BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: JosephSpears 20th August 2016, 03:46 PM

It could be close for #1 this week between both Justin Bieber tracks. The song with Major Lazer and MØ is looking for a fifth week, but DJ Snake is hoping to achieve his first EVER #1 jameela.jpg The highest new entry looks likely to come from Ellie Goulding, as well as new releases from Craig David & Sigala, Mollie King and Shawn Mendes, although it remains to be seen which songs will make the top 40.

On the album chart, Dolly Parton looks good for #1, with other new entries coming from David Brent & Foregone Conclusion, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Andre Rieu & His Johann Strauss Orchestra.

Would like to see TIEKS & CD enter the play zone (even though I'm much preferring his Hardwell collab atm), not too fussed on any of the other NE's.

And please can one or both of Mike Perry/Bob Marley sneak a week. I gave up hoping MK Piece Of Me would manage it but it did in the end so here's hoping...

Posted by: Ethan 20th August 2016, 04:06 PM

is this dj snake’s week? closing that final gap can prove rather tricky though, just ask drake’s vanquished challengers, with major lazer still holding a significant streaming advantage~

hopefully this weekend’s festival action will prove a tonic for a flatlining albums market 🙏🙏🙏

Posted by: girl_from_oz 20th August 2016, 04:14 PM

Should be an intresting battle for number one on the album charts, think Dolly Parton will edge it

Posted by: cqmerqn 20th August 2016, 04:17 PM

Top 20 for Ellie probably smile.gif

Posted by: timjimlee 20th August 2016, 04:21 PM

Frank Ocean has finally released.....a new Video!

Still talk of possibility of Album being Released this weekend, we've heard it before of course but this time it could really happen.
If it doesn't happen then it is definitely a good chance for Dolly to secure the top spot.
Bieber's Album will continue to climb back up chart on back of V Festival appearance and price reduction.

Mollie coming for a #98 smash please heart.gif

Posted by: Joe. 20th August 2016, 05:24 PM

Oh, I see they took Mollie away from the first 4 on Hot Songs, that'll explain why it stabilised and then started freefalling.

Posted by: The Hit Parade 20th August 2016, 09:34 PM

I don't feel particularly strongly about Frank Ocean's actual music, but his habit of hyping up music and not releasing it is quite annoying.

All ready at number 5 in iTunes Album chart - only David Brent to overcome out of Artist Albums.
What is a bit odd is Apple are calling the album "Blonde" but on Album cover the 'e' is missing and is simply called "blond".

This is perfect. I really hope he bags the official #1. Still can't believe Channel Orange never made it to the top but hopefully the success of this album will give CO a new lease of life on the chart. Anyone know CO's total sales?

Posted by: Bjork 22nd August 2016, 04:43 PM

Posted by: Mart!n 22nd August 2016, 04:48 PM

Finally Bob Marley top 40, the only thing, will it stay there by the end of the week drama.gif

DJ Snake is going get it I think, depends what sales are missing, or the #1 track might just increase a bit as the week goes on.

Posted by: danG 22nd August 2016, 04:51 PM

Cheat Codes are just outside at #41, would be good to see that sneak in this week alongside Bob Marley. Then we'd have 4 new entries in the chart biggrin.gif

Posted by: JosephSpears 22nd August 2016, 04:53 PM

Millionaire and The Ocean are just outside too so I think they'll both climb in at this rate! Hopefully Alarm can sneak into the top 20 too, Craig David's surely gonna drop out of it and maybe Ellie will too unless her streaming rapidly improves?

Posted by: timjimlee 22nd August 2016, 04:59 PM

I wonder whether the Top 3 in the Album chart will be the same at the end of the week (ie 3 new entries).

I can't see they will pushed too hard by the Albums immediately behind (ie one that was released in 2005 and the other in 1984!).

Posted by: girl_from_oz 22nd August 2016, 05:18 PM

Impressive by Frank Ocean especially as the album only came out late Saturday night so other albums have 2 days more sales than he has

oh great sales for Frank!
Channel Orange did 13K on week 1 so Blonde has already beaten that

also really impressed with Lisa Hannigan at #18, I might be biased cos she's my favourite female singer-songwriter, but she's a very low key so being top 20 at this stage is incredible even if she drops by Friday

also great for Benjamin Francis Leftwich, another great singer-sonmg-writer, he did pretty well back in the day with his debut, and had great songs like Atlas Hands, which was played in Greys Anatomy

me too sad.gif - but just like Michael Buble streaming has really pushed her down. It also surpises me that Ellie and Craig David will probably have no chance ob being Top 10 this week. blink.gif

It seems that - unless you have Justin Bieber on your record - it is almost impossible to get good streaming figures in your first week and going straight in to the Top 10 is becoming more and more uncommon sad.gif

To be fair, Michael Buble is more of an albums artist than singles. Same with Craig David presumably (although 4 top 40 hits this year is still good going).

Posted by: ___∆___ 22nd August 2016, 11:15 PM

So pleased that Charlie Puth/Selena Gomez will be Top 20 this week, this has turned into a real sleeper hit.

And Bob Marley currently at #39 in the mids but I think he could get pushed out again as Snakehips/Zayn seem to pick up on streams each week and Cheat Codes are likely to climb from #41. Bob Marley's chart run could literally be 75-60-43-43-43-42-41!

Posted by: JosephSpears 22nd August 2016, 11:16 PM

Bob Marley is top 40 on both iTunes and Spotify so I very much doubt he'll be pushed out!

Posted by: danG 23rd August 2016, 12:56 PM

Mollie is selling poorly compared to those around her at the moment though, she'll be lucky to stay top 100.

