The massive Greek hit 'Tonight' to smash this rate. cheeseblock.png

I will be shocked if 'All Night Long' doesn't win this.

Kick starting us off in a very distant last is Where Do Hearts Go. This song is nice but so beige. It also last for about a minute and a half too long :') for a song so beige, it's not what we or anyone else wants.

Shadow being the only representation for Burke's last album 'The Truth Is' and it's only here coz it's a single :') It's a nice song, but not what we want from THA BEAST! It's extremely catering to the Radio 2 audience but still somehow flailing.

At 19 is an 'Overcome' Deluxe Edition track What Happens On The Dancefloor, which features one UK hit wonder Cobra Starship! A song that's a bop, but it's definitely best left in 2010. I'm confident that it would have been a hit at the time though tbh.

Posted by: Slick 11th July 2020, 02:37 PM

Not surprised at that bottom two.

I LOVE 'What Happens On The Dancefloor.' A BOP.

WHOTD absolutely ROBBED

Posted by: *Tim 11th July 2020, 04:10 PM

I will never get what y'all love about What Happens...

Posted by: Scene 11th July 2020, 07:23 PM

WHOTD is extremely basic in the worst possible way and robbed other songs of a place on the deluxe edition.

Posted by: JosephStyles 11th July 2020, 08:22 PM

Agree that What Happens... is very basic, it's fun but there are other songs that fit that specification better on Overcome.

At #18 is the 'Overcome' track Gotta Go. For me it's nice. But that's kind of all it is to me. I think it tries to be more euphoric and powerful than it actually ends up achieving. The chorus kinda falls flat after a promising, start. But yeah, it's nice but not one I return to.

Up next is the Pixie Lott written track You Broke My Heart. A song that I didn't realise was written by Pixie until v recently, but it's now kinda obvious. Lol. It's a cute, Pixie's debut era, 60's-pop throwback.

Finally, we have the deluxe 'Overcome' track, Perfect at #16. Such a powerful and emotional ballad number! The strings towards the end really sell this. It would've made a good single choice, I think! I don't prefer it to 'The Silence', but I wouldn't have been mad if they opted to push this as the Q4 ballad 5th single from the album instead!

Posted by: Chemistry 12th July 2020, 06:18 AM

I LOVE Shadow, have to say I only discovered this song very recently but it's such a nice, catchy and mellow song. Shame to see it this low! Where Do Hearts Go is very basic though, not surprised to see it charting so low and the Cobra Starship collab is too generic and very much a song of it's time.

Perfect is a stunner!

I'm not too huge on You Broke My Heart as a song but the VOCALS ln that song

Posted by: HausofGhibli 12th July 2020, 07:53 AM

Gotta Go is the only track I'm sad about leaving but it's about where it should be. HOH album tracks not out yet - the deserved slayage!

Posted by: troylovesmusic 12th July 2020, 03:31 PM

Perfect is a gem I think it could have been a hit for her at her peak time. I always had a soft spot for Gotta Go as well it’s about where I expected it to be though .

Into the top 15 we go! Kicking us off is the 'Heartbreak On Hold' track Fire. This honestly, isn't too far removed from what The Saturdays would give us. It gives me slight 'On You Radar' vibes. Except a bit more plain/basic. A bop though.

The 3rd single to leave us is out at #14! The love/hate Start Without You. This went on to become Alexandra's 3rd UK #1 single. It defied the odds and spent TWO weeks at the summit of the chart. It's so Summery and it's irresistably catchy and charming. The video though... no.gif Didn't this have a video filmed, but then they scrapped it for this version instead? I seem to remember a really Summery looking video judging by the photos etc.. and I want to say it involved an ice cream van? An iconic song that gets hated on WAYYYYY too much.

Leaving us in this section is the incredible Between The Sheets. A song that seemed to have a very positive or a very "eh" reaction. No way does this deserve a "2" though... you two better know yourselves tbh!!!!! What a song. This should have been a single from the era and I think it probably should/could have followed 'Elephant' perfectly sad.gif One of her very best for sure, for me!

Posted by: troylovesmusic 12th July 2020, 10:33 PM

Start Without is iconic and should have been higher . The video is pretty tragic though laugh.gif . Between The Sheets definitely should have been a single as well it’s stunning .

At number 12 is the title track of her debut album Overcome. A power ballad of sorts, that really harks back to the late 90's. Alex's vocals soar on this, but I think this suffered for me by there being songs of the same ilk, she did better on that album! Lovely song though and it's nice to see it's appreciated!

Just missing out on the top 10 is, coincidentally, the title track of her second album Heartbreak On Hold. A eurodance, pop banger. Again, it's pretty faceless, but Alexandra's voice just about manages to put her own personality into it. Another should've been a single in all honesty.

