I always support Marina tracks in the final so I'm very pleased to see Primadonna getting a new peak! And I agree, Taylor should be doing better with Blank Space, it's gorgeous.

Yay this is back!

Great to see 'Changed the Way You Kiss Me' finally make top 100 and 'Release Me' finish in the top 100 too (though I'm surprised she only peaked at 64, I thought the song was much more loved here). Yay for a new peak for 'Rockabye' too and 'How Deep Is Your Love' only falling a little bit.

Rockabye is consistent eh.

That peak for Primadonna is too low still!

76 - 84 - 2012 Azealia Banks - 212 ( 50 - 26 - 27 - 54 - 120 - 84 - 76 ) 163
75 - 206 - 2012 Disclosure (feat. Sam Smith) - Latch ( 102 - 71 - 46 - 86 - 149 - 206 - 75 ) 163
74 - 62 - 2016 Weeknd (feat. Daft Punk) - Starboy ( 86 - 62 - 74 ) 165
73 - NE - 2018 Ariana Grande - God is a woman ( 73 ) 170
72 - 212 - 2014 Mr. Probz - Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) ( 193 - 381 - 208 - 212 - 72 ) 170
71 - 146 - 2010 Edward Maya (feat. Vika Jigulina) - Stereo Love ( X - X - 269 - 179 - 171 - 134 - 144 - 146 - 71 ) 171

Starting this section is my #1 grand final vote and one of my all time favourites 'End Credits', which has proven its huge 2017 finish wasn't a total blip by making the top 100 for a second time in its final year *.* It's been a long journey; the first year, it came 41st in its year nominations round tied with an Alcazar song I've never heard of, and over the years it most often ranked in the 200s. I could try to take credit in that I wasn't here and/or participating in the earlier years, but I only barely knew the song back then anyway.

Foster The People's alt crossover favourite 'Pumped Up Kicks' has impressively remained in the vicinity of the top 100 almost every year, and is back in the top 100 for once while..... not a single other song of theirs was in play whatsoever this year ohmy.gif I think I'm the only person who likes their later work more. Stream their bizarre banger 'Loyal Like Sid & Nancy' or the trippy 'Pseudologia Fantastica'. Summer smash 'This Girl' may have been about 2 years behind the main deep house wave, but it was one of the biggest hits and I feel it's continually gotten even better with time, and it climbs 9 spots for the second year in a row. #15 in 2026? Cookin' On 3 Burners can consider themselves lucky in that if only their original track existed, this would be its last eligible year; maybe Kungs should do a whole set of 10th anniversary remixes to prolong other songs' lifespans.

It's a double appearance for Disclosure here with both of their first 2 hits falling on the good side of their topsy-turvy runs, including a new peak for 'White Noise'. Both are easily their most popular songs here as their next highest is 'You & Me' at #346 (though a new peak too!), but maybe they'll have a new partner next year with that Khalid song being one of their biggest hits? I somehow doubt it. 'Latch' also ranks as Sam Smith's highest song, but if they're too tame for you even on a rare non-ballad, then I'm sure you'll find some relief in '212' in between. 'Starboy' slips a little but justifiably remains The Weeknd's highest song, with 'Love Me Harder' his only other in the top 200.

Ariana kicks off the top 5 highest 2018 debuts with the second 'Sweetener' single (not counting the avant-garde buzz promo single 'the light is coming') 'God is a woman', which came 4th in the 2018 round, 2 spots ahead of 'breathin'... but have we seen 'breathin' yet? thinking.gif And finishing off this set after 'End Credits' and some consistently strong other songs are another 2 of my top 10 votes... you'll never guess why I picked this section kink.gif Even as a huge fan, I'm surprised to see 'Waves' take a sudden massive jump now, as it was so huge in 2014 that it feels like there wouldn't be much room to grow. Maybe it's been a good year for dance in general... and we haven't seen any other Robin Schulz in here yet thinking.gif Even more impressive is that, after 5 years circling around #150-ish, 'Stereo Love' has made the top 100 for the first time! I love how popular it is here. I will quote the reshuffle chart again to say it was blocked from #1 there by 'All Night Long' and 'Nothin' On You', neither of which are anywhere to be seen in the top... 800. Though 'Stereo Love' hit #1 in France right at the end of 2009, its gradual international spread means it's got another year here to see if it can consolidate its success even further.

amazing to see 'Waves' crashing into the top 100, one of my absolute faves of the decade. 'This Girl' still climbing too and the two Disclosure tracks (quite apt that they're nearly together as I like them both about equally).
that's a pleasing finish for 'End Credits' too and nice to see 'Stereo Love' peak as well.

