Can't say I'm excited about any of the new additions this week really.

Really sad to see P!nk booted off after just three weeks on the C-list sad.gif I suppose it's getting to that time in her career where she no longer gets R1 support. I imagine she'll be over to R2 next era.

Weird how they've removed Katy Perry already, yet kept on both the Miley and Little Mix flops. They normally love Katy!

Michael Kiwanuka getting his first playlist entry since 2012! Presuambly that's the year he won the Sound Of?

Also, I find it really strange how they’ve playlisted Antisocial out of all the Ed tracks. I’d have thought they would have playlisted Take Me Back To London considering that’s the one that’s going to be charting today.
A shame to not see Ritual playlisted, it surprises considering how much they normally love Rita. Also, I hope Maisie Peters gets moved up to the B List next week although I don’t think it will! Such a beautiful song.

L Devine!!! Yaaas

Posted by: gavindeejay Jul 19 2019, 09:35 AM

Avicii thrown out already! sad.gif

Good to see High Contrast added!

Posted by: Bjork Jul 19 2019, 09:36 AM

boo they removed most of the best songs on the list and replaced them with meh songs

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 19 2019, 09:36 AM

Aww, looks like it really is over for 'Never Really Over'. sad.gif

Posted by: gavindeejay Jul 19 2019, 09:37 AM

Katy Perry had 7 weeks. That's good considering people weren't expecting them to continue supporting her

Posted by: coi Jul 19 2019, 09:38 AM

Well this isn't particularly good. Too many meh new adds and removing a lot of good tracks a bit too early.

Posted by: TS0301 Jul 19 2019, 10:22 AM

Completely disagree with everyone else. Loving all of these week’s new editions, particularly happy for L Devine and Gerry Read and DJ Koze!

Posted by: danG Jul 19 2019, 10:31 AM

well R1 are cancelled. mad.gif

Posted by: M4NG0 Jul 19 2019, 10:46 AM

On a more positive note, this is the 5th consecutive week they've added something straight to the A-list biggrin.gif

Posted by: sammy01 Jul 19 2019, 10:49 AM

Little Mix record label seem to have wasted a huge amount of money on this single. So much effort and payola for a song the public clearly dislikes.

Sam Smith seems to have revived himself the last 18 months as he was verging dangerously on radio 2 only fodder.

Isn't that what he's always been, a couple of collabs aside. But yes, I glad he's finally making music for us rather than our aunts.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 19 2019, 11:52 AM

I can hardly believe how much he's improved from 'Promises' onwards, as someone who really fiercely disliked him and pretty much everything he'd done prior to that point I must say everything since has been top notch!

Posted by: lewistgreen Jul 19 2019, 12:12 PM

High Contrast is a great addition! Some good ravey vibes in that track

Posted by: Bjork Jul 19 2019, 01:29 PM

Gerry Road is kinda meh, could have added Tiesto -Ritual instead

'Antisocial' is the actual single - I hope it can overtake the other album tracks and get its own time in the chart, I really like 'Take Me Back To London' too but 'Antisocial' is easily one of the 2 best songs on the Ed project for me (along with 'Cross Me').

Very average week for new additions otherwise (from what I've heard), I generally really like Octavian but not a fan of this song from him. The Gerry Read and High Contrast songs are decent though.

Aside: Fredo's name is misspelt in the OP tongue.gif

OMG L Devine cheer.gif . I though she was very under the radar, especially for Radio 1, glad to be wrong.

Nice to see Michael Kiwanuka added too, solid adds this week overall.

Really? I always thought his last album was massive, maybe that was just with me lol. Anyway Money is great!

Those are some iconic songs *.*

Posted by: T Boy Jul 20 2019, 12:28 PM

Anastacia’s Sick & Tired is a glaring omission there. I’ve never understood why they wouldn’t playlist her when she was popular.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jul 20 2019, 12:32 PM

I've heard of a grand total of 3 of those retro songs tongue.gif

Over 20 tracks in the A & B lists - class!

Posted by: Bjork Jul 20 2019, 01:16 PM

amazing retro chart, love most of them, so many great artists that R1 doesn't support anymore (Snow Patrol, Damien Rice, Ash, Keane)

surprised they playlisted Air, the French band

They playlisted several of their singles, including "All I Need", "Playground Love", "Radio #1".

guess probably also Sexy boy
and Kelly watch the stars, which were their biggest hits

The Paloma Faith of her era. Though I thought her first two eras was supported back in 2000-2002?

No way, I’m 19 and I know at least 17 of those. I even have the singles of These Words, My Happy Ending, See It in a Boy’s Eyes, The Show and Some Girls tongue.gif

I’m surprised to see Kristian Leontiou playlisted, I was really into Some Say a few months ago after finding out Meredith Kercher was in the video ohmy.gif

Posted by: SKOB Jul 20 2019, 04:05 PM

Air was a Radio 1 staple back in the day and very successful in the UK.

Posted by: Bjork Jul 20 2019, 04:35 PM

pretty weird to me that they supported AIR, which were amazing but pretty alternative,
but then didn't playlist Anastacia
guess cos of her age? (we all know how ageist R1 can be)

Did they really never playlist anything by Anastasia? I remember them snubbing 'I'm Outta Love' but thought they might have playlisted 'Left Outside Alone'?? Do they ever play her as part of their Greatest Hits?

Posted by: T Boy Jul 20 2019, 05:55 PM

Anastacia’s age probably didn’t come into it given that at the time she claimed to be 5 years younger than she was.

They do play her music when they do retro features though.

Are they doing summer mixes this year?

No idea. It looks as if ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ has replaced it this year as it’s now being featured on Clara’s show between 10am and 11am.

Loved looking at the 2004 Radio 1 playlist. I think these would make a great addition to the retro forum?
