QUOTE
Little Mix is making a new talent show for the BBC. The group has enjoyed international success since winning Simon Cowell-fronted “The X Factor” in 2011. That show is a staple of ITV’s weekend primetime schedule, but the band is now headed to the BBC for its own series, provisionally titled “Little Mix – The Search.”

The BBC declined to comment, but Variety has confirmed that the project, first reported by tabloid The Sun, is underway. The British pubcaster has been searching for a new Saturday night format. Its long-running “Strictly Come Dancing” remains popular, but several efforts to launch new shiny-floor hits have foundered.

Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson recently made a one-off documentary for the BBC, “Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out,” in which she opened up about abuse she has suffered at the hands of cyberbullies.

In talent format “Little Mix – The Search,” Nelson and her bandmates Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock will mentor up-and-coming acts.

Little Mix has had a string of No. 1 singles in the U.K. including “Black Magic” and “Shout Out to My Ex,” and has sold 50 million records worldwide. The band was on Cowell’s Syco record label but moved to RCA for its most recent, fifth album “LM5.” The band is managed by Modest.
Thoughts?!

HOW RANDOM!? laugh.gif

Obvz I'm here for it, but yeah. laugh.gif

Posted by: Defaze 11th October 2019, 06:36 PM

I'm a bit dubious given how left-field this is. laugh.gif Perhaps the amazing reception to Jesy's documentary paved the way for it? Honestly, it would be a genius move if true. Their personalities are so infectious and it obviously gives them a platform to promote their own music each week. Here for it!

Posted by: shindymindy 12th October 2019, 04:17 PM

I think it will be great for them to do this.
Little Mix on our TVs every week!

Posted by: pippa 16th October 2019, 02:17 PM

I would welcome this to be a success and it could lead to aa mini version of Little Mix!
A few songs plugs, and possibly performances would help Little Mix in the charts too.

Posted by: Defaze 17th October 2019, 05:15 PM

They're on now Radio 1 now! Confirmed 'Little Mix: The Search' on BBC1. Get that coin girls!

(Grimmy also played 'Move'. Taste.)

Edit:

Posted by: Jonjo 17th October 2019, 05:29 PM

I'm so excited for this. Mainly coz we'll get to see them on prime time telly for a few weeks! *.*

Posted by: Frenchie 17th October 2019, 05:39 PM

Hyped for this! They also said about support for a summer tour next year, so hopefully that means new music before then.

Posted by: Jonjo 17th October 2019, 06:00 PM

Yeah I was thinking that! A Q1/Q2 album release could do wonders for them!

Posted by: Jonjo 18th October 2019, 07:43 AM

How do you see this show doing for Little Mix in regards to ratings and how successful it could be?

Posted by: pippa 24th October 2019, 02:59 PM

It is hard to predict but the first episode should attract at least 5 million viewers.

I honestly no clue it had even aired until this comment. A girl group winning when the show's very purpose was to stick it to Little Mix is a bit of a lol. Very convenient.

They're coming to Brazil on March 7th/8th next year. I'm over the moon!

But does that mean the show will be over by then already?

I’m not sure that this is till going to go ahead. The BBC have released a press pack of shows that will ‘entertain’ people during this time and this isn’t mentioned anywhere. If it is still going ahead it doesn’t look like it will be one for some time at least:

They’ve put loads of time into this - months of filming already.
They just had the lives to do - I think 4 or 5 shows.

It’s defo happening - they’ve invested too much into it.

I was under the impression it was just a couple of shows that got filmed and that they hadn't finished that part yet. Sorry, my bad.

Aha all you need to do for Twitter embeds is:

Take the bolded part of the twitter link and wrap it around twitter embed codes.

According to what BBC1 currently have on Saturday nights, and when that stuff ends and the fact that the trailer has just been realised for this, I would guess at a start date of the 19th September!

Posted by: jsweetxe 7th September 2020, 06:59 PM

9th October album release please! That should coincide with the live shows or at least give them a promotion opportunity anyway.

And also to build off of that Jesy’s interview from August about the album said around 1 or 2 months which would actually be the 9th lol

I can’t see this flopping at all
Jesy’s documentary broke records and wasn’t this heavily promoted nor was it on bbc one.