It seems likely Ellie Goulding will remain top 20 by the end of the week but it is looking like a poor debut for her nonetheless, perhaps a reflection of the song quality?

Hopefully Bob Marley and Cheat Codes stay top 40 by the end of the week, they're on track to do so if they keep selling as they are.

Posted by: JosephSpears 23rd August 2016, 12:57 PM

I think most of us overestimated Ellie actually, I mean sales-wise this isn't doing much different to how On My Mind did at first, once it cracks the Spotify top 50 it'll have no problems being a hit I think.

think Ellie will climb once the movie is out and her streams pick up, only Bieber seems to be able to smash from day 1 on streams

Posted by: Davidson 23rd August 2016, 01:18 PM

YES at Frank doing so well. Would love it to end up over 40k for week end but have a feeling it will end up around the 37k mark or there abouts.

Still would be almost 3X the opening of 'Channel ORANGE' whilst having two days less of the week than his debut did. Love how many people are here for him and how much his star has risen since his debut. That's what happens when you release a modern masterpiece as your first ever record.

Posted by: pippa 23rd August 2016, 01:23 PM

Great sales recovery for a number 1 album this week after the disaster that was last week.

Posted by: Davidson 23rd August 2016, 01:28 PM

Should see a total of over 40k then if that is just pure sales, which would be amazing.

We've got no idea on the missing data I'm afraid but no Frank album tracks are top 200 which looks a bit suspect to me, I'm sure at least a few would chart from Apple Music alone? So it looks to me that at least some Apple Music data is missing.

People over on ATRL are claiming that it is definitely missing. 'Lemonade' managed 10k from streams on it's opening week. Frank I wouldn't think would manage as much but I'm kind of thinking that he shouldn't be too far behind given the fact that more people seem to use Apple Music than TIDAL and the free trial lasts 3 months. Maybe I'm being too optimistic though with those kind of numbers, it's hard to tell. Frank just seems like the kind of artist people would stream and this release has a lot of internet hype.

Anything over 40k would be ideal anyway.

Ellie is doing well on Apple Music and is starting to grow on Spotify. It will probably stay top 20.

Posted by: mdh 23rd August 2016, 02:19 PM

Is Frank on Spotify? Stupid question but I'm not sure.

Not for now, although it probably will come later in the year

Posted by: mdh 23rd August 2016, 02:27 PM

I hate these Apple exclusives - judging by how well he's doing on Apple Music and the DRAKE EFFECT we all witnessed earlier in the year he could have probably got top 40 on Streams alone with Nikes and a few more tracks iif Blonde was on Spotify sad.gif

I doubt these record companies even realise the logistics behind a chart hit.

I hope that can make the top 40 on Friday seeing as it's #53 on iTunes and #30 on Spotify

I'd imagine The Ocean will probably be either #40 or #41 by Friday then.

Looking good for Alarm to go top 20 at long last cheer.gif

Richard Ashcroft's Album "These People" has had a significant boost these last couple of weeks (up to number 29 in Monday's chart from 87 last week), I know it has been reduced to £4.99 on iTunes but I have heard songs from the Album played in the background during the Olympics Highlights programmes in last few days.

Posted by: girl_from_oz 23rd August 2016, 05:22 PM

Interesting that the Frank Ocean album hasn't got any tracks you can buy individually, will be interesting to see if any of the tracks make the charts when it comes out on spotify

Posted by: pippa 23rd August 2016, 05:34 PM

Disappointed with the Olly Murs position.

I think we'll get at least five album tracks in the top 100 when it comes out on Spotify or any number between five and ten. It's doing very well on Apple Music at the moment anyway.

Yay for frank means we won't get a low selling number 1 but poor dolly she should have released last week

Posted by: niallyb 24th August 2016, 02:59 AM

Damn ! Rick Astley has got some staying power with that album. I thought it would be a 4 week wonder. What's keeping it going ? What kind of promo is he doing ?

Posted by: Bjork 24th August 2016, 06:16 AM

Rick Astley has done lots of promo but mostly his success is due to the constant and huge R2 airplay

just fixed a few of the sales figures in Joe's post if I may. DJ Snake is actually closer to Major Lazer than what was posted, the song is only ~400 copies behind and as Joseph said DJ Snake was the top selling song of yesterday, so it seems very likely that DJ Snake will be this week's #1 biggrin.gif

The usual day of streaming data is missing!

Posted by: Bjork 24th August 2016, 01:10 PM

but if there is 1 day of streaming data missing then than would benefit Cold Water, it's the same story as we had with One Dance always being #2 in th mids and ending up at #1

and didn't Westlife had 5 #1s within a year? their first 5

Posted by: gooddelta 24th August 2016, 01:12 PM

Ahh ok, yeah I guess Cold Water is a good few hundred sales further ahead then at least so should be safe this week.

But it does look as though Let Me Love You could do it next week in that case.

Actually, I believe Westlife managed it.

From Swear It Again in May 99 to Fool Again in April 2000.

Unless Chainsmokers throw a spanner in the works next week.

I'm pleased we have decent album sales but sad that Dolly so far into her career would have been on course for her first ever #1 if it wasn't for Franks over hyped album.

Ditto. A week earlier would have been perfect for Dolly! (Then again Frank's was a surprise release)

Posted by: SKOB 25th August 2016, 07:06 AM

LOL it wasn't a surprise, it was more of a case of whether it ws coming out now or next week. The album has been teased for months and months.

Posted by: Bjork 25th August 2016, 08:24 AM

of course it was a surprise release, I actually had lost all hope and really thought it was gonna be postponed forever
