BuzzJack Music Forum _ Rihanna _ If ANTI had been released in 2015?

2015 was really the beginning of my Rih stanning (heard BBHMM in the car and I was LIVING at this queen of a woman) but it wasn't...the year to be a Rih stan. FFS came out in Jan and while it had a mixed reception amongst online stans it was a hit with the GP but BBHMM seemingly dropped the ball with them. I'd actually argue BBHMM was a hit and didn't harm her at all in the long run, but nvm kink.gif Then came American o2 which unarguably was a flop beyond all expectations, well expectations until you heard the song and realised it wasn't remotely commercial. But what if she'd just released the album anyway?

A part of me thinks it would've done BETTER, as the release was so botched it felt like a lot of the hype had dried up and hype was deffo there in 2015. But she also wouldn't have had 'Work' as the smash hit to sell the album. Idk, it's a tricky one.

I think BBHMM and FourFiveSeconds are two of her best songs (American Oxygen not so much). I wish she just placed them on the album, even if only as deluxe tracks.

I think it’s paid for sales could’ve been higher if we got it in Q4 2015.

I often wonder if there was an “original”’ ANTi what had all the 2015 tracks released on it as part of the album and if anything on the official album was on it and what songs were added towards the end of recording. Who knows though! I think if we got the album either directly after Four Five Seconds or if we got a surprise style Beyoncé drop in November / Dec of 2015 though we could’ve definitely had better opening sales and perhaps a more spread out campaign.

It’s hard to predict though. ANTi done so well in the US that it’s release there didn’t really make any difference but over here we really didn’t support it too much it’s her lowest seller besides her debut sad.gif.

I do however think this album would’ve slayed in 2020. It’s sound is so streaming friendly. Needed Me would’ve probably been a top ten hit if released this year and Love On The Brain would’ve probably also charted in the top 40 as well. I think it’s sound for her UK fans was quite... ahead of its time in terms of females releasing the music what’s on ANTi that sounds definitely become more mainstream now.
