    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 74 otherwise known as Now 74 was the final volume released in the 00’s. It contained 45 tracks and 11 UK #1 singles — equalling the record set by the very first volume in the series. The artists we were hearing for the first time in the series and would hear more from were Cheryl Cole (as a lead solo artist), Michael Bublι, Jason Derulo, JLS, Chase & Status and Mumford & Sons.

A substantial number of songs impacted the charts during this era, which is why some very noteworthy artists were omitted which included #1 singles from Alexandra Burke and X Factor Finalists 2009. As well as these hits, there was simply no room on this volume for Britney Spears, Westlife, Leona Lewis, Biffy Clyro, Peter Andre, The Veronicas, Booty Luv, Flo Rida, Basshunter, Jordin Sparks and many others too.

There were a few surprising artists to feature on this volume which had never featured previously and would not appear again. This astonishingly included soul queen Whitney Houston along with Mini Viva, Young Soul Rebels, Mr Hudson (as a lead artist), The Ian Carey Project, The Temper Trap, Muse, Cobra Starship and Esmιe Denters.

Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good
What’s nice about this volume is a more robust use of colour. Not an extravagant display of multiple colours, but rather a simple, crisp and sharp image featuring various shaped snowflakes and ice crystals, very fitting for the season of release.

Disc 1 Favourite: The Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
This was the anthem to kick start a night out and put me in the mood! Great single from the Black Eyed Peas and a much deserved UK #1 single.

Disc 2 Favourite: Dizzee Rascal – Holiday
Another single produced by Calvin Harris, and this one was a big favourite at the time, sending good positive vibes of what a British tourist holiday is expected to be! Another great #1 single for Mr Rascal.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind 4:37 {2}
2. Alexandra Burke feat. Flo Rida – Bad Boys 3:26 {1}
3. Britney Spears – 3 3:25 {7}
4. Peter Andre – Behind Closed Doors 3:23 {4}
5. Jordin Sparks – S.O.S. (Let The Music Play) 3:32 {13}
6. Flo Rida feat. Nelly Furtado – Jump 3:28 {21}
7. Wale feat. Lady Gaga – Chillin’ 3:16 {12}
8. Dizzee Rascal – Dirtee Cash 4:21 {10}
9. Tinchy Stryder – You’re Not Alone 3:51 {14}
10. Madonna – Celebration 3:24 {3}
11. Lady Gaga – LoveGame 3:35 {19}
12. Booty Luv – Say It 2:59 {16}
13. Armand Van Helden & A-Track pts. Duck Sauce – aNYway 3:25 {22}
14. Calvin Harris – Flashback 3:47 {18}
15. Basshunter – Every Morning 3:15 {17}
16. Example – Watch The Sun Come Up 3:24 {19}
17. Editors – Papillon 5:24 {23}
18. Paramore – Ignorance 3:38 {14}
19. The Veronicas – 4Ever 3:29 {17}
20. Miley Cyrus – Party In The U.S.A. 3:21 {11}
21. Paloma Faith – New York 3:38 {15}
22. Nneka – Heartbeat 3:09 {20}
----------
Total time: 1:19:47

Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good
What I like about this volume is the clear variety and seeing some names for the first time after not ever seeing them feature before, such as Whitney Houston and Muse. The artwork is simple and effective. The only gripe is with some of the omissions which are of high quality this era, it was just an impossible task deciding wha would feature and what would not. But a very good volume to end this decade with nonetheless.

Great edition, and soundtracks my move back from Australia to England so it's special in that respect also.

Disc one rank:
1. The Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling [David Guetta on great form here, overplayed but great tune]
2. David Guetta feat. Akon – Sexy Chick
3. La Roux – Bulletproof
4. Pitbull feat. Nicole Scherzinger – Hotel Room Service [the non-Nicole Scherzinger version tho, her addition is pointless]
5. Jay Sean feat. Lil Wayne – Down
6. Jason Derulo – Whatcha Say
7. Taio Cruz – Break Your Heart
8. Little Boots – Remedy
9. Mini Viva – Left My Heart In Tokyo
10. Chipmunk feat. Dayo Olatunji – Oopsy Daisy

Disc two rank:
1. deadmau5 feat. Rob Swire – Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff [no contest, an all time great and best on the entire comp]
2. The Ian Carey Project – Get Shaky
3. Dizzee Rascal – Holiday
4. The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition
5. Chase & Status feat. Plan B – End Credits
6. Calvin Harris – Ready For The Weekend
7. Muse – Uprising
8. Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love
9. Jay-Z feat. Rihanna & Kanye West – Run This Town
10. Shakira – She Wolf

Worst five:
1. Alesha Dixon – To Love Again [only song I properly dislike here, it's so boring and she does not have the voice to carry it]
2. Tinchy Stryder feat. Amelle – Never Leave You [sounds really dated]
3. Emsιe Denters – Outta Here [rest here aren't bad but end up at the bottom of my rank anyway due to the overall high quality]
4. MIKA – We Are Golden
5. Just Jack – The Day I Died