When it did air on BBC One later it got 3.3m which is quite good for the type of documentary it is!

Posted by: jsweetxe 8th September 2020, 09:02 AM

If there's anything the UK love it's a talent show.

Posted by: legendsglory 8th September 2020, 09:15 AM

How many views are we expecting this to get on the first episode then?

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 8th September 2020, 09:22 AM

I'm going to predict 5.5m ish

Posted by: jsweetxe 8th September 2020, 09:31 AM

If Holiday has taught us anything it's that Mixers are not good at predicting stats/positions/views lol

I'm expecting them to be good, if they do a bit more promo for it and the promo works, i'm expecting like GOOD views, but if not, then like average-good

Posted by: Tafty 8th September 2020, 10:39 AM

What would be good and what would be "concerning" for the first episode? (I don't follow TV ratings anymore so I have no idea what is considered good and what isn't etc..)

I think anything over 4m would be good, between 3m - 4m would be ok and under 3m would be concerning. I can’t see it being absolutely huge so I’m going to predict 3.8m for the first episode then it might rise or fall depending on the reaction to it.

Some other Saturday night shows for context:
BGT last week: 5.5m
Strictly Come Dancing: Around 9m ish
Total Wipeout (in the slot at the moment): Just over 2m - this rating is seen as bad and obviously this is much cheaper than The Search smile.gif

Posted by: caseclosed 8th September 2020, 02:22 PM

Posted by: jsweetxe 8th September 2020, 03:00 PM

10 episodes is very good, this means they can flesh everything out- I'm more interested in the content from the girls than the new group tbh lol

Also that part about a star-studded finale? I wonder if the girls will finally perform with other artists as well?

This is sounding so damn exciting. With 6 bands and 1 going each week until 2 are left, I assume, that would put the live shows starting on the 31st October, as the last episode is going to air on 28th November (providing 1 episode a week with 1 band going each week) which means if they were wanting to properly coincide the album release with The Search it would be the 30th, but they could let the album build for a bit, so I'm still expecting an October release date.

Since the live shows could start on Halloween I hope the girls perform E.T but with like FULL Little Mix theatrics, that would be pretty cool.

Posted by: legendsglory 8th September 2020, 06:45 PM

Surely they won’t leave the album release until after the show, right?

I’m expecting a mid/late October release for the album.

As for viewing figures, the girls were doing promo today so i assume it’s for this show and they have more interviews planned along with the buses spreading the word... so i think it will open with around 5.5-6m.. As stated above Jesys documentary opened with 3.3m so i can see this doing way more as it’s a new talent show and people will want to check it out for something new to watch.

Posted by: jsweetxe 8th September 2020, 07:23 PM

The show finished at the end of November. So I don’t think they would.

I feel like the album release date depends on how their team want the album to do. If they release it whilst the show is airing but before the live shows it’ll probably have the better longevity. It’ll chart well (no one big is releasing in October they could bag that #1) and continue growing and gaining sales when the live shows start, as that is what will people in IMO and once it finishes its Christmas period, so theyll gain sales that way.

Or they can release as the live shows start and miss out on prime no competitions during the mid weeks of October.

This is all v stressful and exciting haha

Posted by: shadow2009 9th September 2020, 12:23 PM

I'm sure the ratings will be good and I'm excited to see the girls but talent shows are soooooo dated nowadays. We've been forced to live through about 20 years worth of X-Factor, Britains Got Talent, The Voice, Masked Singer, Let It Shine, Popstars, American Idol and other random flops that I just can't help but think the actual show itself won't really be offering anything particularly fresh or produce any stars.

Maybe if the girls themselves each had a category/band so it was more competitive? Or stood out a bit?

Posted by: jsweetxe 9th September 2020, 12:33 PM

I think the plan for this show is to use the girl's magnetic personalities, they're always highly praised whenever they do something that just requires their own character and personality, so I think that's their selling point. X-Factor and BGT etc are so dead because the judges usually aren't as charismatic or entertaining, especially not currently, whereas Little Mix aren't "TV Judges", they're just them.

I do agree that it probably won't produce a big worldwide act, or even a local act, groups/bands are a dying brand and really only gain anything significant if they're a legacy act or a K-POP act, which I assume will die out soon as Western consumers get bored, quickly.

