Sorry for an impromptu thread in an artist forum (not usually my style) but listening back to an older Liam Payne single a moment ago from 2017 made me wonder if we will ever see these three achieve a Top 40 hit again. I think it is safe to assume Harry and Niall will continue to do relatively better in chart performances and their larger followings and more recent hits.
For some perspective; The last Liam Payne song to reach the UK Top 40 was Poloroid in 2018, as part of a feature with Jonas Blue and Lennon Stella. The last Louis Tomlinson song to reach the UK Top 40 was Miss You in 2017, and only just peaked at #39. The last Zayn song to reach the UK Top 40 was Let Me in 2018. So what do we think? |

I wouldn't rule it out for any of them, but I feel like Louis is the most likely to get another hit. He signed a new label deal last year, so I'm sure the label will do everything they can to make it an event.

I don’t know, I think Louis has had the poorest solo career so far, in terms of chart success, so it would take a remarkable transformation for that to change. I feel like the other two are just going to continue putting out the occasional soundtrack song that does nothing chart wise but occasionally makes the latest Now compilation. |

Zayn: Never again in any capacity
Louis: I just can't see it, even if a new record label try their hardest Liam: Possibly as a featuring artist on a dance track or something |

i dunno who looked at 1D and thought Louis or LIam would ever have success.
Zsyn never seemed interested in being a 'hits' kinda artist. |

I’m sure Liam would have had a lot more success if he’d had an album ready to go within a month or two of Strip That Down being massive (and it really was massive internationally). Honestly that single coming out in May 2017 and it taking until December 2019 to release the album? Any momentum he has had completely evaporated!
Incidentally May 2017 was when Harry Styles released his debut album, and December 2019 his second album, which highlights just how long Liam’s first era was dragged out for. |

I think Zayn could get another hit if he goes commercial again.
I think Louis is least likely to get another hit tbh |

With Liam, Strip That Down was so successful and then Bedroom Floor was a poor choice of follow-up. I think they were forever chasing that major hit again before allowing him to release an album and he struggled to get that, lost his appeal and by the time LP1 did come out, it was a no-hoper from the start.
I think he has a chance of a hit again though, but probably a dance feature or soundtrack song as has already been mentioned. Zayn could have success again if he just tried a bit harder. Louis, bless him... Well it's not likely, is it? |

Even without a hit, I can see Louis still having a better solo career tbh. He has an insanely loyal fanbase on social media, and certainly gets the most 'likes' out of them all bar Harry.

Zayn is the most talented of the three. Liam could if he features on some popular dance track. Louis never had a hit to begin with.

they both lasted about a week in the charts and were subjected to Japanese bonus tracks.

Louis is by far the biggest of those 3 and second only to Harry Styles worldwide and in Europe. If he teams up with Bebe Rexe again he could have more smashes! He is the Victoria Beckham of the group - long term top 10 success.

I mean this just highlights how ridiculous streaming is that these two are platinum Again that's probably part of a bigger discussion but platinum feels about right, they were pretty big hits (and Just Hold On notably got to #2). I think there are stranger certifications in the 1D combined discography than these...! (the numerous silver album tracks for starters) As for the question, I don't think it's impossible for any of them to get a hit again. As mentioned, Louis' fanbase is being underestimated. As to whether that would translate into anything more than a fleeting top 40 hit at best, it's hard to say, but with the right song he could actually get a somewhat decent sized hit potentially. It's worth noting that his album has really quite respectable trickle sales considering it has no actual big hits on it to accumulate streams (compared to LP1 which includes all of Liam's hits - it's sold more but Walls really isn't embarrassingly far behind all things considered). Liam could easily hop on a Joel Corry single or something and get a hit, though I think interest in him as an artist waned very quickly. I agree with Jay that he left it WAY too late to release the album and it feels like it'll be a struggle to kickstart his solo music again, he hasn't got the hardcore stanbase that Louis has. Zayn could probably get a minor hit if he wanted to release something vaguely commercial but he seems quite happy not doing that which is fair enough. |

Liam could easily hop on a Joel Corry single or something and get a hit I don't think it would be that easy for him. His latest collaborations weren't hits, so big DJ / producers would be hesitant to feature him on their tracks. They would want fresh names, hyped & cool artists, which I don't think Liam is. You say that, but Joel Corry's new single features Bryson Tiller - who's only big UK hit so far was 5 years ago now.
