Cœur poids plume Joined: 3 November 2007 Posts: 18,129 User: 4,718	Oh and these are the years that my 500 entries come from. 2007 1 2008 26 2009 76 2010 31 2011 15 2012 42 2013 90 2014 66 2015 24 2016 29 2017 27 2018 26 2019 47 So just three years, 2009 + 2013 + 2014, account for nearly half of all the tracks. I can justify it as everything was new and shiny for me in 2009 and 2012-2014 was when indie music was at its most dominant here. We also have a bit of recency bias, with lots of 2019 tracks despite it not being that much better compared to previous years, but I'll allow it.

Some of BJSC's most ~ominous~ and gorgeous music also finds itself here in the form of Stay+ and Sharon Van Etten. Finally, I've surprised myself a little with the number of R&B-adjacent tracks that have found their way into the top 100, notably Smerz, Solange, Tinashe and Kelela. Some of these DNQs were incredibly unfair!

The track is about a long distance relationship where Oostende is the midpoint and if I remember rightly, using that one perspective of the video is shot in Ireland, then the other half of the couple must be from Northern Bavaria. 49. Georgia - Started Out { Vülkyria CX // 20} 2018 vFnnxmb7Z9g 2018 was not a year in which I was paying attention in BJSC as this is the second highest entry from that year. But this ditty went readily onto my playlists and I'm glad Georgia has found a moderate amount of success since! 48. Lushington - Settle Down { Vülkyria LXIII // 6} 2014 08OGiwlv4sM A second Vülkyria track in a row whose sound could only really come from the years 2011-2015 and takes me right back to my first and second year of uni. It was tracks like this where my pals started entrusting me with music choice at pres before making our weekly pilgrimage to Killer Kitsch at Glasgow's Buff Club lmao. Thankyou for helping me navigate early adulthood x 47. Kate Bush - This Woman's Work { Bhangra VIII // DNQ} 2008 6UgAHzMg4eE I didn't even compete in this contest but I've gotta put this somewhere!!! What an ARRESTING track from an artist who has become one of my favourites in recent years. The DNQ just goes to show how trash early BJSC was. 46. I Break Horses - Faith { Cadelicia LXI // 26} 2014 BWmYpjWHT8E I had completely forgotten about this track until I was looking through my last.fm for forgotten tracks to add to this list. Gang Gang Dance - MindKilla { Fljótavík Masquerade I // 13} 2017 2R7k1_kOqvk The highest Fljótavík entry that would now be eclipsed by De Grandi's Paris Nord-Est (the only 2020 track so far that would be in the top 50). This whole album is a whirlwind of a listen and I was over the moon when this was chosen in Masquerade! 44. Alice Merton - No Roots { St. Burbia XCI // 6} 2017 PUdyuKaGQd4 In 2018 I distinctly remember dancing to this song in a Paris gay club with THE GUY SHARING MY HOSTEL BUNK BED (he was on top x) and he was wearing shorts that showed off his very nice legs. Later we kissed and spent the weekend together but I don't think he fully returned the feelings rip. 43. Route 94 - My Love (feat. Jess Glynne) { Mdiče LIX // 20} 2013 BS46C2z5lVE Oh my GOD. Similar to the Vülkyria track, this is v. first year of uni and Jess Glynne has been on a precipitous decline since then. I think I still have the MP3 of Skream's live recording of his DJ set in SubClub where you can hear my friend Lucy screaming at the beginning of this track, which is entirely understandable as it's a tune. 42. Shlohmo - Bo Peep (Do U Right) (feat. Jeremih) { Elëdan LIII // 13} 2013 3Nk0T_gnAT4 Experience has taught me that this is borderline awkward to listen to with company but it's a tune and I wish hip hop could do this well in 2020. 41. Los Campesinos! - Ways To Make It Through The Wall { Utopia XV // 22} 2009 pZcUYcIVxfM Gosh where do I even start with this band?! My most listened on last.fm and their first three albums were SO MUCH FUN. I still maintain that their lyrics are poetry.
