Dexton's Top 40 (22/05/2017) (Week 54)

A new #1 from man of the year moment George Ezra! Shotgun (10-1) becomes George's second consecutive #1 helped hugely by a) me getting right back into the song and b) the lyric videos release. If that lyric video doesn't put a smile on your face then what will? Bastille's Quarter Past Midnight (1-2), Ariana Grande's No Tears Left To Cry (2-4), and Blossoms' There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) (3-5) make room for Shotgun as well as a brand new entry from Clean Bandit with Solo featuring Demi Lovato at #3! Unless a supergroup featuring Justin Timberlake, George Ezra, and Clean Bandit themselves is released in the next week expect Solo to take the top spot in next weeks chart tongue.gif

Amy Shark rebounds (14-6) into the Top 10, accompanied by Billie Eilish & Khalid's Lovely (5-7) who earns yet another Top 40 hit in my chart further down as Shawn Mendes' Youth featuring Khalid enters at #29. Liam Payne & J Balvin each grab their first Top 10 with Familiar (19-9) whilst Charlie Puth and Kehlani grab their second with Done For Me featuring Kehlani debuting at #10 - all thanks to Charlie's Voicenotes album which enters at #3 in the album chart. Charlie previously charted here with How Long (#4), whilst Kehlani went one step further peaking at #3 on Calvin Harris' Faking It featuring Kehlani & Lil Yachty. George Ezra's Paradise finally leaves the Top 10 after 11 weeks (8-14).

Notable climbers this week are Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Genius (24-11), Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (21-15), Post Malone's Spoil My Night featuring Swae Lee (26-22), Client Liason's World Of Our Love (25-24), RAYE's Crew featuring Kojo Funds & RAY BLK (33-26), Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenezer (37-32), and Troye Sivan's Bloom (39-36). Genius gives Diplo his highest charting hit on the chart after Get It Right featuring MΨ reached #18 earlier this year. RAYE has managed to match the peak of her previous single Cigaratte featuring Mabel & Stefflon Don, although is yet to re-enter the Top 20 since her collaboration Check with Kojo Funds. There's quite a bit of a shakeup this week, with 4 long-running chart hits dropping out of the Top 40 and 10 new entries!

Selena Gomez earns her second chart hit after Wolves with Marshmello peaked at #2 (for 4 weeks!) late last year, as the 13 Reasons Why soundtrack single Back To You enters at #20. Jason Mraz's Have It All (#21), The Wombats' Turn (#27), M-22's First Time featuring Medina (#35), Years & Years' If You're Over Me (#38), Shawn Mendes' Where Were You In The Morning? (#39), and Peking Duk's Fire featuring Sarah Aarons (#40) are also new to the chart. Turn is The Wombats third single to enter my Top 40, but will their latest single be able to top the #9 peak of Cheetah Tongue? If You're Over Me is the new Years & Years single, sounding very similar to American Authors' 2013 hit Best Day Of My Life but not too similar to warrant a case laugh.gif Shawn Mendes' second new entry of the week is at #39 and becomes his 5th entry here dating back to Theres Nothing Holdin' Me Back (#10). Peking Duk also make a high profile return after the Top 10 hit Let You Down featuring Icona Pop, and the #1 hit Fake Magic with AlunaGeorge.

Hopping over to the album chart we see big boy George Eza reclaim the top spot after four weeks abroad (probably in South Africa or somewhere exotic as he does) and become just one of two high-profile artists to have held the #1 album position for 5 weeks or over. Speaking of the man of the woods, Man Of The Woods re-enters the Top 5. Charlie Puth's sophomore album Voicenotes debuts at #3 behind Blossoms' Cool Like You. Voicenotes contains the Top 10 hits How Long and Done For Me featuring Kehlani, as well as a few cooler jams like Slow It Down (which samples Hall & Oates) and The Way I Am.

Thanks for coming smile.gif

Hey Dexton!

Great Number 1, he's really delivering this era! And I reckon the album has a couple more great potential singles on it too biggrin.gif

New Clean Bandit is pretty good too, possibly not quite up there with Symphony or Rockabye but a definite improvement on I Miss You. That chorus is so catchy, and it's nice to hear a little more of the classical instrumentation in there too this time smile.gif

Good to see Charlie Puth enter even if I'm a little over it now. Plenty more on the album to keep me interested though! Hoping he announces the next single soon (and hoping it's The Way I Am!)

Other new entries I'm liking are Years & Years (sadly not as good as Sanctify but still a decent little pop song) and Selena Gomez. I'll have to give the Jason Mraz song another listen, I was hoping I'd love it but didn't think much of it on first listen.

Great stuff as usual!

Hello Dexton!
Great #1, could be one of my songs for the summer!
I also like the debut for "Solo" and "Done For Me" in the top 10 and "Familiar" as well in the top 10!
And I like the debuts for "Turn", "Youth", "First Time" and "If You're Over Me"!
Also the bubbling under chart is very refreshing!
Great chart as always!

Hey Mango!

Hold My Girl will definitely smash later on this year! I'm still loving everything on the album tbh, possible album of the year ohmy.gif

Solo was really instant for me, the first time I've loved a CB single from the get-go since Rockabye I think although Symphony & I Miss You did grow on me a lot too

I hope The Way I Am will be the next single he pushes too, I'm not sure if he'll get another singles chart hit this era but I hope he does tongue.gif

I didn't even realise Jason Mraz was still a thing until I heard this on the radio last week. I definitely recognised his voice but I had to google what lyrics I could remember to try and decipher who the song was by and what it was rotf.gif

Thanks!

Hey sergej!

Shotgun is brilliant! Never fails to put a smile on my face tongue.gif Definitely a song of the winter for me kink.gif

Youth should definitely climb next week with Shawn's album out, 3 songs in the chart already I wonder if anything else will enter (or re enter) tongue.gif
