The Sun is reporting that Coldplay have been recording new music throughout lockdown, set to appear on their upcoming 9th studio album "Music Of The Spheres" - out this year! This matches up with the rumours that have appeared in the past, so appears to be truthful.
wasn't there some news last year that he worked with Max Martin?
Ah I didn't know that until now, but he did! Very exciting
yes please! Opinions seemed to be mixed on 'Everyday Life' but I really liked it so I'm happy for more from them.
Looking forward to this already!
for what I understood, the plan was to go more commercial on this one, thats why they reached out to Max Martin
I wonder what they'll do this time. I'm also kinda surprised they have something coming this soon too. Could be nice or something dreadful (well, the Everyday Life album had some meh moments).
Oooh I’m always up for new Coldplay!
I want them to be more commercial as they create more genius tracks when doing that plus I’d like to see if they can get a top 10 single still in a 3rd decade!
"Music Of The Spheres" has now officially been trademarked by Coldplay!
They were trending on twitter this morning as the band have landed in Korea, leading to BTS fans speculating whether a collab was on the way... not something I'd expect, but I wouldn't have predicted them collaborating with The Chainsmokers before that happened!
I really hope so! I have no idea what it would sound like but it would be a massive pop moment
(For what it's worth apparently BTS are releasing a new single on May 21st)
no please one would imagine you cannot go longer than working with Chainsmokers but alas...
Posters are appearing across the world, it's coming!!
Looks like the single is out on May 7th!
The are building the campaign at a good pace.
Should be easily another Number 1 album for Coldplay.
Greg James said this morning that Coldplay will be on his show next week!
Good sign that Radio 1 will continue to be on board, strange for a band that’s been around 22 years on their playlist. Like an anticipated new release from The Jam in 1999!
Higher Power is now confirmed for May 7th, produced by Max Martin!!! Expecting a massive banger
their Baby One More Time is coming
Releasing with a CD single! - https://ukstore.coldplay.com/collections/higher-power/products/higher-power-cd
Will Coldplay do well on streaming still? I have forgotten about their last releases?!
There's hope, well Yellow being a TikTok hit maybe has widened their audience
sure if it's a poppy Coldplay song it will do well as I guess it will get playlist support
I really-really like the title of this album!
I swear I like pop music too sometimes 😇
I'm just... picky with it 😋
I can't wait to hear this. I've gone off Coldplay the last couple of albums but Max Martin is an asbolute legend so I've got really high hopes for this
Hmmm prefer Coldplay less poppy although “Higher Power” is an interesting title. They love their spiritual references and so soon after Billie’s “Your Power”
Info from a music business mag!
-Higher Power will be pushed for 3-4 months
-Album out late 2021
-Second single out in September
-World tour to be announced with the album release
Now confirmed to be opening the Brits!
If the lead single is with Max Martin then they have gone full Pop for the album, but that's not a bad thing. He is the most consistent hit maker in the business and he himself doesn't work too much anymore so I'm fully expecting this to be a banger for 2021.
I tend to like their songs that don't actually sound like Coldplay so will probably be on board with this.
The Blinding Lights similarities are definitely there. I wonder if they've got some mad ad deal lined up too?
Anyway, as expected, sounds massively catchy.
Hmm, Sellout Coldplay is still better than most other bands selling out so I'll keep my mind open x
Everyday Life was really underappreciated though, one of their most adventurous albums in a long time.
Hmm where'd my post go??
Omg I feel like this is gonna be a moment
I do enjoy Coldplay and Higher Power is sounds decent from the snippet.
They'll also be performing it on American Idol this week - in an episode based around their music with them guest judging!
AI still exists!!!!
It was revived a few years ago, it's on Netflix in the UK IIRC
Really commercial
Out worldwide at midnight UK time!
Chris Martin just completely avoided the question of a BTS collab in an interview earlier...
The promo schedule is looking insane for tomorrow!
"Higher Power" is available now.
I like it on first listen, Coldplay in a fourth decade!
Initially I'm liking this but il need a few more listens.
Absolute trash.
Why is Coldplay in the "indie forum" because the new song 100% ain't indie lol
The song picks up a little towards the end but surely won't listen to this when I need the throwback 80s sound.
Maybe its a grower but doesn't strike me as very memorable on 1st listen
insta-added to R1's A-list today, still getting support after all these years
On first listen, it's exactly what I expected it to be given the people who were involved. Nothing groundbreaking or interesting but an okay pop song.
I spent my first listen waiting for something to happen.
It's just cheesy pop with wispy, poor vocals, repetitive, cheesy lyrics, and absolutely no depth or substance. If you went back in time and had people listen to this song, they would be hard pressed to believe that iy was the same band as the one that sang Speed of Sound, Scientist, Fix You, Politik, Square One, etc. What a fall from grace. Surely with this pop sound they are a pop band ala Westlife and not indie?
