Now we know that Little Mix and Kylie are releasing their new albums on the same week, who do you think will have the higher opening sales?

Posted by: slowdown73 16th September 2020, 08:39 PM

I would expect Kylie. I think there’s a real buzz about her new album.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 16th September 2020, 08:42 PM

Love to be proved wrong but Little Mix comfortably. They are huge and will snap up every bit of promo. So will Kylie and hopefully Kylie has all the best promo booked for release week like Graham Norton etc.

Also depends on the success of single 2 to pick up casual fans

I’m confident Kylie will get it the more I think about it.

She’s following up 2 #1 albums plus Glastonbury, she has been on pre-order for a few months and there are 7 different versions for fans to buy.

‘Golden’ opened with 48k in April without being aided by a hit single and SBIT opened with 26k in July - the fact she’s releasing in Q4 will by default attract more sales.

Little Mix are of course a threat but even with their BBC show coming up but that’s not suddenly going to lead to them adding 20/30k of extra sales?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 16th September 2020, 10:09 PM

If Little Mix try the multi format they will be a huge threat, if they dont i think it really increases Kylies chances.

Posted by: Calum 17th September 2020, 12:13 AM

When am I best to buy the album to add to Kylie's first week sales? kink.gif

Realistically I can't see Little Mix beating Kylie - as has already been said The Search isn't going to magically give them thousands upon thousands of sales, and particularly around November time the casual buyer is surely more likely to think 'oh new Kylie album, worth checking out or buying as present' as opposed to a Little Mix album.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th September 2020, 12:48 AM

Little Mix last album Lm5 saw a huge nosedive in sales for them but their recent singles are doing well for them so there sales might improve. Lm5 still sold about 250k I think. If they reverse their sales trend it's likely the album might not open on bigger numbers than kylie but could go on to outsell her long term.

Posted by: ...ready for it 17th September 2020, 02:59 AM

Kylie.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th September 2020, 01:34 PM

Hopefully Kylie has some promotion for release week as it will help.

Posted by: Jay* 17th September 2020, 02:42 PM

I still have faith that Kylie will come out on top! Queen of physicals!

It'll be very interesting to see how well Kylie sells in Q4. It's been a long time since she had a normal studio album out for this period (X in 2007!).

Posted by: aeroco 17th September 2020, 03:06 PM

Q4 always a risk chart position wise but the reward is better visibility and overall sales in the lead up to Chrimbo...though the benefits of that have severely receded in recent years, physical sales still do improve relatively.

I think if Kylie’s second single secures decent airplay in the build up she’ll secure enough physical sales opening week to beat most younger acts except of course Adele or another heritage act like The Rolling Stones.

I wouldn’t be upset if she misses the top but overall clears at least 100k for the year.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th September 2020, 03:20 PM

I think kylie will sell similar to what she did with Golden whether she gets number 1 or not but the number 1 is great for her discography and moves her up the list of artists with most number 1s.

Kylie’s last two albums have settled around the 150k mark - I’m sure LM will outsell her overall however I’m here for Kylie getting an 8th #1 album tbh.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th September 2020, 07:00 PM

I would be very surprised if Little Mix dont outsell kylie overall as im the same im expecting Disco to end up with about sales of 150k.

Little Mix will EASILY win the chart battle. They have a bigger fan base.

I think it’s really difficult to quantify ‘bigger fan base’ - there are so many factors aside from album sales alone.

A recent example would be 5SOS versus Dua Lipa in the album charts... it was seen as a dead cert Dua would debut at #1 and we know how that turned out.

They don't have comparable fan bases. Their fan base grew up with social media, which gives the impression that they have a "bigger" fan base because they're more prevalent. However, Kylie clearly has a large and devoted fan base that is reliably supportive when it comes to buying her physicals. The fact that her last two albums reached #1 demonstrates this. It could be a close call.

The lead single from LM5, Woman Like Me, was a #2 single, spent 9 weeks in the Top 10 and is also one of their best sellers. The Confetti singles have gone to #9 and #15... so how those singles have performed in the charts can't really be used as an indication that Little Mix will have improved sales with Confetti!

New Kylie albums always generate a buzz but I think after the success of golden and step back in time, it’s like her career has been rejuvenated again.

Posted by: jlj 17th September 2020, 11:42 PM

Kylie should win in week one.

