QUOTE
Looking ahead to next year’s competition is the British national broadcaster, BBC, who have reportedly been in recent discussion with Sweden’s 2015 Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw about the search for next year’s British representative.

Speaking to Aftonbladet following his commentary stint at the 2017 competition, commentating for the Swedish national broadcaster SVT alongside Edward af Sillén throughout the past Eurovision week, Zelmerlöw spoke of his recent move to London as well as about his talks with the BBC about possible plans for 2018:

"I spoke a little with the British producer. It would be fun to do something now while I’m in London. Be involved in their selection and see if we can help them in any way."

The Emmelie de Forest news was reported early October last year and that did end up being our entry! Mans seems to be incredibly popular after being involved with Eurovision for the third year in a row so it would be great to get him on board in some way and it would be another step forward for us.

Interesting - perhaps he'll have an influence in getting the right songwriters on board, or perhaps try to influence us down the Melodifestivalen route if we're so incredibly lucky.

It would be fab to do a Melfest-esque NF but we say this every year, and people wouldn't do it. Eurovision is godly in Sweden and loads of their biggest local artists will do it, whereas obviously over here it's seen as a joke, so we get X Factor rejects who've never had a hit. I don't think it's THAT bad of a joke it would kill the career of say Anne-Marie or Dua Lipa if they entered with a killer song, and as I seem to say every year I think it would be that route that could actually save the reputation a bit.

A song like Ciao Adios probably would've been a top ten for us, but Anne-Marie would never do Eurovision as it's too big of a career risk.

Would be nice if we get Mans to write our next entry, perhaps we'll get another top 15 or hell, even another top 10.

I love him dearly and the fact that he's moved to London is making me reconsider my long held objections to the capital, but him being involved in the process is fab provided it's him linking us with the people's who will provide us with a banger like Kempe (who appears to be on the outs with Christer and SVT) I've just corrected myself, he does more writing than I thought but him alone risks a Barcelona sessions rather than a Heroes.

Any move towards a MF style NF is going to take a fundamental culture shift in the U.K. that'll never happen. The press and public treat it like a joke. As long as they do that they'll continue to unironically bitch about the uk doing poorly while refusing to accept that shite like Scooch simply has no place in ESC if you want to win

Yeah, it's the writers I've got in mind, if Mans could have any influence with hooking us up with some strong Swedish writers, I'd be very happy with that.

Song submissions have opened, and former Icelandic entrant Greta Salóme has been attending some of the writing camps that Emmelie de Forest did last year.

Quality wise, that shows a bit of promise

But knowing the DUST that voters paid to Hear Them Calling..

Hurts still want to do it!
QUOTE
With touring comes experience. Both Theo and Adam are certainly experts in telling apart audiences from different European countries by now.

Which makes Hurts the perfect choice for Eurovision and something the BBC could seriously consider. In addition to that, they will know how to create a song that can cater for Europe’s general music tastes while remaining authentic to their own style.

Hurts have previously offered their services to the UK’s Eurovision committee. Their song was ready to be submitted but the duo decided to withdraw their bid after a suggestion that the composition should be performed by an old music legend or a reality TV star. Their reaction to this proposal was a short and decisive statement:

“No way, we’ve got this plan for how we’d win it.”

To this day, the band refuses to disclose the name of the song that was a part of their plan to win Eurovision. Hopefully, Theo and Adam remain enthusiastic about bringing the UK its first Eurovision win in 20 years.

I'm glad they're still optimistic about doing it after being snubbed in favour of Engelbert back in 2012.

The BBC need to let Hurts have a go already - they are a credible act that has wanted to represent us for years. If they don’t get a chance soon they will end up representing one of the countries they are big in such as Russia.

Hurts is too good of an opportunity for the BBC to miss, hope they go for that rather than yet another X Factor finalist (I'm aware Saara had a history with Finnish national finals before XF but I don't think she'd do any better than Lucie Jones) .