Stereo Love is one of the greats of the turn of the last decade, I've always thought it should be doing better than it has done here so VINDICATED, finally, with a top 100 place.

Stream...the trippy 'Pseudologia Fantastica'.

I can't believe you've done this to me.

Was legitimately thinking just the other day that This Girl holds up better and better over time (it doesn't feel like it was a whole 3 years ago that it was a hit though!), go that.

by the by, Stay The Night is an incredible modern disco-dance song that I've racked up so many plays of, I wouldn't even know where to begin with comparing it to End Credits though. I'm of course very glad to see the latter go out on a rather big high (plus, that chart run, I personally really love runs which have one anomalous high finish as there's always a bit of a story about how it outperformed expectations one year or the other).

Stereo Love re-peaking, whaaat? Also looking like White Noise is on trend to outpeak Latch next year! Who coulda foreseen at the time Sam Smith's meteoric rise to greater success tho while Aluna languished in comparison! A shame!

Time for my first section!

70 - 223 - 2009 Florence & The Machine - Dog Days Are Over (X - X - X - 129 - 48 - 37 - 399 - 198 - 223 - 70) 171
69 - 278 - 2015 Calvin Harris (feat. HAIM) - Pray To God (203 - 274 - 278 - 69) 173
68 - 42 - 2015 Grimes - Flesh Without Blood (258 - 40 - 42 - 68) 175
67 - 29 - 2012 Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (104 - 119 - 189 - 26 - 19 - 29 - 67) 175
66 - 105 - 2012 Porter Robinson - Language (X - X - X - X - 276 - 105 - 66) 176
65 - 23 - 2013 Bastille - Pompeii (46 - 101 - 28 - 31 - 23 - 65) 179
64 - NE - 2018 Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss (64) 179
63 - 82 - 2012 Rudimental - Feel The Love (37 - 47 - 70 - 180 - 84 - 82 - 63) 180
62 - 22 - 2017 Clean Bandit (feat. Zara Larsson) - Symphony (22 - 62) 183
61 - 371 - 2013 HAIM - Falling (X - 245 - 51 - 22 – 371 - 61) 184

70-61 is a section of yo-yos this year with only one new entry, that honour goes to one of the two Calvin Harris tracks here, One Kiss featuring Dua Lipa! The track was inescapable last summer and cemented Dua as an A-List name in the UK while returning Calvin to form after a patchy last album campaign - although I personally enjoyed it! Calvin has one track left to come this year while Dua has another two left. This also has the honour of being the fourth highest track from 2018 with only three more yet to come.

Risers in this section relative to last year include our first track, Florence's Dog Days Are Over, which moves up 150 spots from its 2017 placing (and is somewhat improbably her highest hit this year), and Calvin's other track in this section with HAIM, Pray To God, which gains a hefty new peak, over 200 spots up on its last year and over 100 up on its previous peak in its debut year. HAIM's own other track here, Falling, our highest in this section at #61 soars an astronomical 310 places - but still falls short of its previous year peak of #22, that must be nearly a record to fall 350 spots one year and then rise over 300 the very next?! It's a small gain on last year's placing for Rudimental too, and another new peak for BuzzJack fan fave Language by Porter Robinson, a track that wasn't selected as a best of year for its first four years of release but has come on leaps and bounds since first being nominated in 2016.

Much like Rudimental's Feel the Love which has only missed the top 100 once, Born to Die and Pompeii are top 100 veterans and both land nearly within the top half again this year. BTD isn't Lana's highest track this year, but unusually it's not her second highest either - it frequently jumps between those - as she has two tracks yet to come in this year's countdown. Bastille by contrast have not yet managed another cult hit the level of Pompeii - here's hoping in the next few years lightning strikes twice for them and they come out with another stone cold classic!

