I'll only listen to a couple of minutes of a long song when going through, that's why plug irritates me a bit when I have to sit through a song which is basically the same for 10 minutes.

If the song is actually doing something interesting (like say Emerald Princess), I’ll of course listen to it all.
I will never listen to 10 minutes of the same 3 second loop though, with it maybe changing up to add a different 4 second loop around the halfway mark. I’ll listen to a minute and keep skipping ahead until something has changed. |

Dunno if I will enter either (not because of long songs xx), don't really have any potentials unless I dig through old ones I never quite ever liked enough to send in the past
 As for long songs, I don't sit through them all if I don't like them after a couple of minutes, my attention span isn't what it used to be for BJSC and I'm not wasting 10 minutes listening to a song that goes nowhere. Sometimes I skip through to see if it changes later on but ngl most of the time they don't justify their length. Idc if it's "not fair", if I dislike a 3 or 4 minute song I tend not to listen to it all either lmao |

Tbh I think I'm actually gonna make a quick Audacity snip of my song and cut off about the last 3 minutes anyway so that's a bit of a reprieve to anyone on plug.dj who hates long songs xx Not because I think the song is too long (it's not even my longest entry as it stands x) but just every time I listen to it I always think there's a bit a little bit before the end of the song that sounds like it would be a more satisfying / natural place for the song to end. Also the vocals in those last few minutes are very different to the rest of the song and... a bit more of an acquired taste ~
(I did have this same debate with myself when I sent Saor but ultimately didn't do that mainly because the harsher vocals were harder to snip out without it being very obvious that it was badly edited lol) I don't think this will make the song appeal any more to the types of people who generally don't like long songs though so by all means still skip it if you want to. I tried to send something more widely appealing last contest and it failed spectacularly which is part of the reason that I'm gravitating to something much more niche this time

long songs can be fabulous, but there has to be a reason for the length, mood changes, stylistic variations, building to a climax, telling a story, etc all are acceptable reasons. The same thing on a loop for 8 minutes, though, isn't hypnotic or a groove, it's lazy
I'll take 3 short fab songs instead.Maybe I'll enter the whole of Tubular Bells one day, it's just one track for the whole album, that'll sort out who REALLY is prepared to sit and listen to a long song (The single edit is perfect though, and cuts out the faffing about) |

yea like if a song is 7 minutes long but doesnt feel like it because its interesting and actually has a point to being that long then fair dos but if im bored before it even gets to the "good part" then whats the point