Finishing this section off by throwing us into the top 10 is an album track from her debut album, Dumb and it serves really nicely as being 'Broken Heels' mk. II! Infectious, catchy and interesting production! Irresistable hook. I think I underrated this tbh. I love it more than I realise whenever I listen to it! (I gave it an 8 though!)

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th July 2020, 11:07 PM

Dumb seems so underappreciated! It should've been a single sad.gif

Yeah. After I did the highest score and lowest scores, I forgot to change the average and position number heehee.gif

Start Without You is such a cheesy, but fun bop. Should have been higher for her on here, but was very happy it went to #1 in the official chart.

Between The Sheets is easily my favourite song on HOH.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 14th July 2020, 09:32 AM

I actually really liked some of HOH's album tracks! I mean, they're completely of their time generic 2012 EDM numbers but the title track is a real bop.

At number 9 is Alexandra's first official release and her coronation winning single, the stunning Hallelujah. A cover of the Leonard Cohen classic that is top 3 of the biggest coronation singles from the show, I think. It's a gorgeous rendition and is definitely one of my favourite, if not my favourite, coronation singles. Beautiful.

At number 7 is the 2nd highest album track in the countdown. It's from her 2nd album 'Heartbreak On Hold' and it's... Tonight. A song that is a bop, but feels like it's still in demo form for me. It just feels quite paper thin to me and I feel like it could have been spruced and beefed up more. This feels very "highlight on The Saturdays - Living For The Weekend, when we wanted to aim for On Your Radar" kinda energy to me. A cute bop, but honestly, I think I'd prefer all the other HOH album tracks above this </3

The highest placed album track finishes at number 7! It's the fantastic Good Night Good Morning. An absolute banger from the debut album and has always seemed like the song with the most hit potential from either of her albums! That dirty beat is so good and really gets stuck in your head. Both Alexandra & Ne-Yo compliment each other perfectly. I love this song so much and is in my top 5 Burke songs.

Posted by: Jonjo 14th July 2020, 06:45 PM

So your top 6 is...

Alphabetical Order:
All Night Long (feat. Pitbull)
Bad Boys (feat. Flo-Rida)
Broken Heels
Elephant (feat. Erick Morillo)
Let It Go
The Silence

Predictions? ohmy.gif

Also late commenting on this, but thank CHRIST 'Start Without You' finished low. sick2.gif What a vile song.

I hope 'Let It Go' can finish above 'Elephant'.

Posted by: HausofGhibli 14th July 2020, 07:19 PM

Between The Sheets and Heartbreak on Hold are far too low - both of them! sad.gif They are her very best album tracks in my opinion.

Agree completely with that analysis of 'Tonight'. It sounds so cheap and basic.

Posted by: HausofGhibli 14th July 2020, 08:19 PM

Listening to the 'Heartbreak On Hold' album right now and honestly it deserved so much more. The only gripe I have is that it is quite faceless and could be done by any pop female, but the songs themselves are largely all GREAT. The only ones I don't care for are 'Love You That Much', 'Devil In Me' and 'What Money Can't Buy'. The rest is all F I R E and I won't hear any different.

Posted by: troylovesmusic 14th July 2020, 09:24 PM

It still makes no sense to me to this day why Good Night Good Morning wasn’t a single . Ne-Yo I believe was still quite big at the time as well . It easily could have been a cute 4th or 5th Single with a decent budget video missed opportunity there.

Posted by: Chemistry 16th July 2020, 06:02 AM

Nah, Hallelujah should have been higher. I know it's winners song, but still think it's her best one to date. So so beautiful <3 Honestly (behind SOTU) the best winner's song that has ever been released. Much much better than Elephant and Let Go.

Surprised to see the Ne-Yo collab as her highest album track. It's only decent for me.

Slightly off topic, but Alex streamed a little snipped of her new single during an Insta live session yesterday, sounded like a right bop.

Just missing on the top 5 is the 2nd single from her 2nd album 'Heartbreak On Hold'. Let It Go is a euro-club pop dance banger. It's very of it's time, but in a good way, imo. I prefer it to the lead single from that era... but tbh, the album had better singles options! Speaking of the lead single...

... it falls out at #5! The final 'Heartbreak On Hold' track to leave and the lead single, Elephant is another "club banger" of the most generic kind. A banger and a top 3 hit for her, but really faceless and lacking in the Burke personality that we came accustomed to. We can't do this write up though, without mentioning the ICONIC interview where she claimed to bring the "Elephant In The Room" saying over here to the UK! *.* It is her best ever middle-8 though. GLORIOUS.

Missing the top 3 is the final single taken from Alexandra's massive debut era! The Silence was on the original release of the album, but was saved to be the 5th and final single from the era as they re-issued the album in time for the big X Factor promotion. The performance was class! The song is a massive power ballad that really showcases Alexandra's finest vocal moments! Stunning song.

