Posted by: WhoOdyssey 20th March 2019, 08:15 AM

Grimes has announced her 5th album 'Miss_Anthrop0cene' and revealed a load of info about it:

New Album: Grimes - Miss_Anthrop0cene
1. mis·an·thrope
noun:
a person who dislikes humankind and avoids human society.
2. Anthropocene: The Anthropocene is a proposed epoch dating from the commencement of significant human impact on the Earth’s Geology and ecosystems including, but not limited to, anthropogenic climate change. ————————————
Just fount out my first interview in a few years is coming out tomorrow. I thought the writer was quite smart so hopefully it’s accurate haha. But just in case (cuz I’ve had some p f***ed press drama this year) I’m announcing album here first: ———————————-🖤🌸It’s called Miss_Anthropocene. It’s a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change: A psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world. She’s composed of Ivory and Oil (I’ve done some illustrations of her if you scroll down my instagram). ———————————-🧚🏻‍♀️
I love Godly personifications of abstract/ horrific concepts (For example, Mars as the Roman God of War) — so I wanted to update the list to include our modern issues. ———————————-🧬🚬
Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology. The first song ‘we appreciate power’, introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence. ———————————-🤖💣
It’s possible I will drop an EP or a few more singles of synth-based stuff b4 the album because its mostly ethereal nu metal (ish), and I know a lot of ppl miss the synths and whatnot. ———————————- 💫🌋Climate change is something I’m only ever confronted with in a sad/ guilty way…. Reading news and what not… so my goal is to make climate change fun (lol..??)…. uhhh… (I mean, everybody loves a good villain... re: the joker, Queen Beryl).. so maybe it’ll be a bit easier to look at if it can exist as a character and not just abstract doom. ———————————-☢️☣️
More musique soon! <3

Happy to see it's a nu-metal album - loved We Appreciate Power!

That was exactly one of my first thoughts haha

"my goal is to make climate change fun" - you go girl cheer.gif

If the planet is doomed and civilisation as we know it on borrowed time, we might as well listen to some great music while everything falls apart !

I don't understand when artists talk about their work like this, especially something acclaimed and adored by fans. Does she have an issue with it being a pop album? Her personality has always been the worst thing about her music, so, not a surprise.

This has KILLED me
QUOTE
She talks about a few specific songs again, too, including “So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth,” which this time she says is about “specifically how when a dude comes inside you, you become in their thrall — how it’s an attack on your feminist freedom.” On that note, she continues, referring to her relationship with Elon Musk

Why is Grimes

"Hana then comes over for 20-25 minutes and we do a screaming session while I slow boil the honey tea that maximizes vocal proficiency" kills me.

Posted by: TheJüpreme 16th July 2019, 10:19 AM

I'm over this before its begun like. I still like her ish but this is all Too Much

Posted by: Mattias 16th July 2019, 12:58 PM

do a stripped back acoustic album tbh

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 13th August 2019, 09:18 PM

Lead single is out on September 13th! Which means that WAP is not on the album.

Quite excited to hear a collab between Grimes and i_o! (If it actually happens, never believe her lies x)

8am tomorrow!

Posted by: dandy* 4th September 2019, 10:20 PM

I'm so excited for this but so nervous that it may not deliver. My expectations after her last album are sky high.

Posted by: John-James 5th September 2019, 07:19 AM

I'M F**KING SHOOK. this goes OFF

Posted by: dandy* 5th September 2019, 07:33 AM

I’m less shook. Maybe a slight tremble. I got to the end and thought oh that was nice which isn’t what she usually aims for!

I suspect I’ll be looning over it by tomorrow though.

Posted by: blacksquare 5th September 2019, 08:44 AM

It’s very Grimes-by-numbers for me, unfortunately.

She'll stream her next album from the SpaceX craft as she floats around with her live chickens and 20 pounds of potatoes

FINAL EARTH ALBUM LMAOOO

Violence is fab <3 The production *.*

Posted by: Rhoda Camel 5th September 2019, 09:36 PM

really like the production but the vocal melody will take some getting used to! will love it in due course x

Posted by: Rhoda Camel 5th September 2019, 11:17 PM

it's already sounding better on follow-up listens!