Posted by: shindymindy 13th September 2020, 01:18 PM

Posted by: caseclosed 16th September 2020, 02:31 PM

Double premiere next weekend!

Posted by: jsweetxe 16th September 2020, 02:38 PM

Since there's 2 episodes airing on the same weekend, that brings the end date for this on the 22nd November, which means that date regarding the album release is more than likely fake, because why would they release it AFTER The Search? Unless they aim to build on the album and then release it the week after? Which still doesn't make sense but..

Posted by: caseclosed 16th September 2020, 02:41 PM

Is it good to air it on Sunday as well? Are the ratings good? I hope it doesn't air every Sunday since it would end too fast.

Ratings are traditionally good on a Sunday, however there’s very few talent shows that air on a Sunday, meaning not much to base it off.

They could perform on shows like Graham Norton, hasnt his show got the live audience back? And Strictly is starting soon. The One Show too etc. It just wont be THEIR show which isnt the worst thing i guess as its only 12 days after the final so its still fresh and its not like it will be forgotten that quickly.

It seems bad now but im sure their team has thought it all through..

Posted by: caseclosed 19th September 2020, 02:48 PM

Yeah here’s hoping! At least their preorders will be great, surely!

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 19th September 2020, 08:50 PM

The album doesn’t need to be released during The Search it will build up pre orders throughout the weeks, giving them time to promote elsewhere in the run up to the album.

I actually think it’s perfect timing, keeping to November releases and getting hopefully large pre-orders and then doing extra promo off the back of the show.

Posted by: Wall 20th September 2020, 05:28 PM

Are they gonna have guest performers?

Posted by: caseclosed 21st September 2020, 01:12 AM

Oh, they'll have separate audition episodes for each "category"?

How will that work out considering they have 10 episodes and 6 finalists? That would mean 6 episodes of auditions, which I find a bit much. And then "bootcamp" would take what? Two? Where would the liveshows fit?

Oh, reading the description, I think they're going to air everything regarding the boyband formed on Saturday. That'd mean 4 liveshows in the end, right?

So that would make the first liveshow on 17th of October. They should release the single on the 16th at best.

QUOTE
What’s your ambition for the series?

Leigh-Anne: To find the next best big group and be the best mentors that we can be.

Perrie: We wanted the show to be different and unique, and feel fresh and young. We also hoped we would find amazing talent, as if we haven’t got amazing talent it doesn’t work. Luckily the talent was so good. The show is everything we wanted it to be.

How is LMTS different to other talent shows?

Jesy: I think it’s more current and fresh. It’s nice to see mentors who can relate to everything, who are living proof that a show like this can make you successful.

Leigh-Anne: The format is completely different to any other talent show. Us girls have been through it, we’ve been in their shoes and auditioned before. We’ve been successful - we’ve lived it. We can help them and guide them, and hopefully they can follow in our footsteps in terms of success.

Jade: It’s really authentic. We’ve lived the experience ourselves. As mentors we’re hands on and want to support them during and after the show. It’s a new way of doing things and we don’t follow the stereotypical rules of a talent TV show. We want to really support the acts, and I think that will really resonate with the audience watching.

How do you hope fans will react when they tune into Little Mix The Search?

Jesy: I hope they love it as much as we love it. I hope they think the talent is good. I feel confident they will!

Jade: I think they’ll be quite overwhelmed at how much talent there is on the show. We’ve had so many incredible singers and artists. It will give people an insight into our friendship as a group. It will be nice for people to see us open up more. People don’t see that side of us all the time.

How was filming the audition stages of the show?

Leigh-Anne: It was really fun. It was actually amazing to know all these incredible singers wanted to be on our show. We were really happy with the talent we found.

Jade: It was really bizarre being on the other side of it and having to judge people. It was very emotional knowing you’ve had to let someone down. At the time when you get a no it can feel the worst thing ever. It was emotionally draining going home knowing you’ve let someone down. But at the same time, it’s amazing when you find insanely talented people so it’s rewarding at the same time.

What are you looking for in the contestants of LMTS?