The snobbery of indie fans never ceases to amaze me. This is the music they wanted to release this time around...so they did. Cracking song and will be massive, 4th decade in the industry and still popular! Luckily the GP aren't music snobs and like music for what it is.
Really liking this on first listen!
Go listen to their last album if you want something more alternative
I don't mind the pop production. But his voice really goes right through me and it honestly puts me off more times than not.
Glad to know that everything Max touches doesn't automatically turn to gold just because he's involved. It's... fine, but it's really not that interesting. The production is nice and if this was OneRepublic it wouldn't be getting a 2nd sniff from radio.
Ah well. As long as it gives Max another smash.
I opened the Billie Eilish thread on the pop forum (as she is one of the biggest pop stars right now) and it was moved here. I think Coldplay should be on pop forum too. Decisions..
Coldplay in general aren’t pop. So they should stay here.
Yeah, you just have to look at their last album to show they're not entirely pop. They are staying here~
The song is...alright, It kind of grew on me more as it went along as it started to remind me of the wonderful Hurts Like Heaven. It was definitely missing that anthemic edge that Coldplay usually have, can't see this being a big favourite at all and I wouldn't be paying it much attention at all if it wasn't for being by them, I'm here for it being a hit though just as I always think they're past the point of relevance and then they surprise me *.
I like it, but it's a bit paint by numbers generic hit. I'm sure it'll be stuck in my head at some point though.
Its quite good. Production-wise it seems be following the 80s style trend started by The Weeknd 'Blinding Lights'.
Coldplay have kept a fairly high standard throughout their career, I have to say there is something to like on all there albums so far and going by the first single this new album will be no different.
I swear I've listened 20 times and still don't know how it goes
The music video is apparently coming at the end of this month
It’s more 80s and the Weeknd than I originally clocked. It’s growing on me a fair bit now!
Just love the production on this! The chorus is sublime.
A big Brits performance will boost this song even more. Album likely to be massive if they stick with this sound. Surprised by some of the reaction on here. Everyone I know loves it, even my wife who doesn’t like much Chorus sticks in your head.
At #3 in today's chart update
3 is great and with a brit performance I hope it's in with a chance of top 10 on Friday.
Incredible that they could debut top 10 especially in the streaming era! A remarkable feat
Definitely so fingers crossed they do, another number 1 album should be an easy achievement for them aswell.
It would make 9 #1 albums by their mid 40s! The Beatles have the most with 15, I can see Coldplay eventually surpassing that if they never break up.
I cant see them splitting or if they do it's a long time away, they seem to have got a good balance.
Fantastic opening BRITs performance!
That was a great performance! The song has grown on me massively this week, it’s so euphoric Coldplay.
ZHU remix is coming!
ZHU remix:
I want to hate this but I can't, it's so infectious ugh
New Big Weekend set is available to watch! Chris has said they recorded a performance of a new song, which can't be broadcast yet!
The BTS collab is supposedly titled "My Universe", and it's for Coldplay's album rather than theirs.
Higher Power video is out on June 8th!
The video is here!
New music soon.
Big news!
- The album will be released on October 15th
- 'Overtura' is out today, a trailer for the album
- 'Coloratura' is out on Friday, though it's not the album's second single (it's 10 mins long!)
- That second single will be released in September.
- The tracklisting has been revealed!
1. ⦵ (0:53)
2. Higher Power (03:31)
3. Humankind (04:26)
4. *✧ (00:53)
5. Let Somebody Go (04:01)
6. ♡ (03:09)
7. People of The Pride (03:37)
8. Biutyful (03:12)
9. ❍ (00:21)
10. My Universe (this is the BTS collab, though not officially confirmed yet) (03:46)
11. ∞ (03:46)
12. Coloratura (10:18)
This is feeling quite pretentious hmmmm with symbols as track names. I'm guessing that 'Higher Power' and 'My Universe' are gonna be the more commercial tracks and everything else will not be for the charts. That 'Overtura' clip was quite interesting though! Does sound quite 'spacey' which ties in well with the album title thankfully.
tbh Higher Power really grew on me so I have high hopes for this!
Some anthemic ones pls
Album is produced by Max Martin according to their Twitter! Maybe not so uncommercial as I thought?
'Coloratura' is being described as "an epic, 10-minute+ piano-led anthem."
Sounds good, some interesting sounds on there for sure.
Looking forward to it.
If they eant to be pretentious, they need to step away from the 1990s Take That pop sound.
This is absolutely stunning wow
It is amazing! It’s not the official second single though?