She has more formats, her pre order has been out way longer, she’s very active with promo but her fanbase is mega dedicated too. Like she still has a huge amount of stans and there’s a lot of goodwill towards Kylie too she’s really managed to get the GP on board with her in a way that’s pretty impressive tbh.

Little Mix may well sell more in the long run but then again their last album sold a lot less than their previous ones and LM5 had a massive lead single chart wise even though it’s divisive on here. Kylie doesn’t need a huge single to sell an album but right now Little Mix do. It could be close but I think Kylie will get the #1 debut.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th September 2020, 12:15 AM

Kylie has been very lucky with the public generally having good will for her she has always remained hugely popular in that way.

Posted by: slowdown73 18th September 2020, 09:15 AM

If we experience another lockdown which looks increasingly likely, sales of both albums may suffer sadly particularly in relation to the physical sales and this could impact on Kylie’s chart position more as most of her fans tend to buy physicals.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 18th September 2020, 09:18 AM

I think Little Mix have just announced lots of formats like Kylie no?

Kylie Fans sat at home doing nothing but on Amazon and her website. Gosh she could well a load lol.

I think a picture disc and another cassette variant should be released.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 18th September 2020, 09:24 AM

Little mix doing invidual cassettes and vinyl.

Looks like an easy win for them now.

Kylie would have to release a lot more than she has done. Fans would buy buy doubt BMG will do it

Posted by: pippa 18th September 2020, 11:36 AM

Kylie should win the race but lose the battle.

If BMG are sensible they'll plan some new cassette versions. They still have plenty of time, 7 weeks to go! They're relatively cheap and quicker to produce than vinyl. I think it'll be too late for them to plan a new vinyl (i.e. picture disc), assuming it isn't in the works already. Labels have to book vinyl production many weeks or months in advance to ensure it's ready for release date.

I find it odd they've only gone with 1 cassette for DISCO considering how many there were for Step Back in Time. Plus label mates Steps have 6 cassettes. DISCO should get some with a different colour cassette shell, or they could have alternative artwork versions. Better still, they'd encourage her to sign some copies. That's another edge Little Mix have over Kylie - they had some signed CDs and vinyl up for pre-order (but they've sold out already).

Kylie vs. Little Mix

DISCO:
1. Standard CD
2. Deluxe CD [Official Store "book size" version]
3. Deluxe CD [Regular "square size" version]
4. Vinyl - Black
5. Vinyl - Clear [Official Store]
6. Vinyl - Blue [HMV/Indie]
7. Vinyl - Turquoise [Amazon]
8. Cassette

Summary: 3x CD, 4x vinyl, 1x cassette

Confetti:
1. Standard CD [+ some signed copies]
2. Deluxe CD
3. Vinyl - Black [+ some signed copies]
4. Vinyl - Colour Splatter [HMV]
5. Picture Disc Vinyl - Jade [Official Store]
6. Picture Disc Vinyl - Jesy [Official Store]
7. Picture Disc Vinyl - Leigh-Anne [Official Store]
8. Picture Disc Vinyl - Perrie [Official Store]
9. Cassette - Gold Glitter/Jade [Official Store]
10. Cassette - Red Glitter/Jesy [Official Store]
11. Cassette - Silver Glitter/Leigh-Anne [Official Store]
12. Cassette - Blue Glitter/Perrie [Official Store]

Summary: 2x CD, 6x vinyl, 4x cassette

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th September 2020, 01:07 PM

I think little mix will throw everything at this to try and get the number 1 also, the multi formats such as cassettes is a first for them.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 18th September 2020, 01:58 PM

Kylie should do

D - Cassette 1
I - Cassette 2
S - Cassette 3
C - Cassette 4
O - Cassette 5

So that OCD Kylie Fans can have fun putting them in order and have to buy all 5

Posted by: SmileyKylie 18th September 2020, 01:59 PM

The other thing is how many cassettes and vinyls will be made for Little Mix? Kylie may have a bigger run at the manufacturers

Ha, that wouldn't be a bad idea tbh. Carly Rae Jepsen did this with her recent album actually... she released 3 cassettes of different colours, with her initials on each spine - C R and J.

Hopefully BMG have something in mind anyway.

Posted by: ___∆___ 18th September 2020, 04:11 PM

Little Mix have announced a lot of bundles as mentioned already but the prices are obscene - 4 picture discs for £90 (Or £25 each separately), 4 cassettes for £36.

