Grimes has announced her 5th album 'Miss_Anthrop0cene' and revealed a load of info about it:
New Album: Grimes - Miss_Anthrop0cene
1. mis·an·thrope
noun:
a person who dislikes humankind and avoids human society.
2. Anthropocene: The Anthropocene is a proposed epoch dating from the commencement of significant human impact on the Earth’s Geology and ecosystems including, but not limited to, anthropogenic climate change. ————————————
Just fount out my first interview in a few years is coming out tomorrow. I thought the writer was quite smart so hopefully it’s accurate haha. But just in case (cuz I’ve had some p f***ed press drama this year) I’m announcing album here first: ———————————-🖤🌸It’s called Miss_Anthropocene. It’s a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change: A psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world. She’s composed of Ivory and Oil (I’ve done some illustrations of her if you scroll down my instagram). ———————————-🧚🏻♀️
I love Godly personifications of abstract/ horrific concepts (For example, Mars as the Roman God of War) — so I wanted to update the list to include our modern issues. ———————————-🧬🚬
Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology. The first song ‘we appreciate power’, introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence. ———————————-🤖💣
It’s possible I will drop an EP or a few more singles of synth-based stuff b4 the album because its mostly ethereal nu metal (ish), and I know a lot of ppl miss the synths and whatnot. ———————————- 💫🌋Climate change is something I’m only ever confronted with in a sad/ guilty way…. Reading news and what not… so my goal is to make climate change fun (lol..??)…. uhhh… (I mean, everybody loves a good villain... re: the joker, Queen Beryl).. so maybe it’ll be a bit easier to look at if it can exist as a character and not just abstract doom. ———————————-☢️☣️
More musique soon! <3
Happy to see it's a nu-metal album - loved We Appreciate Power!
Oh my god it's pretentious af but I love it.
Queen of bringing back artistry to pop.
If the planet is doomed and civilisation as we know it on borrowed time, we might as well listen to some great music while everything falls apart !
Grimes you messy bitch

Also apparently she's called 'c' now.

Why is Grimes
I'm over this before its begun like. I still like her ish but this is all Too Much
do a stripped back acoustic album tbh
Lead single is out on September 13th! Which means that WAP is not on the album.
Finally! Can't wait for this - and I'm happy WAP is on the album after it was reported it wouldn't be.
Quite excited to hear a collab between Grimes and i_o! (If it actually happens, never believe her lies x)
I'm so ready
8am tomorrow!
I'm so excited for this but so nervous that it may not deliver. My expectations after her last album are sky high.
I'M F**KING SHOOK. this goes OFF
I’m less shook. Maybe a slight tremble. I got to the end and thought oh that was nice which isn’t what she usually aims for!
I suspect I’ll be looning over it by tomorrow though.
It’s very Grimes-by-numbers for me, unfortunately.
this is very c which i appreciate. the song is fabulous and i don't get the hate it's getting
WAP is still superior though
(im)patiently waiting for the album now to be proven that she can deliver once again
and then she'll be beyonce-ing something crazy and experimental mahk mah weeerds. she promised 2 albums after all!
i_o COLLAB HOLY SHIT
best non-Earth album ever
FINAL EARTH ALBUM LMAOOO
Violence is fab <3 The production *.*
really like the production but the vocal melody will take some getting used to! will love it in due course x
it's already sounding better on follow-up listens!
I've only heard WAP before so I couldn't tell you if this was Grimes by numbers, but I am loving this right now. The vocal melody was actually what I liked most - I don't know if it reminds me of something else or whether it's so up my street that I feel familiar with it already.
OMG Liam you need to listen to the Art Angels album!!!
Flesh Without Blood, Kill vs Maim, Realiti, Venus Fly, Go, Butterfly, Pin in particular
I shall check it out! Love the two tracks I have heard so hoping to discover some more gems.
AND I LIKE IT LIKE THAT
AND I LIKE IT LIKE THAT
I have been converted after a few listens — bop
wow this new track, first Grimes song I’ve cared for in years. although more down to the i_o production, guess i should check out more of his stuff.
This is exactly what I wanted from this collab tbh, loving it reminds me a little of 'I Remember' by deadmau5 (obvz i_o is a mau5trap artist so that makes sense).