Perrie: We’re looking for someone who has that dynamic they can bring to the group. A friendly personality, but their talent needs to be off the scale. We’re looking for the full package.

Jade: It isn’t just enough to be an amazing singer. You need authenticity, people love to love the person behind the music. Someone that has something very interesting about them. I love the people that come to the show knowing what sort of artists they are. That confidence and awareness is appealing to me.

You’ve filmed the auditions already, are you happy with your line up?

Perrie: Completely! The whole time we were doing the auditions, we kept looking at each other and saying we can’t believe these people have auditioned for our TV show.

Have there been any moments that have really stood out to you so far?

Leigh-Anne: Every now and again you get that one audition that sticks out. My favourite audition was two boys; they are brothers and an r’n’b rap group. It was really emotional. Sometimes people just connect with you, and it was a nice moment.

Perrie: Certain people when they auditioned made me cry. When you have that connection vocally, it really moves you. We all feel something unique, and we all react differently.

Jade: When we chose the final bands line up. Seeing their journey from their first audition to on stage, we were blown away by how well they gelled. I love that feeling you get when something really special happening in front of you, it’s really exciting.

How was it being on the other side, and judging rather than auditioning?

Jade: With great power comes great responsibility. We all felt it at the beginning with our first nos, it was so hard to say it. As we got into it we realised there was only a certain amount of spaces and we had to decide if people were ready. It’s exciting to give someone a platform.

Jesy: I really enjoyed it because I felt we could give a lot of advice that they genuinely took on board. They know we’ve been in that position, which I think helps put them at ease.

Do you have any regrets from auditions? Anyone upon reflection you wish you’d put through?

Leigh-Anne: Yes I do have some regrets. It’s annoying when you watch it back and think ‘why did I say no to them’. There are also people that the other girls didn’t put through which I’m sad about.

Perrie: I went into this saying I just wanted to be true to myself. There were times when people would fight hard for their place and I’d think - go on then! I wish I’d been more stern but it’s hard when you see how much they want it. Certain people won me over, but deep down I knew it wasn’t right.

Did you have any disagreements between yourselves during the auditions? Did you fall out at all over decisions on who to put through to the next stage?

Leigh-Anne: There’s quite a few times where my face says it’s all! We all have different tastes in music, so we’re bound to disagree sometimes.

Jesy: We didn’t fall out, but we defo had disagreements. It didn’t surprise me though, as we all have different taste in music.

Jade: We definitely had disagreements. A couple of times maybe I went off in a huff! There are moments we couldn’t believe someone wouldn’t put someone through. It’s inevitable that we’re not always gonna agree on certain people. But we all respect each other’s opinion.

Did you feel bad having to let anyone go/give negative (constructive) feedback?

Perrie: I found that really difficult. Difficult being the decider. Because I’ve been there and I know how much that ‘yes’ means. I rang my mum crying at one point, as I found it so hard saying no to people. I know how hard it hits when it’s something you’re passionate about.

Leigh-Anne: Yeah there was one girl, I felt she was too young. It’s not like we’re giving negative feedback, it’s all very constructive. Sometimes people just aren’t ready, and it would be unfair to put them through if we know that.

Jesy: It wasn’t nice to send people home. I struggled with that, because we know exactly how that feels.

Can you give us any intel about the live shows?

Jade: There’ll be a few surprises. It’s six completely different bands, different genres, and they’ll each bring their own thing, and each be in control of what they want to do. Oh and defo expect some Little Mix performances!

Leigh-Anne: They’re gonna be massive! We’re excited because the performances are gonna be HUGE.

Jesy: It’s gonna be really different because each group will bring their own vibe and their own style of performance.

Did you have memories of your time auditioning on a talent show?

Perrie: I didn’t want to do it, but my mum forced me. I’m really thankful now! I was painfully shy and didn’t wanna do anything that would embarrass myself.

Jade: I just remember being terrified. And when you’re nervous it affects your vocals. I sympathise with people whose nerves get the better of them. I remember thinking ‘if you nail this it could change your life’, which is quite a surreal feeling to have.

Quite a few of the contestants were really nervous; do you have tips on how you overcome your own nerves if you’re ever in that position?

