Ashleigh Barty will donate all of her prize money from the Brisbane International to the bushfire relief fund.

The event offers a pot of 1,434,900 Australian dollars (£763,300).

"There are a lot of bigger things going on in Australia right now that we need to take care of," Barty said.

Five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova says she plans to donate an initial A$25,000 and asked men's world number two Novak Djokovic to match it.

Dalila Jakupovic says she was "really scared" as she retired from her Australian Open qualifying match because of the "unhealthy" air quality from ongoing bushfires in the country.

The Slovenian world number 180 had to be helped off court after she retired at 6-5 5-6 against Swiss Stefanie Vogele in the first round in Melbourne.

Australian Open organisers have imposed a two-hour delay to the start of qualifying matches on Wednesday because of the "very poor" air quality from ongoing bushfires in the country.

It is the second successive day the start of play has been delayed because of the conditions in Melbourne.

Harriet Dart became the fourth British woman to reach this year's Australian Open first round after she won her final qualifying match.

Dart, 23, won 6-1 6-3 against Italian Giulia Gatto-Monticone in Melbourne.

The world number 169, who lost in the first round last year, joins Johanna Konta, Heather Watson and Katie Boulter in the main draw.

She will find out her opponent when qualifying is completed and the winners are placed in the draw.

Coco Gauff proved last year's victory over Venus Williams was no fluke when she beat the seven-time Grand Slam champion once again to reach the Australian Open second round.

Gauff announced her arrival last July with victory over her "idol" Williams, 39, in the Wimbledon first round.

And just like last time, she did it in straight sets, winning 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Maria Sharapova is not sure if she will be at the Australian Open next year, with a first-round exit meaning she is set to drop out of the world's top 350.

The five-time Grand Slam champion, who won at Melbourne Park in 2008, lost 6-3 6-4 to Croatian 19th seed Donna Vekic.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic both enjoyed comfortable wins to reach the third round of the Australian Open.

Federer beat world number 41 Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 6-1 6-4 6-1 to maintain his bid to match Djokovic's seven Australian Open titles.

The Swiss, 38, wrapped up victory in 92 minutes and will face Australia's John Millman next.

Djokovic, the defending champion, dismissed Japanese wildcard Tatsuma Ito 6-1 6-4 6-2 in 95 minutes.

It's good that there is some tennis on TV for the next two weeks. With Amazon now having the rights to WTA events as well as the ATP,I don't think there will be any tennis to watch until the French Open in May.
