26th June 2012 - 6 years ago: Spice Girls reunite to announce their Viva Forever! musical

ohmy.gif An exciting day (at the time it'd been a little over 4 years since they'd last been pictured together as a 5). I remember so much focus being on Victoria's perceived distance from the other girls.

28th June 2007 - 11 years ago: Spice Girls reunite and announce Return of the Spice Girls tour!

The excitement I felt on that day was immense - I spent it all online, on DenDen / reading news articles / watching news channels. laugh.gif The press conference. wub.gif

It really seemed like it was never going to happen, with Melanie C being so adamantly against the idea of it. Thank goodness she had a (rather sudden) change of heart!

11 years on and I'm still not keen on Geri's dress. kink.gif Melanie C looked the best!

Looking back, it's weird to think that it was only six and a half years between the end of the Forever era and that reunion. It felt like such a long time, but I suppose that's because I was so young (I was 12 when they went on hiatus, and 19 when they got back together). Six years doesn't feel like much to me any more. kink.gif I mean we're not far from it being 6 years since they last performed together at the Olympics.

One more very " drama.gif " thing that occurred to me - the 2007 reunion is now the half way point between the release of Wannabe, and the present day. In fact Wannabe to reunion was a slightly shorter period of time, approx 10 years and 50 weeks.

No way has it been that long already ohmy.gif I read the newspaper from a very young age so I remember those photos and the hype behind the reunion as clear as day. The annoying part is that I didn't get into the Spice Girls until 2008, aged 10, mere months after the tour ended... cry.gif so I've always hoped that they'd reunite at least one more time after missing out. My parents did go to the Return of the Spice Girls tour though so I at least have their tickets in amongst my Spice collection laugh.gif

Who would have thought how their lives were going to change when it was released and how huge they would go on to become.

Viva Forever was such a weird moment. A beautiful, haunting song featuring the now absent Geri. And such an eerie video.

And then it takes the UK No.1 spot, after the media-branded 'disappointment' of Stop going to No.2.

It seemed like it was over. Then, for a moment, Viva Forever suggested it wasn't... Until it all went quiet and eventually fizzled.

As a fan, 'The Sea' was game changer for me.

I was over the moon when this album arrived. Melanie really committed to a strong sound and I see it as a return to form. My faith was restored.

I'm sad for her that it wasn't as successful as it deserved to be. It should've made enough money to finance a big budget follow-up straight away.
