sun Rising! wub.gif I have no idea how I will be able to rank such a classic against tracks I don't yet know but it is a wonderful choice wub.gif

I very nearly went with this absolute classic. A dance song from the 70s that inspired a #1 dance track from the 80s *.*

(I actually wish in retrospect I'd chosen it sad.gif )

FLOORED at no one recognising Coldcut tbh. That and The Beloved were standouts for me but then I feel like I've been exposed to them a lot growing up.

Spacer was discussed because of its now well-known sample, I even heard it on Radio 2 yesterday kink.gif but we didn't think it would be well remembered as its own song.

Tbf given all of these songs are over 30 years old at least, anything could've been game providing it wasn't too well known like Rockwell is.

Pretty sure I don't know any of these songs as well at least by the titles (and there are only a couple of names I recognise - one of those is for an unfortunate reason but I won't elaborate in case the person who sent them wants to remain blissfully unaware oops x).

Was a little curious about the appearance of artists named 'Liaisons Dangereuses' and 'Liaisons D' in the same contest, went down a Google rabbithole and it appears that the latter are actually indirectly named after the former! (more specifically it's named after a radio show which was also called Liaisons Dangereuses and named after the group). What are the chances ~

I know it. I know about a third of them already but that’s not too bad since the chances of people sending completely unknown tracks in this theme is more unlikely

Looking forward to giving these a listen. Am familiar with a few of the acts but I certainly don't immediately recognise anything from looking at the titles

For the listening session, I suggest we avoid football nights which leaves us with Sunday 4th, Monday 5th or Thursday 8th. Beyond that, we would be competing with the BJSC semis. A volunteer host would be appreciated. Which day would be best for everyone?

I for one don't recognise any of these (except the artist Sister Sledge *_) so really looking forward to listening!

another note here that we generally don't veto based on Artist Names, only if we think the actual song is well known. that Sister Sledge song didn't even make the top 40 and presumably will be a discovery to most people here. obvs don't try Guetta, Harris, Avicii et al though.

we've had recognisable names such as The Midnight, Kraftwerk, Armin van Buuren, Bonobo, Example, Moloko etc. before
