BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ James Arthur - Back from the Edge

so this has done surprisingly well on iTunes, and it does sound like something that would be a big hit here, possibly his biggest since 'Impossible'. Similar to Ed Sheeran, Jamie Lawson, Calum Scott. It's not *bad* but it's not brilliant either, a bit too nondescript.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 12 2016, 11:45 AM

I just listened to this for the first time... it's really basic (and borderline inept) lyrically.

Posted by: Mango Sep 12 2016, 01:25 PM

I agree it's a bit lyrically basic, but there's something quite nice about it. It sounds like the sort of thing that could do well, I guess it just depends how much radio support he gets this time round.

Posted by: pippa Sep 12 2016, 05:01 PM

Number 30 in the released mid-week information.

Posted by: dandy* Sep 12 2016, 06:04 PM

I think this is a really clever choice of single.

It's a simple song that could easily be an Ed Sheeran track or something, i.e. it is everything that isn't associated with people disliking him, it's not showy nor too bold and confident and I think it could end up being a move that saves his career.

Posted by: J▲hq Sep 12 2016, 06:26 PM

Ignoring some of the lyrics, I'm quite liking this on first listen, there's something sweet about it. I'd like it to have sustained success if only for the surprise factor of James Arthur having a hit in 2016.

Posted by: Ryan. Sep 12 2016, 09:39 PM

I really like this too, definitely very hit-worthy. Even though he has moved to another Sony label, he is still on very good terms with Syco I think as he was at their summer party last month - I remember seeing him in a picture with Ella Henderson. So I wouldn't rule out an X Factor performance if this can continue to have momentum over the next few weeks until the live shows begin.

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 12 2016, 11:33 PM

Now #4 on iTunes, if he gets some promo and radio play this could easily go to #1... The fact that it's climbed all week makes me think this is going to actually be a hit and stick around for a while. I bet Simon Cowell is wishing he didn't drop him so quickly as if this does become huge he'll be the first dropped XF winner to go on and actually achieve a hit!

Posted by: Ðøßßø Sep 16 2016, 07:51 PM

It's tolerable I suppose. Definitely far superior to having Ed Sheeran back in the charts...

Posted by: ___∆___ Sep 16 2016, 08:04 PM

Coming for the Chainsmokers!

Who would gave thought there would only be 9k difference between Gaga and James with their comeback singles!

Posted by: jakewild Sep 17 2016, 01:12 PM

this rly is just ed sheeran filler ain't it

impressive how he's doing nonetheless tho

Posted by: jakewild Sep 17 2016, 01:13 PM

/ is he pop?

Obviously the success of this has shocked even his record company as they have brought forward the release date of his album to October 28th.

Posted by: leewallace Sep 23 2016, 05:02 PM

Well he's resigned for SYCO.

This is going to be huge, I'm guessing it will be number one next week and spend the next three months in the top 10 especially considering he will have an X Factor performance.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 23 2016, 05:03 PM

I'd say the album has been moved to the date of when his X factor performance is - if the lives have stated by then?

Posted by: Ryan. Sep 23 2016, 05:04 PM

Yep by October 28th they will already be on live show 4 that weekend, surely guaranteed to be performing that weekend now!

Posted by: leewallace Sep 23 2016, 05:11 PM

Nicole Scherzinger better steal a duet !

I can't believe how huge this album campaign is going to be, so much more successful than the last one, I could NEVER have predicted this. The song is incredible though <3

Posted by: Jandeep Sep 23 2016, 05:27 PM

So is he back with Syco or another label, If he is back with Cowell then is this a first time that he has resigned an XF act?

It does sound quite similar to 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' in most parts of the song.

Posted by: Jandeep Sep 23 2016, 05:36 PM

I wonder if Union J can make a similar comeback, they almost did it 2 years ago and they have been working with top producers in LA on new material.

Posted by: Mack Sep 23 2016, 05:39 PM

I'd be surprised if Union J had an similar comeback to James Arthur. Although anything can happen.

He's back with Syco in the UK. I believe he signed to Columbia Germany who presumably had some sort of deal to distribute his music around the world through the parent company (Sony)?

Quite remarkable this turnaround in the last two years!

Posted by: twentyonehorrors Oct 28 2016, 07:29 AM

Album's out today - already #1 on iTunes!

