Does anyone remember Bananarama attempting a world record attempt in the 1980s on children's tv, i think in the days of Andy Crane being the presenter.
Basically the attempt was to record a song, produce the single and play the record in the shortest time ever Cant remember the song. The BBC gave the disc away in a competition afterwards (it was only grooved on one side). If anyone has more details i'd be grateful. |

I dont remember this but id love to to do a bid for number 1 for been one of the longest serving bands on the planet to never have a uk number 1 single or album.

they had many singles that deserved the #1, I heard a rumour, Love in the first degree, Venus etc
at least they got a US #1 with Venus and they were part of Band Aid and Ferry Aid #1s |

Some of their earlier stuff deserved it more (1982-85) like 'Robert De Niros Waiting' or 'Cruel Summer' the later of which is arguably their best known track 40 years later.

I much prefer their SAW songs, the early songs were nice too
Pretty sure Venus or Love in the first degree are their most popular songs for what I can tell, 99% of the people think Cruel Summer is an Ace of Base song |

I just think their saw era was quite trashy minus 'Venus' and 'I Want You Back'. Their earlier stuff was a lot more new wave/punk pop nearly. Remind me a lot of the Sugababes the way their career panned out.
And you can even tell from the girls themselves they weren't comfortable with it. This post has been edited by Steve201: 4th August 2020, 10:56 PM |

Bananarama had some cracking tracks Robert De Niro's waiting, Venus and I want you back were all screaming to be #1's.

And the DIY advert anthem they did with Fun Boy Three - It Ain't What You Do was good. Yes their earlier songs were better in general. |

There was a few songs such as i want you back, love truth and honest, robert de niro and preacher man that i would have liked number 1 for them, whats worse they never had a number 2 either although for years i was sure Help went to number 2 for them when actually 3 is its peak. Likewise with their albums, their original greatest hits was there highest peaking album at number 3.

Long Train Running topped my charts, and Cruel Summer, I Heard A Rumour, Only For Love, Venus should have topped my charts.
Saw them in the 80's and they were fab, saw them on their reunion tour 2 or 3 years back and they were still fab. |

After giving it some thought, I reach the conclusion their best song is I Heard a Rumour
SAW at their best when they were still good, the song deserved better cos it went top 20 in the UK but missed the top 10. Did much better in the US where it peaked at #4 |
