We're getting to the end of May, and yet there have only been 6 so far - how many do you think there'll be for the full year?

At this rate we may get even fewer than the 17 we got in 2007. I predict 16

I've gone for 15. Looks like we'll have to change the points system for '#1 of the year' again.

I've gone 12 or less. If we don't get another one-week #1 by the end of the year, it will be 1993 all over again

And 1971 and 1992 each share a joint record of least one-week #1s with 0

Streaming certainly offers a better chance of high sustained sales, as unlike paid-for sales, you can contribute to a song's chart position every week for months.

I'd say 1952 : one. If we're going down that route I'm going to say any year before 1952: zero "all over again" makes it sound like it will be an ordeal if that happens. I think having to read Hadji's posts is more of an ordeal |

16, seeing as there'll probably be a few more one-week #1s towards the end of the year (the token Xmas charity hit, Harry Styles' debut single, etc.) alongside the now average 3-5 week runs.

So far this year its 5, Justin Bieber is a carry over from 2015 as he returned to #1, I would probably stick my neck out and say around 14.

I think there will be around 15 in total, that seems to be the average on the streaming chart.
Personally I think the ideal number is somewhere between 20 and 25 with a fast moving chart beneath them - that seems to be about the average on my personal chart and is just over 2 weeks for each #1 roughly (allowing for variations obviously). I know some like the fast turnover of number 1s that 2000, 2014 and 1999 brought but the thing I liked about the pre-1995 era was the whole number 1 on my birthday thing actually meant something as opposed to what record company had bought the rights for #1 that week. Looking at debuts at number 1, we have had only 1 so far. The last time we had just 1 all year was 1992 and there were just as mentioned already 12 number 1s that year; the joint second-lowest on record for a full year. |

Also that Kungs track if that catches on, could have a long run at #1, it just sounds like a summer smash, if the track gets there.

^ what a banger!
on current form ~15, however #1 turnover in 2003, 2008 and 2015 increased somewhat in the second half of the year after deceptively slow starts, so it could be higher than we think~ |