Posted by: Dobbo Oct 28 2016, 09:04 PM

Well he always said he cared more about albums than singles & he released his last one on a VERY unideal week going up against Eminem & Tinie Tempah so all the best for him this time round.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Oct 29 2016, 11:47 AM

Had a listen to his new album and it's very good his voice sounds STUNNING throughout of it and there's some good songs on there as well . The Album is doing pretty good on iTunes as well number 1 on UK iTunes and top 40 on US iTunes ohmy.gif

Let Me Love the Lonely is the next single but the version will be different as it will feature Nicole Scherzinger.

James Arthur is after James Corden show now also booked for Ellen and Jimmy Fallon show in USA.

James Arthur SYWLG continues to climb on USA charts. And is still in top 10 on USA ITunes charts!

James Arthur will, after his current UK tour was sold out in 10 minutes, soon announce new UK Arena tour for November.

James Arthur will in April release new single called Can I Be Him, which will be promoted in UK and USA.

James Arthur will in summer join One Republic on North America Arena tour for over 40 sold out concerts.

Considering he was absolutely nowhere to find less than 1 year ago... (And with X Factor winner "curse"...)

I think he made one hell of a comeback.

Posted by: Steve201 Mar 26 2017, 12:39 PM

Are you his promo manager lol?

Posted by: Tombo Apr 20 2017, 09:36 AM

He is doing amazingly, this is all such good news. I love him and I hope to see him live at some point!

http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/james-arthur-is-being-sued-for-copyright-infringement-by-the-script__22967/

QUOTE
Former X Factor winner James Arthur is being sued by Irish band The Script over his 2016 comeback single Say You Won't Go.

In a civil suit, Richard Busch from firm King and Ballow, the attorney who successfully sued Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over Blurred Lines on behalf of Marvin Gaye's estate, said that Arthur's song infringes on the copyright of The Script's 2008 single, The Man Who Can't Be Moved, which was written by band members Daniel O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan, with songwriters Andrew Frampton and Stephen Kipner.

In the suit, which was filed on behalf of The Script yesterday (21 May), Busch argued that Arthur has made over $20 million (£14.8m) from Say You Won't Go, which spent three weeks at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart in 2016. The suit also names the song's co-writers, Neil Ormandy and Steve Soloman, as well as Sony/ATV Publishing, Sony Music, Columbia Records, Ultra International Music Publishing, Third Verse Music Publishing and Kobalt Music Publishing.

In a statement delivered to Billboard, Busch argued that Say You Won't Let Go acted as a second wind for Arthur's career, which had stalled following his 2013 self-titled debut album.

"It’s widely known Mr. Arthur was dropped by his record label for public controversies, which caused a break in his career," Busch said. "It wasn’t until the release of Say You Won’t Let Go that he achieved worldwide success."

According to TMZ, the suit also alleges that Arthur approached The Script's front man Danny O'Donoghue in 2014 asking whether they could collaborate on a song together. The request was apparently denied.

Following the release of Say You Won't Let Go in 2016, The Sun noted the similarities between the two songs and reported that The Script were planning to sue.

Arthur then told the publication that nothing ever came of that, suggesting that there was "no case". "It's 2017, there's only seven notes in music," he said. "Every blues song sounds the f***ing same. People get a bit wound up about these things for no reason."

According to Busch's suit, The Script are seeking statutory damages over the track, as well as an accounting of all streaming, distribution, publishing and touring revenue.

:')

about time they sued! laugh.gif

I really don’t see the need tbh . I mean the songs have similarities but there not THAT similar or identical that there needs to be a lawsuit .

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn May 22 2018, 11:36 AM

Let the battle over which is the lowest denominator commence!

Posted by: ElectroBoy May 22 2018, 12:17 PM

The Script must be struggling for monies

Posted by: Cqmerqn May 22 2018, 01:19 PM

Good for them!

Posted by: Ronald McJackson May 22 2018, 05:27 PM

That is completely ridiculous, the songs are distinct.

Posted by: mdh May 22 2018, 07:23 PM

Think The Script are a bit desperate after 'Freedom Child' flopped ;o

I said it myself back then.

Still think they sound very similar.

That will be interesting to follow in regards to the lawsuit.

Posted by: Kath May 23 2018, 01:01 AM

Both songs are a bit 'meh' anyway.

Acoustic version of ‘Train Wreck’ out today and original added to Apple Music’s Today’s Hits playlist so seems it’s properly being pushed now.
