My gosh!! I remember absolutely adoring this when it came out, was sure it was going to be a huge hit. As time has gone by it hasn't aged as one of my favourites at all, yet if it randomly comes on I can't help but belt it out haha

Melanie C - Here It Comes Again - The beginning of her downfall (solo career wise), wasn't the strong comeback single we needed and doesn't compare to any of the 'NS' singles, and its crazy that this sold less than all of them even 'ITWM' which only managed a #18 peak, (those X-Mas sales helped with a not bad #53k for a low top 20 single). She waited way too long to release a follow-up and sadly everybody forgot about her, and to put it simply this or the follow up just didn't cut it, plus those terrible early 00's sales didn't help matters.
I always wished that 'The Sea' was released back then instead of 2011, and maybe could have continued her solo success for a couple of more years ('Think About It') could have definitely fared better back then than this (along with 'Weak' & 'Burn' as follow ups). Maybe if 'HICA' came out in 2001 or even 2002 along with the album, then it may have done better, because it sounded more like from that time, as by 2003 it sounded out of date. |

I guess we just have no idea how big the boost will be to their catalogue come the tour. Also what their plans are post tour.

Melanie C - Reason, her second album, was released 16 years ago this week! (10th March 2003). It charted at #5, and to date it is the last solo album by a Spice Girl to chart in the UK Top 5.
It was for sure a huge step down from the quality of Northern Star, but in its own right I don't think it's as bad as some fans make it out to be, it's ok. My favourite album track is 'Positively Somewhere'. The album cover is one of my least favourite Spice artworks. I've always disliked that 'Reason' isn't printed on the front cover, because it just gives the impression that it's a self-titled album to me. I'll always dislike the strangely photoshopped stomach/waistband too. Just... not good. |

How could anyone at virgin and Melanie herself release this after NS . It is knowhere near as good , first week sales were decent but then it bombed. The material was not
Good enough . Lots of fans think releasing years after NS was the issue , this is slightly true but the album quality is poor. It is very dreary , it took me over 10 years to appreciate. |

I never ever noticed the stomach waistband thing until you just pointed that out Jay and now I'm wondering how on earth I never noticed!!
I genuinely do really like this album, it's very consistent (bar Soul boy which is a bag of crap) however it's not at all commercial and was a huge step down from Northern Star. I don't understand why she didn't collaborate with the same producers as her first one when that worked out so well. I do think it could have sold slightly better had it been released in 2001 instead of in 2003 the wait was too long, but it was never going to sell much more it just wasn't strong enough compared to her previous material. There was no NBTSA or ITTY or NS on this record. I am slightly shocked by On the horizons poor performance though I thought it was a pretty solid single. |

The album that really changed it all for her. It is not a good album, but it does have some stand outs. Home is gorgeous and so was Wonderland, Reason, Positively Somewhere (although a bit off...) but the rest just kind of sits there.
Soul Boy is her worst song. Never understood either why she didnt collaborate again with at least some of the NS producers and instead focused on really mediocre talent. Oh well.. |

I mean she worked with William Orbit why on earth didn't she work with him again? Also Rick Nowels did amazing work with her Northern star, Closer, I turn to you, Feel the sun. Then Hex Hector did an incredible remix of ITTY like get those people back already!! |

Also agree with you that era did produce some amazing songs. Home is stunning as is Positively somewhere, reason, wonderland and I love you without trying I also thought that I want you back from the Northern Star era would have worked nicely on this album.
