I don't think we have a thread for the Christmas Chart discussion yet so here's one! Created in light of the following news:
Christmas Number 1 2015 to be announced live on Top of the Pops and BBC Radio 1 QUOTE With the race for this year's Christmas Number 1 all ready to explode out of the starting blocks, make sure you know where and when to tune in! We're excited to announce that Top of the Pops will return to BBC One for two hour-long programmes dedicated to 2015's festive music battle on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, and will feature performances from some of pop's brightest stars, including Jess Glynne, OMI, Little Mix, James Bay, Sigma & Rita Ora and Ellie Goulding. Meanwhile, Greg James will also reveal the news live on BBC Radio 1 in a special three-hour show from 10am-1pm. It's a historic race this year as it's the first time the top spot has been unveiled on a Friday since moving from its Sunday slot earlier this year, and it's also Greg James's Christmas Number 1 debut. He said: "It's the biggest chart of the year, and it's worth delaying my entire family's Christmas celebrations for! I love being the Official Chart host, and I’m so excited that I’ll be announcing the Christmas number 1 LIVE on Christmas day." So the news of the Christmas #1 will be revealed on both Radio 1 and Top of the Pops! Plus it looks like we're getting a FULL TOP 40 RUNDOWN on Christmas Day |

Streaming is going to be insane this year and with the tracks getting a full week of streams I could feasibly see half the top 10 full of Christmas songs

It'll be the most Christmas-song filled chart for quite some time I think! A full week build up and with streaming I'm sure many Christmas songs are going to do great numbers. Hoping Leona's "One More Sleep" will go top 40 this year - with a full week build up to Christmas and her strongest day (Christmas Eve) included. Signs point to her doing much better this year than last with the song on most Christmas spotify playlists and being featured on compilations including Now! Christmas.

Wizzard and Shaky top 20 please or a bit higher and Mariah for top 5!Would also love Andy Williams, East 17, Kelly and Boney M to benefit. Although unlikely with the latter 3 lol.

I hope 'Underneath The Tree' gets a new peak this year. I'm loving that it's on disc 1 of Now! Christmas.

Could be a definite viewers increase if Top of the Pops reveals the Christmas number 1 first, even if the midweeks are more accessible these days, round the perfect time of day too with everyone preparing Christmas lunch!
Mariah/The Pogues could actually be top 5 contenders if streaming's high enough, first time since what, 2007? Guess it depends what else is out etc. |

I think the biggest streaming day for Xmas songs was actually Christmas Day itself last year as people listen most on the big day itself rather than downloads which people bought in the buildup throughout Nov/Dec?! Not 100% sure but if so the sales will still be split.
Anyway great to see there's a full 3 hr show which as Joseph said will hopefully mean a full top 40! And at a much better time of 10am-1pm. After 1pm they usually begin to start airing recorded shows from the yr past and the Xmas songs come to a halt until next yr. |

Yeah, it's going to be 50% Christmas songs I imagine. Driving Home for Christmas and One More Sleep had massive Christmas eve boosts last Christmas eve, but it was wasted due to the fact there were days after the Christmas free-fall before the chart. Mariah and Pogues will probably be top 5 I imagine!

Shaky has competition from himself this year! To mark the 30th anniversary of the release of Merry Christmas Everyone he has recorded a new version which has been released today. As well as the download there is a CD single available.

Re-recording and brand new catalogue number so sales will be split! The CD is on Amazon and should be on general sale. Proceeds go to the Salvation Army and aparently will be available from their shops too but I'd imagine those won't count towards the chart.