Leigh-Anne: Some nerves are good, as it shows you care. It’s all about breathing techniques. It’s so hard to control nerves, but you can overcome it. Once you feel the support it definitely helps.

Perrie: It’s easier said than done, but if you’re gonna let your nerves get in the way, you’re not gonna do well. It’s 30 seconds, so fake it 'til you make it! Put on a character, pretend it’s not you.

Do you think these shows are the best way to break into the music industry?

Jesy: Not necessarily, but I do think it gives people a massive platform. You get to build a fanbase and showcase your talent for people in the industry like management and labels, so it’s all exposure.

Leigh-Anne: It’s what you do after that is important. You have to create music that people will buy into and show who you are as an artist.

Jade: For someone like me from a working class background, I couldn’t afford to move to London, or pay for studio time. My resources were limited. So doing a show like this gives big opportunities. The Search puts people through their paces, and that experience is priceless even if you don’t win. There’s so much experience to be had.

What has been your most memorable experience during your career so far?

Perrie: Just being in the group, with all the laughs and success we’ve had. Doing it together has made it incredible.

Jade: When we won our first Brit award. That was such a whirlwind couple of weeks. We were on tour with Ariana in the USA at the same time, and that moment I thought we’d really made it. It was one of those pinch me moments! We were used to being the underdog up until that point. When we were given that Brit, it was like we were seen and recognised as artists.

What top qualities do you think it takes to be in a globally successful band?

Leigh-Anne: Dedication, drive and commitment. You need to basically want it and work hard.

Jade: It’s essential you’re all on the same wavelength about what you wanna be as a group. To be able to see the bigger picture and support each other. You’ve got to work hard for it, support each other and let each other shine.

Who would be in your dream pop super group - if you could take members from any different pop group ever?

Leigh-Anne: Mel B, Normani, Emma Bunton, Beyoncé and all of Little Mix!

Perrie: Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Mel C, Gary Barlow, Diana Ross

Jesy: Missy Elliot, Normani, Beyoncé and myself!

Jade: Normani, Missy Elliot, myself and TLC’s Left Eye

What’s the best piece of advice about the industry/your career you have ever been given and who gave it to you?

Leigh-Anne: Know your power, believe in yourself and don’t let anyone dim your light.

Jesy: ‘Don’t read comments’. Nicola Roberts told me that.

Sum the show up in three words

Jade: Fun, fresh, authentic

Leigh-Anne: Electrifying, trailblazing, fun

Perrie: Fresh, fun, exciting

Jesy: Unique, current, fun

I was thinking about 4 million, with a 3 million average for the season. 5+ would be amazing!

Really don't think Little Mix have the same power but hope I'm proved wrong!

Posted by: shindymindy 23rd September 2020, 01:00 PM

I think between 5.5 - 6 million

I know a few Kylie fans were trying to say they can't promote their music but...

I think Leigh was talking about the groups' performances though, given the context, but they're definitely going to be performing.

I don't expect huge numbers from the debut; I think this show is an opportunity for them to regain the public's interest so I don't think they'll open that well...

I'm really excited for the girls. Someone mentioned a few months back this being a really crucial period for them.

If all goes well and the public's interest in them grows significantly that will set them up for a big 10 year anniversary.

Similar to Girls Aloud, "A Night With..." special and 10 Year documentary could be on the cards.

It would be nice for the general public to properly consider them UK pop royalty alongside Adele, Ed Sheeran which IMO still isn't the case just yet.

This weekend is happening! However, Jade is self-isolating sad.gif

So I'm not sure if a performance happens (unless they do something acoustic?) But I really hope Jade is ok and is healthy!

Who does Jade live with? She or her housemates must have the virus if she's isolating, right?

Posted by: Tafty 21st October 2020, 09:30 PM

It depends, one of them might have come directly in contact with someone who has it (they don't necessarily have to have it), so they all have to isolate, I think.

Posted by: jlj 21st October 2020, 11:36 PM

I’m glad it’s still going ahead but yeah idk how a performance is gonna work with one of them not there.

I suppose they couldn’t postpone two weeks in a row

Posted by: troylovesmusic 22nd October 2020, 04:44 PM

Videos from each of the groups last week. It’s good each group are all living with each other . (The girls should have all stayed together during the live process as well to be honest)
