Since someone on one of the chart groups on Facebook was asked when was the last time we had a all female top 3, I thought I'd post the info without being their own wording obviously for stats and interest to any of you since you've been asking this too!
Dating back to 1988... w/c 14th February 1988 1. Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So lucky 2. Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now 3. Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart link for the full chart below! http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../19880214/7501/ w/c 23rd October 1988 1. Enya - Orinoco Flow 2. Kylie minogue - Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi 3. Whitney Houston - One Moment In Time http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../19881023/7501/ w/c 6th November 1988 1. Enya - Orinoco Flow 2. Kylie Minogue - Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi 3. Yazz - Stand Up For Your Love Rights http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../19881106/7501/ w/c 13th Nov 1988 1. Robin Beck - First Time 2. Kylie Minogue - Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi 3. Yazz - Stand Up For Your Love Rights (click next on the last chart as it follows on ) w/c May 19th May 1991 1. Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) 2. Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman (La Da Dee) 3. Beverley Craven - Promise Me http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../19910519/7501/ w/c March 8th 1998 1. Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On 2. Natalie Imbruglia - Big Mistake 3. Madonna - Frozen http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../19980308/7501/ w/c December 28th 2008 1. Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah 2. Leona Lewis - Run 3. Beyonce- If I Were A Boy http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../20081228/7501/ w/c March 1st 2009 1. Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You 2. Taylor Swift - Love Story 3. Lady GaGa - Pokerface http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../20090301/7501/ w/c November 7th 2010 1. Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World) 2. Cheryl Cole - Promise This 3. Alexis Jordan - Happiness http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../20101107/7501/ w/c October 5th 2014 1. Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass 2. Jessie J Ft Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang 3. Taylor Swift - Shake It Off http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singl.../20141005/7501/ (As mentioned Nicki Minaj's Anaconda came in at 3 the following week knocking Taylor down a space to complete an all female top 4) Unless I've missed any between this week up to 1988, it's very surprising how low on occurence we've been able to get all female top 3's That top 3 in 2009 <3 <3 <3 also 1998 was fab too! The 2008 and 2009 instances have to be two of the best top 3s ever

February 1988 was the first time ever if i recall correctly. Although credited as Yazz & The Plastic Population "The Only Way Is Up" was in reality a solo track meaning that W/E 13/08/88 could be added!
Incidentally you've got No 2 & 3 mixed up for W/E 19/11/88 |

I think the current Top 3 trumps all of those for me - Pink and Dua especially!

The glorious summer of 2006 was very female heavy, Wyclef Jean's presence on Hips Don't Lie probably spoiled a few occasions that year where it could have been an all-female top three, with the likes of Maneater, I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker, Smile, Ain't No Other Man and Unfaithful floating around at the top at the same time. Also Buttons (though that had Snoop Dogg on it) and Voodoo Child, From Paris To Berlin, Everytime We Touch etc...which all had female lead vocals. Such a good period <3

Kylie doing featuring a hat trick of times during the 80s when there was a string of very strong female artists in the charts.

Such a good period <3 I loved Summer 2006 and all of 2006 in general. Yeah, the chart rules were a bit stupid but the music was so damn good, male or female. |