Whilst LM have a passionate fan base like Kylie they also now have tour tickets to pay for which might stop them from dropping £100+ on vinyl and cassettes. Also a standard CD for £11 and Deluxe for £17 blink.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th September 2020, 07:00 PM

BMG will keep an eye on this hopefully and up the ante if need be.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 18th September 2020, 07:16 PM

I think we need to see what single 2 is like.... I am perched to hear it and a video and what promo she has lined up.

Imagine a Disco bundle of Say Something Vinyl, single 2 CD, Cassette special edition for £25 quid? Lol

I always get excited to hear new kylie music so i am looking forward to seeing what single 2 has to offer.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 18th September 2020, 08:00 PM

Me too.

I can't wait to think we have 16 Kylie songs to discuss in 6 weeks time and we will all have our favourite

Posted by: Calum 18th September 2020, 11:41 PM

Hopefully Little Mix have shot themselves in the foot by announcing the tour at the same time. That allows Kylie to hold off and just announce more formats if that's in the plan! *.*

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th September 2020, 11:51 PM

Kylie having the longer pre orders im hoping will benefit Kylie, it will be also interesting to see how the next single does for little mix as that will be the on eto launch their album and likewise the next kylie single probably needs if it all possible to do slightly better than say something.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 19th September 2020, 05:13 AM

Pre order length won't matter. Kylie probably sold hardly any pre orders since the first week of pre orders or even first few days.

Amazon/hmv pre orders are just the vinyl really. Her website who knows.

How many who bought the vinyl single bought the album download for £5 too?

Surely they have more variants and probably waiting for single 2 to be released before she mentions then to build more interest

Potential lockdown is a real problem

Posted by: pippa 19th September 2020, 11:10 AM

Little Mix have so many formats coming even as far as individual covers for each member which will give them a large sales avenue.

Posted by: edneyguerra 19th September 2020, 04:54 PM

I heard that disco already had 15k pre-orders

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 19th September 2020, 06:44 PM

Hopefully that's true with more to come.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 19th September 2020, 07:25 PM

15k worldwide ? Hardly record breaking.

Posted by: Liam.k. 19th September 2020, 07:46 PM

That’s 15k just in the UK...

Posted by: SmileyKylie 19th September 2020, 07:51 PM

Ok a little better.

Wonder how many Little Mix have already done in a few days.

I dont know anyone who pre orders unless a limited edition and they scared it will sell out.

Time for 2nd single Magic to try and up the Disco vibe. If it isn't at all Disco then people will begin to wonder 😜

I am optimistic. I would rather big sales and a top 40 single than a top number 1 album

Posted by: Andrew. 19th September 2020, 07:57 PM

I actually think Little Mix might have it since they have more bundles than Kylie. Either way it's gonna be close.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 20th September 2020, 02:48 AM

Little mix really have alot of bundles and formats, they really are going for it. I wonder will it be a close battle or will one if them be a clear number 1.

Posted by: edneyguerra 20th September 2020, 12:03 PM

15k only in the uk

Posted by: Wall 20th September 2020, 12:07 PM

I’ll be shocked if Little Mix aren’t #1. I think streaming will play a huge factor

Posted by: pippa 21st September 2020, 12:28 AM

Streaming will provide Little Mix with the advantage.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 22nd September 2020, 09:33 PM

Think Kylie and BMG well aware of Little Mix threat

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 22nd September 2020, 09:38 PM

Ya she is very aware and im sure kylie would love to be the first to have number 1s across 5 decades, i know she has loads of time to do it but it would be great for it to happen now and also it would be her first time having 3 consecutive number 1s

Posted by: pippa 22nd September 2020, 10:21 PM

Kylie rarely speaks out on such battles so she must really want to achieve the potentially historic Number 1.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd September 2020, 08:27 PM

Ya its good to see her ready to do battle and hopefully win.

Posted by: pippa 23rd September 2020, 11:31 PM

I hope more news outlets etc get more behind the story of kylie going to number 1 would make her the first to have a number 1 album in 5 consecutive decades. Also kylie needs to mention it in any of her interviews.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 26th September 2020, 04:36 PM

She did in her ITV interview. It was a big point near the end. She seemed content but also dare I say confident

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 26th September 2020, 06:03 PM

Hopefully it keeps coming up as I think people will support it.