Our video track for this section, Flesh Without Blood, has become something else of a cult classic on BuzzJack and once again manages a top 100 placing this year. I think I may have been the original nominee of this track so it's good to see it going from strength to strength - unfortunately unlike Grimes's private life which has been one trainwreck to another in recent years, all in good fun though. The singer has recently disowned her earlier work to delve into more alternative sounds again, so it may again be a while before another Grimes track comes up to join FWB. Finally for this section we have what's inexplicably Clean Bandit's second highest, and Zara Larsson's highest track in this countdown, Symphony. It's a song I've always found extremely overrated and while sweet, does not play to the greatest strengths of either the group or the featured artist. (Before we even get into how the title is a little on-the-nose for a group whose entire M.O. is blending EDM with classical instrumentation...) Justice for I Miss You, Baby, and Solo in 2019 please!

Amazing progress for 'Language' and 'Pray To God'! Great to see 'One Kiss' debut highly too, hopefully it holds up well in future years. Shame 'Symphony' couldn't hold up in the top half of the finalists but 62 isn't bad.

Incredible for both Language to have gotten a placing worthy of it eventually, such a classic, I’ve had more and more appreciation for it over the years.

I feel we’ve made Flesh Without Blood into a semi-classic itself. Huge song for the alt scene and I’m always pleased to see more of those in here.

back to me again!

60 - NE 2018 Ariana Grande - breathin ( 60 ) 186
59 - 27 - 2012 David Guetta (feat. Sia) - Titanium ( 7 - 17 - 33 - 23 - 34 - 27 - 59 ) 186
58 - 67 - 2010 Lady Gaga & Beyoncé - Telephone ( 26 - 23 - 38 - 45 - 44 - 37 - 35 - 67 - 58 ) 186
57 - 58 - 2011 Adele - Rolling In The Deep ( 8 - 18 - 24 - 51 - 43 - 39 - 58 - 57 ) 187
56 - 17 - 2015 Years & Years - King ( 19 - 53 - 17 - 56 ) 190
55 - 37 - 2009 Little Boots - Remedy ( 45 - 50 - 84 - 150 - 83 - 119 - 56 - 60 - 37 - 55 ) 192
54 - 156 - 2015 Taylor Swift - Style ( 194 - 145 - 156 - 54 ) 192
53 - 109 - 2017 Avicii (feat. Rita Ora) - Lonely Together ( 109 - 53 ) 193
52 - 48 - 2017 Dua Lipa - Be The One ( 48 - 52 ) 193
51 - 52 - 2012 Rihanna - Diamonds ( 238 - 166 - 69 - 264 - 111 - 52 - 51 ) 193

Into the 60-51 section, we have one new entry & three songs reaching new peaks!

Kicking off this section we have another Ari single, a new entry from third single from Sweetener 'Breathin'! Unlike the other couple of Ari songs I've had so far, Breathin is a fave of mine and is pure pop magic <3 Easily the 2nd best song from Sweetener so I'm glad to it slay here *.* Staying on topic with recent songs, we have Lonely Together climbing into the top 100 for the first time whilst Be The One marginally falls from its peak. I've never been massive on Lonely Together so ehh at that climbing a lot, both artists have better songs that deserve to slay harder in this (at least Rita still has one song to come *.*). And I said recent songs but yeah Be The One is not recent for me x I fell in love with it in 2015, it FINALLY become a hit in early 2017 and once again is also Dua's 2nd highest song here. I think BTO is still my fave ever Dualists song, such a bop and hopefully it can re-climb in future years <3 Talking of 2015, King is having a very pleasing yo-yo run atm, being high teens one year, then mid 50's the next year. King hits its lowest position so far, falling to 56. It's a quite good song but I don't like it that much anymore & I much prefer Shine, something I never thought I'd say in 2015 when I loved King and hated Shine laugh.gif

