The rehearsal for the World Cup will be taking place from Saturday and end on Sunday 2nd June. The matches will be live on ITV.

Group A:

Russia (World Cup Hosts)
New Zealand (OFC Nation Cup Winners)
Portugal (Euro 2016 Winners)
Mexico (CONCADAF Cup Winners)

Group B:

Cameroon (Africa Cup of Nations Winners)
Chile (Copa America Winners)
Australia (AFC Asian Cup Winners)
Germany (World Cup Winners)

Will anyone be watching this?

Posted by: Suedehead2 Jun 13 2017, 12:18 PM

I shall probably watch some matches, depending on whether I'm doing anything else. OTOH, when the real thing gets underway next summer, I shall watch as much as possible.

Posted by: Mart!n Jun 13 2017, 04:30 PM

I've seen this advertised, I've never really watched this competition before, since its televised on ITV, I'm going to follow it, if there is nothing else on TV to watch.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 Jun 13 2017, 05:07 PM

I'll be watching, intriguing line-up with some different names to normal (no Brazil or Argentina for a start). Most of the German big names aren't there but I'm interested to see how the Russians are shaping up. Cameroon and New Zealand are unlikely to qualify for the World Cup.

Posted by: Houdini Jun 13 2017, 11:15 PM

I will try to watch this tournament, I think Mexico have a good chance of winning this but Ronaldo could make a big difference for Portugal if he plays. Hopefully there wont be any hooliganism or any other type of problems during the tournament.

Posted by: Mack Jun 13 2017, 11:17 PM

Yes hoping the tournament is remembered for the right reasons. Not for hooliganism. I think Mexico or Chile could win it.

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 14 2017, 09:17 PM

Russia will want to make sure security is high. Astonished but pleased to see Ronaldo & Sanchez starting - the former has his own new boots launched for the tournament.

Remember watching the last one in 2013 and it was on at 11pm but it was good with Japan standing out!

Posted by: Mack Jun 15 2017, 07:46 AM

At least the matches won't be on at 11pm or 2am though.

Currently watching Russia v New Zealand at the moment. Not a great start to the tournament.

Posted by: Mart!n Jun 17 2017, 05:29 PM

On paper, Russia was going to win this match quite easily, but I can't see these two teams qualifying to the semis especially with Portugal and Mexico in this group. Game wise Russia were poor, I can't see Russia getting out of their group stage next year, it really depends who else will get shoved with them.

I think Germany and Chile will qualify into the semis from Group 2.

Posted by: Mack Jun 17 2017, 10:40 PM

Portugal v Mexico should be an better match to watch.

Posted by: Mack Jun 18 2017, 05:44 PM

After today's match, I really something think needs to be done about the video decision referral system. Twice in a match, One to disallow Portugal's goal and another where nothing happened when Portugal scored the second goal, I wondered what the hell is going on and nor did anyone in the crowds.

If this is going to work, please have the referee speak about the supposed infringement to the video assistant referee. And hear the outcome please.

Posted by: Mart!n Jun 18 2017, 05:48 PM

the video decision referral system is a pain in the butt, it just stops the flow of the game.

Good match, that Hernandez header was brilliant, the second half really gave the game more justice.

This.

Even though it seems to be effective I hope they don't include in next year's World Cup, either that or they should find a more time efficient way of carrying out these video referral decisions.

Posted by: Sabrina. Jun 19 2017, 02:39 PM

I think the problem is more that no one seems to have any idea what is happening.

Maybe it could be shown what the video assistant referees are watching? A bit like cricket

I guess it's all just a trial at the moment, so all of the issues can be corrected if video technology is ever brought in.

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 20 2017, 11:45 PM

When's the next round of games?

Posted by: Suedehead2 Jun 21 2017, 07:12 AM

Today

Russia v Portugal 4.00
Mexico v New Zealand 7.00

Tomorrow

Cameroon v Australia 4.00
Germany v Chile 7.00

All on ITV4

Posted by: Mack Jun 23 2017, 11:59 AM

Amazed the video referee didn't think anyone in the brawl should have been sent off:

Posted by: Houdini Jun 23 2017, 12:04 PM

I've missed a lot of this tournament so far, it's hard to follow it because the live matches are not shown late enough in the evening and there is no highlights programme. I will watch the live matches on Sunday though.

