QUOTE(Radio Times)
“Set in the fast-paced and challenging environment of the British newspaper industry, Press will immerse viewers in the personal lives and the constant professional dilemmas facing its characters,” “The series follow their lives as they attempt to balance work and play, ambition and integrity, amid the never-ending pressure of the 24-hour global news cycle and an industry in turmoil.”

Our two main characters are Charlotte Riley, who plays a Deputy News Editor of the fictional broadsheet The Herald, and Ben Chaplin, who is the Editor of tabloid newspaper The Post.

It stars Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders, Wuthering Heights), Ben Chaplin (Apple Tree Yard. Mad Dogs), David Suchet (Poirot), Paapa Essiedu (The Miniaturist), Ellie Kendrick (Game of Thrones) amongst others!

It is written by Mike Bartlett (Doctor Foster, Doctor Who) which is exciting! It will air for 6 hour episodes SOON to BBC One.

Sounds quite promising. It starts on 6 September.

Really enjoyed this at the start but I did feel it drifted off a bit towards the end. It's not really covering any new ground so far in terms of the issues its raising (red right wing newspapers awful with their 'journalism') but hopefully there's a few twists and turns coming up.

I've caught up with this over the last week or so. Some of the characters are a little overdone (can anyone be quite as horrible as Duncan?) while others a clearly based on real people such as Katy Hopkins. It is also rather obvious that The Herald is modelled on The Guardian. Overall though, it's been pretty good.

I am enjoying this more than I initially first expected. I do much prefer the Post scenes though, particularly this week where the focus was most with Charlotte Riley’s character there. Although the Post is clearly just the Sun/News of the World, it can be based on any of the main tabloids whereas the Herald is so CLEARLY just The Guardian (even down to this week where they said it was £2, they ask for donations on their website etc) it literally may as well be called the Guardian on the show.

I started wondering if it may have been more effective to have one series on The Post, another on The Herald (with the other papers just mentioned in the background/as part of stories but never properly seen) but also that’s obviously going into it expecting more than one series.

I'm half expecting the Guradian to announce that they are relaunching as a free title within weeks laugh.gif
