9.4 from Pitchfork, matching NFR as the highest rated of the year and one of the highest rated of the decade

Fully deserved, a masterpiece.

Both albums sound like lost classics — and to think we got them both within a few months of each other!

Oh so this is good eh tongue.gif Will probably try and fit in a listen today, I've only heard 'Cellophane' and 'Holy Terrain'.

So first I watched that Jimmy Fallon performance & then listened to this album; really impressed with both. The performance changed my impression of the song considerably, and the album was equally as arty and interesting. Will be revisiting.

I don't know if I'll get around to listening to this album but 'sad day' is another great song (definitely hearing the Kate Bush influence on that) and I'm still loving 'holy terrain' too. Idk why but I'm not really getting into the more minimalist singles from this era, 'home with you' is decent and seems like the kind of thing I should love but it just feels a little bit too disjointed idk ~

Back when iTunes did these "stream the album for free before its release" thing (which ended in Autumn 2015. The last one I remember being Stereophonics' Keep The Village Alive). I actually streamed the album before its official release back in July 2014 (even before I became an album person). I remember being amazed by the instrumentals on this.
Recently, I listened to this again to prepare for the new album and was surprised to see the people who have produced this album. There was Paul Epworth, Devonte Hynes (a.k.a. Blood Orange), Arca and Sampha.

I listened to this yesterday like a dutiful student of music and I'm not yet 'jumping up and down' about it like most people but I honestly think it was partly the speakers I was using, they made it sound kinda rumble-y so I want to try with headphones soon. I mean it was beautiful but yeah, I blame my speakers xo. It's likely to properly grow on me. 'Fallen Alien' was a moment, and I'm still loving 'Cellophane'.

Currently #15 in the midweeks so will probably debut below the #16 peak of her first album, although that was released in the middle of summer not November.

I'm really enjoying this album! 'holy terrain' and 'mary magdalene' are sticking in my head. I agree Future isn't really necessary to the album but his verse isn't intrusive, it's still all very much about Twigs.

That’s a shame, I was sure this would be top 10 for her at least.
Not that it matters too much though. I can’t see it missing the mercury shortlist so I’m sure it’ll get a second wind then.

mary magdalene might just end up being my favourite song of the year. phenomenal.

Yep I can see this doing really well in the end of year lists too and I think that'll mean much more than commercial success.

Depending how competitive the category is this year, she maybe could be nominated for Best Female at the BRITs? She got a nom back in 2015.

I'm enjoying this even more than her debut, it's incredibly beautiful without veering into dullness.

Debuts with very similar sales to LP1 though - 3,925 compared to 4,051.

This has been soundtracking my nights since I first listened. So good to wind down to, the flourishes in the production and especially her voice just takes me away.

Two more captivating performances. Those highnotes on 'Cellophane' are insane! They sound even higher than usual. Incredible.

Finally getting around to this, making sure I hear all the albums I meant to before I do an EOY. I think this will feature highly! I definitely hear Kate's The Ninth Wave as well which is such high praise as Hounds Of Love is one of my all time faves.

Oh so, so good. Prefer the "Cellophane" performance from the Jimmy Fallon show, but still great, whilst "Mary Magdalene" with the sword dance was just captivating.

I actually prefer the cellophane on Jools, less gimmicks, more focus on the voice

she can get there in a wedding gown on a two-headed unicorn with a full circus show behind her and the best + most memorable thing by far about the performance will still be her voice...