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 23 2017, 11:56 PM

Agreed I've watched the two big games Mexico Portugal & Germany Chile both of which were good esp Sanchez in the later game! They def need a highlights show - this is the timings for World Cup games next summer - hope there's one late game too tho and 7pm our time isn't he latest!

7pm here is 9pm in Moscow so I doubt there will be anything later than that.

Posted by: Mart!n Jun 24 2017, 02:18 PM

The last group matches are both on at the same time today and tomorrow, so I guess they will have highlights at half time of the other match, or have both scores of both matches on the top of the TV screen.

Tomorrow you get an option, ITV1 and ITV4 are both screening both matches at the same time, I think I prefer to watch the Chile match.

It be the same time for the World Cup next year, a 4pm start and a 7pm start in the evenings. There maybe the odd matches at 1pm.

Yeh so we will prob have 1pm, 3pm, 5pm & 7pm our time during the group stages. Pretty crap as being at work will mean I will
Miss the first two and the others are on when my fiancée will want to watch her shite to. Always loved when there was a game on at 10pm our time so it late enough to not get complaints for watching footy all the time but early enough not to be wrecked going into work!

Portugal 2 New Zealand 0 (Ronaldo - 75th goal for Portugal - Bernardo Silva - moved to City recently)
Russia 1 Mexico 1

So Portugal and Mexico going through as it stands at half time!

Posted by: Suedehead2 Jun 24 2017, 04:37 PM

The dates and times of kick-offs are available from the FIFA website. However, as it takes place across a number of time zones, it is not as simple as normal to calculate the equivalent UK time.

Posted by: Mart!n Jun 24 2017, 05:23 PM

Got my eye on a Portugal vs Chile and Germany vs. Mexico as the semi matches, with a Germany vs. Chile final

New Zealand really missed a couple of chances, totally missing the plot, I really don't know how they got into the Confederations tournament, they are an awful team to watch

They are Oceania Champions so they are entitled to a place. As Australia are now part of the Asian confederation, New Zealand don't have a lot of opposition - although they did manage to lose to New Caledonia a few years ago. Tahiti went on to win the Asian Nations Cup and got slaughtered in each of the Confederations Cup games.

Yeh that's true although I know all the stadiums are europes side of the Ural Mts although I'd say there are a few different time zones!

Semi-Final Line-Up:

Portugal v Chile
Germany v Mexico

Posted by: Houdini Jun 26 2017, 03:48 PM

There will surely be highlights every night during next year's World Cup, BBC and ITV will make the World Cup their number one priority next summer and any other programme on those channels will have to play second fiddle. Especially when the tournament gets into the knockout stages and we have the possibility of extra time & penalties. It will be a shame to miss out on lots of live matches though just like the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan.

I thought Cameroon played decent in the first half against Germany but they wasted too many chances and once Germany scored there was only ever going to be one winner. It was quite funny when the Referee stopped play and after he looked at the video referral system sent off the wrong player before changing his decision.

All the World Cup matches will be live on BBC and ITV. I assume there will also be highlights programmes, not least so each channel can show highlights of matches they didn't show live.

I'm expecting Portugal to win tonight's semi final against Chile. I think they will win 2-1

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 28 2017, 10:01 PM

Glad Chile won that game - Vidal is an awesome player!

Posted by: Mack Jun 29 2017, 07:58 AM

Good to see Chile make the final, deserved to after that double chance in the end.

Posted by: Houdini Jun 29 2017, 11:34 AM

I guess my 2-1 prediction for Portugal was wrong laugh.gif

I thought the match was really boring and the fact that I watched it on ITV +1 didn't help because the time on the listings for the programme kept changing as the match was in progress which gave it away that the match must have gone to extra time and then penalties so it killed the suspense that would have been there if I watched on the normal ITV channel. Chile deserved the win and they have a really good chance of winning the final on Sunday.

Posted by: Steve201 Jun 29 2017, 11:48 PM

Would be a third trophy in a row they would have won!!