'So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth' is out today in both Art and Algorithm mixes
And the album will be released on February 21st, with the tracklisting:
1. So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth (Art Mix)
2. Darkside (with 潘PAN)
3. Delete Forever
4. Violence (with IO)
5. 4Æm
6. New Gods
7. My Name is Dark
8. You'll miss me when I'm not around
9. Before the Fever
10. Idoru
And 5 extra tracks on the deluxe version:
11. We Appreciate Power (feat. HANA)
12. So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth (Algorithm Mix)
13. Violence (Club Mix) (with IO)
14. My Name is Dark (Algorithm Mix)
15. Idoru (Algorithm Mix)
It's okay on first listen. It's nice enough but it also sort of washed over me a bit, we'll see how it grows.
Had a listen to both versions, and I think I actually prefer the Algorithm Mix (though I believe it's basically just a Radio Edit ) . Will have to give them both another go.
'My Name is Dark' is releasing tonight!
Another good track
This is my favourite of the two by far. Heavier and moodier <3
Yes it's my favourite also, doesn't feel like a retread of former glories but is still very interesting.
good for pop song lovers.
I wasn't so into 'So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth' (it was all a little too washed out and vague, nice enough to listen to but really nothing about it that makes me want to come back to it) but really liking 'My Name Is Dark'!
Holy shit that drum n bass chorus in 4ÆM! *.*
'4ÆM' is out today - shaping up to be a brilliant album!
Ooh. I did not foresee this turning into a drum n bass banger from the intro. *.* Another great single.
Looking forward to the other Algorithm mixes tbh after the first one. Art mix wss too much
Brilliant performance from The Game Awards!
Wow '4ÆM' is such a stomper! I love that she very quickly flipped the song from ethereal to full fat D&B banger *.*
The Algorithm mix of 'My Name is Dark' is releasing tonight!
She's released her most accessible song yet "Delete Forever". I'm hearing the "Wonderwall" comparisons strongly but it is a beautifully sad track
Amazing.
Those strings are everything.
Everything from this era has grown on me, plus the variety of sounds has been really interesting. I still have hope that the album is going to be a keeper.
So I've listened to this now and I do like it, it's certainly not a pop follow up to Art Angels but it feels like a record halfway between Visions and Art Angels, it's definitely sonically darker. The vinyl only has the edited versions of the longer tracks so I'm still yet to hear absolutely everything - IDORU is quite the nice closer so looking forward to hearing the 7 minute version of that in particular.
How do you have the vinyl of the album so early?
4AD dispatched the one from the official store last week for some reason.
I see - what a mess! (I think the album already leaked a while back though so... )
Have to say that there's nothing more commercial on it than what has already been released. It's not going to beat the high points of Art Angels but it doesn't have the same lows, there were a couple on there that I never gelled with at all.
Not really feeling 'Delete Forever' much on first listen, found it a little boring tbh oops - I will be giving the album a listen next week anyway so hopefully it might grow on me, I've liked all of the other singles.
That your option.
Loving this despite not being completely sure on some of the singles at first.
The last three tracks make it for me, what a closer IDORU is 😭
4ÆM is definitely the weak link for me
Outside of the singles the songs that stood out to me are Darkseid and Before the Fever
Delete Forever is my favourite overall though and by quite a LOT at the moment. Can't get enough.
'Darkseid' is the one from the album tracks 'You'll miss me when I'm not around' and to a lesser extent 'IDORU' are also standing out.
'So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth' sounded better than I remember when listening to it on the album but I'm still not getting anything from 'Delete Forever' oops, think it was actually my least favourite song on the album :x (that my option ik xx)
Before the Fever is the post-apocalyptic anthem I didn’t know I needed
Following on from his stunning series of Madonna album-inspired comic book covers, this artist - Liam Alexander - has moved onto Grimes, with the first two pieces uploaded so far:
You'll Miss Me is growing on me
Tho I do wish there was a bit more weird electronica on this record
This album has grown on me so much after I gave it several more thorough listens (and spent two hours watching Grimes’ interviews and stuff last week oops she’s soooo likeable <3 ). Before The Fever and New Gods are my newest obsessions.
REZZ Remix of Violence is out on Friday
really like the production but the vocal melody will take some getting used to!
Turns out it's a remix album! Even better
She's also dropped a new song ('Delicate Weapon') as part of the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack, don't think this has been posted anywhere else yet:
It's another song that's a little on the washed out side but I'm enjoying this quite a bit.
