Inspired by vidcapper's "Luckiest #1's?" thread & gezza76's "Furthest Races to Number one" thread...

Are there are any #2's that managed to have very high sales, or any big releases?

Wham! - Last Christmas
Dee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart (perhaps the unluckiest of all!)

Any others? ohmy.gif

Natalie Imbruglia - Torn. I don't know what beat it to number 1 but it's sold over a million, I think it's the biggest selling song ever not to reach number 1 or something, it's certainly up there!

Anyone know what beat it out of interest?

Also La Roux - In For The Kill, it was stuck at for yonks but ended up 6th(?) in the end of year charts.

And obviously Moves Like Jagger biggrin.gif

Madonna - Crazy For You: stalled at #2, then when re-released stalled at #2 again.

Also most of the songs mentioned in gezza76's latest thread. tongue.gif

That'd be Last Christmas. Torn only passed the million on download trickle sales so I'd think it's one of the lowest selling million-selling non-#1s (if that makes sense laugh.gif)

Million-selling non-#1s:
Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
Mr. Acker Bilk - Stranger On The Shore
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
New Order - Blue Monday
Oasis - Wonderwall
Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters
Robbie Williams - Angels
Wham! - Last Christmas

And I think there's one other.

Last Christmas is the biggest selling song never to reach number 1 - it sold 1,601,000 while Torn only sold 1,075,000! ohmy.gif

Oh, and Aqua - Barbie Girl beat it. laugh.gif

No it wouldn't. The vast majority of its sales were before the charts started so it is not counted as a UK million seller.

Not 'unluckiest', but I found 'Bounce' and 'Feel So Close' to be unlucky to settle for #2. 'Bounce' was set for #1 in the midweeks, but had it snatched away at the last minute. 'Feel So Close' however still sounds like a #1 to me, but was beaten by Olly Murs & Rizzle Kicks. 'Feel So Close' has done significantly better than 'Heart Skips a Beat' I'd say, so perhaps deeming it 'unlucky' is the wrong thing to do - I just find Harris unlucky in always missing out on a string of number-one singles; which he deserves.

Kate Nash 'Foundations'
Didn't it miss out on the number 1 spot by something stupid like 16 sales one week?

Didn't it become a million seller after the charts started though? ohmy.gif That's what I thought...

About 'Feel So Close' and 'Heart Skips A Beat', the latter has sold much more than the former even though the chart runs for both would suggest otherwise so I wouldn't say FSC has done 'significantly better'.

'Frisky' was #1 in the midweeks before it got overtaken by that midweek charity release as well.

Also 'Your Song' was #1 on iTunes various times over the course of three weeks but kept being overtaken by the X Factor Finalists, Nicole Scherzinger and The Black Eyed Peas.

Ellie Goulding- Your Song, was number 3 in midweeks, but built up a huge lead on itunes again and then got to number 2, ahead of poison, loosing to X factor who had dropped to number 10 on itunes!

Oh and off topic, but Liam, I love your signature.