Posted by: Medellíam 6th September 2019, 09:01 AM

I've only heard WAP before so I couldn't tell you if this was Grimes by numbers, but I am loving this right now. The vocal melody was actually what I liked most - I don't know if it reminds me of something else or whether it's so up my street that I feel familiar with it already.

Posted by: dandy* 6th September 2019, 09:50 AM

OMG Liam you need to listen to the Art Angels album!!!

Flesh Without Blood, Kill vs Maim, Realiti, Venus Fly, Go, Butterfly, Pin in particular

Posted by: Medellíam 6th September 2019, 10:13 AM

I shall check it out! Love the two tracks I have heard so hoping to discover some more gems.

Posted by: blacksquare 8th September 2019, 01:23 PM

AND I LIKE IT LIKE THAT
AND I LIKE IT LIKE THAT

I have been converted after a few listens — bop

Posted by: danG 9th September 2019, 06:27 PM

wow this new track, first Grimes song I’ve cared for in years. although more down to the i_o production, guess i should check out more of his stuff.

Posted by: Bré 11th September 2019, 01:49 AM

This is exactly what I wanted from this collab tbh, loving it wub.gif reminds me a little of 'I Remember' by deadmau5 (obvz i_o is a mau5trap artist so that makes sense).

'So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth' is out today in both Art and Algorithm mixes

And the album will be released on February 21st, with the tracklisting:

1. So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth (Art Mix)
2. Darkside (with 潘PAN)
3. Delete Forever
4. Violence (with IO)
5. 4Æm
6. New Gods
7. My Name is Dark
8. You'll miss me when I'm not around
9. Before the Fever
10. Idoru

And 5 extra tracks on the deluxe version:

11. We Appreciate Power (feat. HANA)
12. So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth (Algorithm Mix)
13. Violence (Club Mix) (with IO)
14. My Name is Dark (Algorithm Mix)
15. Idoru (Algorithm Mix)

Posted by: dandy* 15th November 2019, 04:22 PM

It's okay on first listen. It's nice enough but it also sort of washed over me a bit, we'll see how it grows.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 15th November 2019, 04:25 PM

Had a listen to both versions, and I think I actually prefer the Algorithm Mix (though I believe it's basically just a Radio Edit tongue.gif) . Will have to give them both another go.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 28th November 2019, 03:19 PM

'My Name is Dark' is releasing tonight!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th November 2019, 07:42 PM

Another good track

Posted by: CockDestroyer 2nd December 2019, 03:12 PM

This is my favourite of the two by far. Heavier and moodier <3

Posted by: dandy* 4th December 2019, 08:46 PM

Yes it's my favourite also, doesn't feel like a retread of former glories but is still very interesting.

Posted by: Lissa Martin 12th December 2019, 04:30 AM

good for pop song lovers.

Posted by: Michael Bubré 12th December 2019, 01:41 PM

I wasn't so into 'So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth' (it was all a little too washed out and vague, nice enough to listen to but really nothing about it that makes me want to come back to it) but really liking 'My Name Is Dark'!

Holy shit that drum n bass chorus in 4ÆM! *.*

Posted by: WhoChristmassy 13th December 2019, 06:23 PM

'4ÆM' is out today - shaping up to be a brilliant album!

Posted by: Michael Bubré 15th December 2019, 10:20 PM

Ooh. I did not foresee this turning into a drum n bass banger from the intro. *.* Another great single.

Posted by: JingleBellJüpes 15th December 2019, 11:40 PM

Looking forward to the other Algorithm mixes tbh after the first one. Art mix wss too much

Posted by: WhoChristmassy 16th December 2019, 05:53 PM

Brilliant performance from The Game Awards!

Posted by: Slade 1st January 2020, 12:32 PM

Wow '4ÆM' is such a stomper! I love that she very quickly flipped the song from ethereal to full fat D&B banger laugh.gif *.*

The Algorithm mix of 'My Name is Dark' is releasing tonight!