We also have a couple of other songs reaching new peaks here! RiRi's lead-single from Unapolgetic 'Diamonds' marginally beats out its previous peak as it inches ever closer to the top 50! It's always been lower-tier RiRi for me so ehh at that also. However in much better news (& probs the reason I chose this section x), the third single from pop classic 1989, 'Style' by queen Taylor Swift climbs over 100 places this year to a new peak of 54! <3 This is so pleasing after its original peak was only 145. Style is pure pop magic and I was always shocked how kinda badly it did on here as again it's usually fighting for top 10/15 on most other forums & is regarded as one of Taylor's absolute best! Anyway amazing to see it this high and hopefully it'll continue to climb in the future <3 (even if it's my least fave 1989 single probs oops but then that's not saying much!). Also justice for Style's official chart peak of 21 ugh sad.gif

We also have quite a few songs failing to hit their older highs! Titanium falls to its lowest position during its 7 year run here, this year being the first time the former top 10 has failed to be in the top 35! Can it recover next year? Idc tbh as I'm bored to death of it nowadays oops, She Wolf is better x Telephone climbs from its big drop last year but still is in its 2nd lowest position here, I still bop to this all the time and Telephone deserves better, the video is still SO iconic! Hopefully it can re-climb to its heights for its final year next time around. Rolling In The Deep also sits in its 2nd lowest position as Adele climbs one place from RITD's low last year, I love it but I do prefer the other two 21 singles so I'm low-key surprised this one is the highest! And to round off this section we have Little Boots' absolute classic Remedy, one of my favourite songs of all time <3 <3 Remedy is the only song leaving us this time around as it ends its 10 year run in 55th place, not its best finish (that was last year's peak!) but not its worst either! Shame it couldn't improve on last year but at least it still stayed, the production is so good and that chorus goes OFF every single time <3 A classic.

ohmy.gif Poor Titanium, I once thought it'd be a winner here but I guess it's not aged quite that well.

I really don't get Style xx

But Remedy has always been a stalwart of this contest, I'll really miss it. It also really takes me back to teenage years moreso than most of the pop songs in 2009, I think I had it on repeat at one point for some reason.

^Yes. It had a collapse in its second year just like King did. Which you'll see when it shows up.

Into the top 50!

50 - 56 - 2012 Ellie Goulding - Figure 8 ( 120 - 160 - 153 - 42 - 15 - 56 - 50 ) 195
49 - 116 - 2015 Demi Lovato - Cool For The Summer ( 123 - 140 - 116 - 49 ) 196
48 - 20 - 2013 Paramore - Still Into You ( X - 125 - 116 - 69 - 20 - 48 ) 197
47 - 115 - 2010 Lady Gaga - Alejandro ( 79 - 209 - 57 - 124 - 124 - 144 - 78 - 115 - 47 ) 200
46 - 32 - 2014 Ariana Grande (feat. Zedd) - Break Free ( 143 - 124 - 21 - 32 - 46 ) 201

Shock as Iz doesn't choose Paramore for the biased music video taste and instead heads over to Ellie Goulding. With her official best song, regardless of what some silly poll in the Ellie Goulding forum says, ROTD is the TRUE arbiter of taste. Figure 8 is a triumph of electropop whirlwind and it should have been one of Ellie's biggest hits. It just about sits in the top half of the final.

A new entry into the top 100 is Cool For The Summer, which I mainly remember from a certain member of this forum (who has now abandoned us for bigger, Eurovision sites) trying to force me to listen to it for months after it premiered. I eventually gave in and liked it, quite a lot, for what it was at the time, and as by far the most appreciated Demi song now, I guess it's her signature song.

Still Into You and Break Free slide a bit from their higher peaks in the last couple of years, I guess there was a glass ceiling for them, but maybe they could rebound. I love them - in fact, the whole theme of this section is me liking pop songs a lot more than I usually do from the artist they are, and that comes into play also with Alejandro, which is one of the Gaga songs that always has to play backup to its more popular cousins but this year has done more than normal and gets into the top 50 for the first time. As it should, as it's very narrowly probably the Gaga song from her first era that I enjoy the most, its melody is great and the catchiness (and potential memery format from singing every single Hispanic name ending in 'o') is well worth a score of 200 points.
