There's a fantastic summary of what's going on with the Spanish submissions process below:
https://escxtra.com/2016/11/16/objetivo-eurovision-who-is-in-it/
Brequette is hoping to return after submitting 3 songs - collaborations with Barei. Ruth Lorenzo originally stated she would keep her word and attempt to return in 2017 although has since reportedly ruled herself out. Despite frequent poor results, Spain do what the UK can't do and pull together strong national finals with fairly high profile names - and as a result often have high quality entries until they are ruined by staging (2015, 2016) or vocals (2013).
I always look forward to the Spanish selection and 2017 will be no different!
I liked Barei, still don't know how she took low place. Hope next time Spain will be at least in top ten.
This is the beefed up version of Brequette's entry (first revamp of the 2017 klaxon!)
Big improvement on the really limp demo version I must say!
This is SO much stronger now. By far my favourite

Sounds good
So, an update about the Spanish National Final. On Thursday there'll be a "Webcasting" Final where the winner will get a place in the Actual NF which'll take place in February. The fan favorite (and this is Spain, so the fan favorite has a better chance here than in most other countries) is this work of lyrical genius.
(Barei was eliminated in the penultimate round and the other two are far worse)
The five other acts in the lineup will be announced live during the Webcasting Final but a leaky-leak posits that it'll be these five
Maika Barbero
Manel Navarro
Mario Jefferson
Mirela
Paula Rojo
Most of them are of varying degrees of unfamous, Mirela is most known for trying her luck in previous NFs in 2007 and 2009, of which this camp classic is her most fan favored
And on the flipside, Manuel Navarro is pretty much entirely a newcomer but has record label backing and importantly, for the FransFans of the world, he has terrible hair.
(that song predates the September 1st deadline but it's pretty indicative of what we should expect)
Oh I actually discovered Manel a few days ago funnily enough I really quite like Candle although there's room for improvement. He has a new single out on Friday anyway which seems like good timing!
(oh and he has fab hair, go away Lex xx)
And LeKlein has won her(?) place in the final six. Knowing how wildcards do in these kind of things...there's surely a chance right!
The other five are exactly as rumored and a small snippet of all of them can be heard here:
I've listened to Manel's Eurovision song (it's on his VEVO now) and it's great! Definitely reminds me of various Colbie Caillat songs with its summery guitar vibes. It'd finally be something a bit different for Spain too and it's the sort of thing that could go top 10, thinking Roman Lob or Tom Dice.
From the snippets Mirela stood out but I do think Spain need something different to female power pop.
Yeah I'm really loving the Manel song right now, an improvement on Candle too! Really like the laidback pop vibes
I remain unimpressed. At this point I'm honestly expecting LeKlein to win for teh lolz.
'Spin My Head' sounds like the classic Eurovision bop I LIVE for.
Still can't get into 'Ouch!'. I'm not sure if it's the chorus putting me off, or the fact she looks like Celine Dion and Jedward's love child.
I was and still probably am expecting LeKlein to carry her momentum and win Elaiza style, however apparently in Spain it is considered that it is going to be a Manel vs Mirela showdown.
I read somewhere a while ago something along the lines of "The Spanish Eurovision fanbase is now so active and so relatively large that their favourite will be unbeatable in a televote every time". At the moment this bodes well for Mirela! Although I see a jury favouring Manel. LeKlein will probably do decently in both and may be the compromise winner.
Running order confirmed as
01. Manel Navarro - Do It For Your Lover
02. LeKlein - Ouch!!
03. Paula Rojo - Lo que nunca fué
04. Mario Jefferson - Spin My Head
05. Maika - Momento Crítico
06. Mirela - Contigo
I mean Barei did manage to win from 2nd as the 'underdog' last year so I guess LeKlein isn't dead per se but yeah, that does seem to be favoring Mirela the most.
English interview to Paula Rojo on the blog esctrevistas.
We're having an in-studio jury of music and radio professionals, no international jury this year. I can't quite predict how this will go, my instinct tells me something like this:
1st - LeKlein - 1st Vote / 2nd Jury (11 pts)
2nd - Manel - 3rd Vote / 1st Jury (10 pts)
3rd - Mirela - 2nd Vote / 4th Jury (8 pts)
4th - Paula - 5th Vote / 3rd Jury (6 pts)
5th - Mario - 4th Vote / 5th Jury (5 pts)
6th - Maika - 6th Vote / 6th Jury (2 pts)
Maybe I'm just being pessimistic because I want Mirela (or Manel as 2nd choice) to win though
They are trying their best to rig this for Manel, the jury consists of 3 radio DJs. One of which is from "Los 40" which has been playing Manel non-stop over the past few weeks. Then, if that wasn't enough, the jury will take precedence in the event of a tie after the 50/50 scores are worked out.
Leklein or nothing
I agree, I'm quite happy if they do rig it for Manel! I would of course prefer Mirela for my music taste, but Manel is a clear 2nd favourite and would mean we can avoid LeKlein (and the other horrors in this final - although I have a soft spot for Paula).