Posted by: Mikal 13th February 2020, 04:18 PM

She's released her most accessible song yet "Delete Forever". I'm hearing the "Wonderwall" comparisons strongly but it is a beautifully sad track

Finally

I have been fairly lukewarm about most of what has been released so far — this is wonderful

Posted by: *CENSORED* 13th February 2020, 08:05 PM

Amazing.

Those strings are everything.

Posted by: dandy* 13th February 2020, 10:42 PM

Everything from this era has grown on me, plus the variety of sounds has been really interesting. I still have hope that the album is going to be a keeper.

Posted by: dandy* 17th February 2020, 07:00 PM

So I've listened to this now and I do like it, it's certainly not a pop follow up to Art Angels but it feels like a record halfway between Visions and Art Angels, it's definitely sonically darker. The vinyl only has the edited versions of the longer tracks so I'm still yet to hear absolutely everything - IDORU is quite the nice closer so looking forward to hearing the 7 minute version of that in particular.

Posted by: Bré 17th February 2020, 09:05 PM

How do you have the vinyl of the album so early?

Posted by: dandy* 17th February 2020, 09:12 PM

4AD dispatched the one from the official store last week for some reason.

Posted by: Bré 17th February 2020, 09:13 PM

I see - what a mess! (I think the album already leaked a while back though so... laugh.gif)

Posted by: dandy* 17th February 2020, 09:16 PM

Have to say that there's nothing more commercial on it than what has already been released. It's not going to beat the high points of Art Angels but it doesn't have the same lows, there were a couple on there that I never gelled with at all.

Posted by: Bré 17th February 2020, 10:16 PM

Not really feeling 'Delete Forever' much on first listen, found it a little boring tbh oops - I will be giving the album a listen next week anyway so hopefully it might grow on me, I've liked all of the other singles.

Posted by: *CENSORED* 18th February 2020, 07:37 AM

That your option.

Posted by: Cremey 21st February 2020, 01:19 PM

Loving this despite not being completely sure on some of the singles at first.
The last three tracks make it for me, what a closer IDORU is 😭
4ÆM is definitely the weak link for me

Posted by: *CENSORED* 25th February 2020, 05:09 PM

Outside of the singles the songs that stood out to me are Darkseid and Before the Fever wub.gif

Delete Forever is my favourite overall though and by quite a LOT at the moment. Can't get enough.

Posted by: Bré 27th February 2020, 05:04 PM

'Darkseid' is the one from the album tracks heart.gif 'You'll miss me when I'm not around' and to a lesser extent 'IDORU' are also standing out.

'So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth' sounded better than I remember when listening to it on the album but I'm still not getting anything from 'Delete Forever' oops, think it was actually my least favourite song on the album :x (that my option ik xx)

Posted by: Cremey 7th March 2020, 02:37 PM

Before the Fever is the post-apocalyptic anthem I didn’t know I needed

Posted by: Liam.k. 29th July 2020, 11:05 PM

Following on from his stunning series of Madonna album-inspired comic book covers, this artist - Liam Alexander - has moved onto Grimes, with the first two pieces uploaded so far:

Tho I do wish there was a bit more weird electronica on this record

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉq 29th August 2020, 05:51 PM

This album has grown on me so much after I gave it several more thorough listens (and spent two hours watching Grimes’ interviews and stuff last week oops she’s soooo likeable <3 ). Before The Fever and New Gods are my newest obsessions.

REZZ Remix of Violence is out on Friday

Posted by: gargvarun041 31st December 2020, 12:57 PM

really like the production but the vocal melody will take some getting used to!

Posted by: lewistgreen 1st January 2021, 09:19 AM

Posted by: Bré 4th January 2021, 12:48 AM

She's also dropped a new song ('Delicate Weapon') as part of the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack, don't think this has been posted anywhere else yet:

It's another song that's a little on the washed out side but I'm enjoying this quite a bit.