As we hit the top 3 of:

All Night Long (feat. Pitbull)
Bad Boys (feat. Flo-Rida)
Broken Heels

How would you have launched the HOH era!?

For me:

Heartbreak On Hold
Between The Sheets
Fire
Let It Go

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 16th July 2020, 09:46 PM

That's a stellar top 3.

I'm pretty sure the final will be 'Bad Boys' vs 'All Night Long', although 'Broken Heels' is my fave!

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 16th July 2020, 09:49 PM

Broken Heels is the best thing she’s ever done but going off the rate what had a lot of X Factor acts on it that was done quite recently on here I think one of the other two will win.

Posted by: Chemistry 17th July 2020, 06:00 AM

Let It Go and Elephant are both generic, they are not bad, but Alex could do so, so much better.

The Silence is a gorgeous song. Worked very well as a single, especially during the Christmas rush with the X Factor performance.

Posted by: *Tim 17th July 2020, 08:35 AM

Ugh that section cheeseblock.png
The Xfactor performance of The Silence still has me SHOOK

I would release HOH like this
Daylight Robbery
Between The Sheets
Heartbreak On Hold
Elephant Remix

Posted by: Lukuzz 17th July 2020, 09:33 AM

Forgot to vote in this, The Silence would have probably would have got my 11

Posted by: troylovesmusic 17th July 2020, 01:37 PM

Elephant and Let It Go aside and Between The Sheets as well I wasn’t really a fan of the HOH era tbh. It was very faceless and generic pretty much anyone could have sung most of the songs and it was lacking in Alex’s personality that she had it Overcome. It’s shame the original 2nd Album she recorded got scrapped as it was apparently meant to be more Rnb based as well.

Posted by: Jonjo 17th July 2020, 07:58 PM

Here is 3rd place! A surprise? ohmy.gif Bad Boys was Alexandra first fully launched single after winning the X Factor 9 months or so before. This was a HUGE curveball and honestly, changed the game in terms of X Factor winning artists first proper single being a huge up-tempo, contemporary, pop smash! It spent a week at number 1 before it was knocked off the top spot by her own mentor Cheryl, the week after. The X Factor performance of this is STELLAR. You'd have thought she'd been in the business for years prior! The choreography, the vocals, Flo-Rida jumping on stage for his verse and then running off :') ICONIC. The song is perfection! It's so anthemic and was EXACTLY what Burke needed. I'm so thankful it wasn't a ballad (as much as I love her ballads!).

A SONG.

Posted by: Slick 17th July 2020, 08:01 PM

I remember LOVING Bad Boys so much when it came out. I was so glad it was a dancey bop! The perfect start to her career. Amazing.

So your 2nd favourite Alexandra single is the empowering, power pop ANTHEM Broken Heels. The 2nd proper single from Alex's debut album was a collaboration with producer of the moment RedOne! It seemed like everyone and their dog was working with him since Lady Gaga broke through within the 14 months or so before this! Getting that trademark shout out "RED ONE!" seemed to be a huge pop cultural moment and it showed Syco were serious in launching Alexandra as the star she is. This was her 3rd UK top 10 hit and I seem to remember the video being played everywhere! Such a good video. Not a fave of mine, but it's a banger! Surprised to see it beat 'Bad Boys' in this rate though ohmy.gif

There we have it All Night Long is crowned the WINNER of the Alexandra Burke Singles Rate! WHAT AN ALMIGHTY TRIUMPH! This song is one of the very best songs to come from an X Factor star, period. The pulsing synths throughout are entrancing and powerful! This was an instant highlight from the album, but it received a revamped single mix in order to achieve a bigger and better chart position. The album version is sublime and really emphasizes the synths, where in the single version it gives it a more Euro-dancefloor feel. The album version is a lot richer, but the single mix still slaps, featuring one of my favourite rent-a-rapper verses! Pitbull delivered *.* This was another top 5 smash for Alexandra and rightfully so. Her best ever song wub.gif

Thank you to everyone who rated and commented & helped to make this a success, One of the strongest singles discographies of any X Factor/Reality TV contestant. wub.gif

EDIT: Also, the averages for All Night Long & Broken Heels amused me :')

Fantastic Top 3 particularly the number one. The reinvigorated version of All Night Long with the addition of Pitbull makes the song sound so much better.

I have listened to loads of Alexandra since this rate so thank you Jonjo!

I knew All Night Long would win can’t argue with it winning though it still sounds so good and timeless to this day .

Bad Boys really was the perfect song to launch her album campaign- such a bop and what a time in music when that and Fight.. were #1 back-to-back on the singles charts.

Surprised to see Broken Heels beating Bad Boys though. I most definitely prefer the latter one, but Broken Heels is a fun track as well.

All Night was easily the stand-out track on Overcome when I first bought the album, so I was super excited when it got released as a single. I still prefer the album version, don't think Pitbull was needed.