Ooh now THIS is what I'm talking about, Coldplay <3 Such a beautiful, epic song, think I can hear a bit of 60s/70s prog-psychedelia in there as well. Given me much more hope for the album, I did grow to really like Higher Power, but it wasn't the most inspired so pleased to see it won't all be sellout pop x
Not sure if we have a Coldplay album thread but does anyone else think they are going to flop with it? What’d their last album do?
...this is the Coldplay album thread
I just saw this, is it the next single?
I think its just announcing that she's part of it
selena and coldplay
We Are KING & Jacob Collier have now been added on iTunes as features on 'Human Heart'.
I had to look up We Are KING. They are a duo (formerly a trio) who released their debut album 'We Are King' in 2016 under the name 'King'!) And then disappeared completely until this year under their new name!
"Let Somebody Go", their collaboration with Selena Gomez, is the focus track during the album release this week on DSPs.
is this really out tomorrow? the buzz is like zero minus infinite lol
Well they've just announced a massive world tour!
It is likely because of the Ed and Adele stuff but it’ll still likely sell 50k at least next week!
brutal review on Pitchfork, worst score I've seen in a while
https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/coldplay-music-of-the-spheres/
also very bad review (2/5) on the Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/oct/14/coldplay-music-of-the-spheres-review-bts-selena-gomez
Lmao these music journalists legit know nothing of good music really.. if it's not "edgy" they don't care. This album is really fun and uplifting, I'm quite enjoying listening to it. Humankind to be a single at some point please.
Really love the Selena Gomez ballad!
they really are trying to get the casuals on board - I normally love coldplay but Chris's voice on this is very grating
I listened yesterday and enjoyed it much more than I thought with some of the reviews it's had. It's been criticised for pandering to streaming playlists but I'd say only the two singles are really, and maybe one or two others at a push.
Human Heart is lovely, Biutyful was a surprise with the chipmunk vocals but is interesting, Coloratura is the complete opposite of commercial! The riff in People of the Pride reminded me a bit of Spirit in the Sky!
It's a bit of a mixed bag in terms of sound and quality but overall strong, I was expecting lots of squelchy synths and generic lyrics from the reviews.
I think I am liking this album more than 'Everyday Life' on the whole, doesn't have as many big highlights as that did but then it does only have half as many songs (excluding the interludes) tbf, from what we do have I think it's much less patchy with the only real dud for me being 'Biutyful' (a little on the dull side overall and not a fan of the chipmunked vocal part). 'Higher Power' and to a lesser extent 'My Universe' are both good pop Coldplay tracks for me, if the whole album had just been a bunch more attempts at that with 'Coloratura' awkwardly slapped on the end then that would have been disappointing but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of diversity here, 'Humankind' sounds like a classic Coldplay stadium anthem and there are some enjoyable more leftfield moments on the tracklist with '❤️' and '♾' (as well as 'Coloratura' ofc which remains the best song on here). Even the Selena collab goes over better than I expected it to, not a huge highlight but it's a nice ballad.
‘People Of The Pride’ is another huge standout moment for me after a few spins, sounds very like Muse!
Let Somebody Go is now receiving spins on Magic Chilled so I'd imagine other stations pick this one up as My Universe fades away
That Selena duet is not for me at all. My Universe has grown on me a lot though!
They're doing a split radio release in the US. "Let Somebody Go" is the next Hot AC single, while "People of the Pride" is the next Alternative single.
High time they sorted out the next UK single and got it out to radio!
I hope Humankind is pushed!
Now would be the right time to get a single out, probably the last single from the album aswell.
Music video of "Let Somebody Go" out Monday.
About time! Most obvious single choice with perhaps ‘Humankind’ in the summer to support their tour?
Humankind would make a great next single I agree!
Video is out now!
Coldplay have a Spotify Singles release out at midnight, featuring a version of “Let Somebody Go” and... a cover of Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘n’ Night”!
A Kygo remix of 'Let Somebody Go' is out today!
The music video of "People of the Pride" is available now.
Would make a much better single!
There is a piano version of Let Somebody Go now;
i'm surprised this isn't a low top 30 hit yet.
It was a low top 20 hit when it released!
As for now, post-album singles rarely do anything unless they’re added to the big playlists.
This is an absolute dirge.
A remix from Ofenbach is out today
Biutyful is the next single
Wasn’t expecting another single. Shame it wasn’t Humankind.
This is the annoying Akonesque song, but perfect as a single I guess!
Why would they want to draw more attention to this song xx
Humankind is a clear single, not this
Video for ‘Humankind’ has dropped.
One of the best from the album, glad it has a video!
Are either of these being sent to radio?
‘Humankind’ although probably won’t do much chart wise would make a good radio single and give the album a few extra sales.
"Humankind" is the next single. It has been sent to Italian radios this week.