I have decided Diet Coke rather than wine will be my fuel for this, as I am already slightly tipsy.
Really good staging from Manel, it SHOULD win quite easily, but I imagine the Spanish eurogays will televote Mirela to victory.
I am strugling to get this to stream on my TV.
I think I might give up on this.
Spanish eurofans are the WORST
Wow that crowd was horrible lol
DELIGHTED for Manel though, been loving Do It for Your Lover for a little while now, so happy he's gonna represent Spain at Eurovision
I can't quite shake the feeling it was a bit of a set-up, two jurors out of three putting Manel first and Mirela last when all she needed was to come 5th rather than 6th with one of them to win. Even the female juror said her favourite was LeKlein but voted for Manel anyway.
I'm just bitter I know but for it to go exactly the way I expected it could go was a bit surprising!
I feel like I missed something by giving up on this early.
In fact those two jurors voted identically except for one slight difference which ensured LeKlein wouldn't get in range either in case of a televote victory for her!
The whole thing was an entire mess and they definitely seemed to be pulling some strings for Manel to win but I won't complain cause it was by far my favourite
Apparently the female juror said (translated): "LeKlein is my favourite but I've given my 12 to Manel because he's always on the radios"
Listening to the Spanish Eurovision version for the first time, I prefer it to the original. As it is a bit shorter it feels a bit less repetitive, it'll probably settle somewhere in the middle of my rankings so far!
Soraya and Ruth both won on ties but televoting took precedence for those two, poor Mirela having the rules changed just as she was going to finally win on her 3rd attempt! (or not as the juries would've just changed their votes )
The Spanish chaos/drama/hooliganism is here to watch if you missed it:
Yeah what a mess and I am glad I didn't watch it.
The fact one of them said that Manel has the most plays and therefore it's a better product to represent Spain. I thought this kind of fix only happens in belarussiazerbaijakraines but appaz not
#mirelaeurovision
Such a good boy this Manel is. Flipping a bird to the public and everything. Great representation.
Germany may not need to worry about getting a third consecutive last place then... Seriously, this is so truly awful.
Oh there's always an audience for this kind of thing.
I've just seen his performance and I just.... no. No. Good lord.
Anyone thinking this scandal was just a storm in an OGAE Spain teacup is wrong, the second most popular Spanish political party is now demanding answers from RTVE over Objetivo Eurovisión due to concerns of corruption with the country's national broadcaster. In the winner's press conference that took place at RTVE yesterday, Manel was left to talk to the press alone as RTVE's head of entertainment and their head of Eurovision delegation refused to appear.
RTVE's head of entertainment also has links with Manel and his promotional team. In addition, Whatsapp messages have apparently leaked between Manel and Xavi (the male juror who put him 1st and Mirela last) from two weeks ago showing their friendliness and apparently even suggesting this wasn't just a matter of Sony buying two of the jurors but a masterplan that Manel and RTVE were both in on too. Sony Music Spain apparently said they'd pay for everything so that's why RTVE were happy to go along with it we imagine.
Xavi (the male juror) was indeed attacked following the end of the broadcast last Saturday, however not by one of the Spanish Eurofans but actually by LeKlein's songwriter. LeKlein herself has posted on social media hinting that she knows it was all rigged too.
This scandal isn't over yet!
Why didn't they just internally select Manel?
It would've made sense! The only thing I can imagine is that Sony only put him forward after the lengthy Eurocasting wildcard online thing had already begun with the promise of a place in the national final so they didn't want to just abandon that, which is fair enough I guess.
Manel performed this in Ukraine's NF last night and this is Jamala during the performance:
You ain't Benjamin Ingrosso love
I think them just going back on the promise of a place in the national final was preferable to rigging the whole thing for Manel Or they should have just trusted what the result would have actually been, much much better songs than Manel that could have done very well at Eurovision have fallen at the NF stage in many countries, it is what it is.
Jamala making up for her song last year by stanning Manel *.*
Media reports coming out of Spain tonight that their Eurovision head of delegation has now resigned, two weeks before the head of delegations meeting in Kyiv where songs must be handed in. It's scandal after scandal!

So last night, Manel played a (very) small gig at the Hard Rock Café in London and I thought I'd head over, seeing as Do It for Your Lover is one of my favourite songs of the year. I had such a great time, the audience wasn't particularly substantial but it allowed for a lot of chat time, Manel and I spent a good 10 minutes talking while he had a cigarette outside He's very down to earth, we spoke about a wide range of things (travelling, work, Ed Sheeran, music in general), and he said he was very proud of his Eurovision journey although he prefers Do It for Your Lover in English and he had to translate it for Eurovision. He also came and sat with me outside the café to tune his guitar as it was too noisy inside! Was amazing getting to chat to him, and his performance was fab too. Plus I got a https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ4O2sSH56K/?taken-by=josephstyles11 of https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ4iiqiHVCl/?taken-by=josephstyles11 with him x