Posted by: Dobbo Jul 1 2017, 04:01 PM

Can't see past Germany myself. Hot on the back of their U21s victory!

Same here, Germany have been great in the Confederation tournament, and practically a young side.

Posted by: Steve201 Jul 1 2017, 08:00 PM

Was the 3rd 4th place playoff today?

Posted by: Dobbo Jul 1 2017, 08:18 PM

It takes place tomorrow at 1PM, with the final at 7PM.

I will actually endeavour to watch the final, would be the first & only match I've seen this tourno!

Posted by: Mack Jul 1 2017, 11:01 PM

No coverage of the 3rd/4th playoff on any of the ITV channels. I don't think.

It was scheduled for ITV4 at 12:45pm last week, they have decided to transmit Tour De France instead which probably get more viewers, the 3rd/4th play-off match from the Confederations Cup competition would hardly get anyone watching or any interest to be honest.

Posted by: Mack Jul 2 2017, 10:42 AM

That's true, I very much doubt the viewing figures for that would be higher than the Tour de France.

Posted by: Mart!n Jul 2 2017, 02:42 PM

3rd place result Portugal win 2-1 after extra time

Posted by: Mack Jul 2 2017, 04:13 PM

I believe Cristiano Ronaldo didn't play in the match, did he?

I think tonight it will be a 3-1 win to Germany over Chile. Can't see Chile beating Germany to be honest. Germany looked very good in their semi-final against Mexico, although defence could be an concern though.

QUOTE(Mack @ Jul 2 2017, 05:13 PM) *

I don't know if Ronaldo played or not, I just found the scoreline on BBC Sports site.

Germany could win this in 90mins, with a hefty scoreline methinks, I'm guessing 4-2, could be an entertaining match to watch since Chile have been pretty impressive with Sanchez, but Germany has played well in this tournament with a young side.

Posted by: Dobbo Jul 2 2017, 06:16 PM

It'll be an edgy, dull game like pretty much every international final IMO. I expect Germany will edge it 1 or 2-0.

Posted by: Steve201 Jul 2 2017, 07:12 PM

Not edgy at all Dobbo been a good final but Chile seem certain to mess up in defence!!

Posted by: Steve201 Jul 2 2017, 07:12 PM

Vidal is so good!

Posted by: Mart!n Jul 2 2017, 07:59 PM

A bit of a mix and match of a game, first half was brilliant, second half was a bit of a mess with all the incidents, that elbow bash should have been a red card offence, that was a let off with a yellow card. On the whole the second half was a bit of a disappointment for me.

As for the next Confederations tournament with it been held in Quatar, I heard it will be ditched, as they won't play musical chairs with the national fixtures.

Posted by: Dobbo Jul 2 2017, 08:00 PM

Lost interest after the goal, Germany weren't gonna concede.

Posted by: Silas Jul 2 2017, 08:05 PM

Stindl wub.gif

Great to see the Gladbach captain get a decent run at 'tournament' football and a few caps für Die Mannschaft.

Posted by: Dobbo Jul 2 2017, 08:26 PM

Haven't seen the tourno but VAR looks horrendous.

Posted by: Houdini Jul 3 2017, 12:39 PM

VAR was horrendous, the worst thing that happened was when the referee sent off the wrong Cameroon player during Germany vs Cameroon AFTER he looked at the VAR system before having to look at it a second time and then sending off the correct player.

Germany are very much the Real Madrid of international football at the moment and with the amount of depth that they have in their squad they will be strong favourites to win the World Cup next year.

Posted by: Steve201 Jul 4 2017, 11:34 PM

Brazil looking good too with their new manager Tiete!

Posted by: ML Hammer95 Jul 5 2017, 12:58 PM

I quite enjoyed the tournament, saw most of the games. The Portugal - Chile and Chile - Germany matches were very high quality ones despite the lack of goals and the other semi final was class too as Mexico gave the Germans a good game and scored the goal of the tournament. I think if the latter stages of the World Cup are similar in quality we'll be in for a treat.

Russia were limited obviously but they actually played quite well in the second half against Portugal once they took the attack to the opposition. I don't think they'll be quite as bad as everyone will predict during the World Cup but they'll get a hard draw whoever the opposition.
