    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 78 otherwise known as Now 78 had it’s release in the Spring of 2011 and contained 42 tracks, of which just 6 were UK #1 singles. This was the volume that introduced us to the likes of Jessie J, Matt Cardle, Wiz Khalifa, Martin Solveig, Wretch 32 and Devlin.

Two other UK #1 singles were omitted from this era which came from JLS and X Factor Finalists 2010. Along with these, there were omissions from Nero, Westlife, Dr Dre, Michael Jackson, Usher, Cheryl Cole, The Trashmen and Coldplay, all of whom got overlooked for this volume.

A handful of artists make their only series appearance on this volume, and they are Alexis Jordan (as a lead artist), Parade, Susan Boyle, Willow and Far East Movement (as a lead artist).

Artwork Rating: 3/10 Extremely Poor
It’s been a while since I marked an artwork as low as this, but it’s a very poor design and is not aesthetically pleasing on the eye. The vast contrast of colours surrounding the logo in the form of what appear to be paper windmills is, yet again, a thoughtless and uninspired design for Spring against an all too commonplace blue sky. Overused ideas which by this point were lacking any sort of intelligence.

Disc 1 Favourite: Taio Cruz feat. Travie McCoy – Higher
Except it isn’t this version, it’s the omitted version featuring Kylie Minogue which is my favourite from this disc. I never understood the decision to put this version on instead, but it was one of my favourite songs from 2011.

Disc 2 Favourite: Chase & Status feat. Liam Bailey – Blind Faith
A great single from drum & bass pioneers Chase & Status from an excellent album too. One of the best outputs from their career yet. Martin Solveig is a close second and a small shoutout to The Black Eyed Peas too.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. JLS – Love You More 3:48 {1}
2. Michael Jackson feat. Akon – Hold My Hand 3:32 {10}
3. X Factor Finalists 2010 – Heroes 4:21 {1}
4. Alexis Jordan – Good Girl 3:56 {6}
5. Jodie Connor feat. Wiley – Now Or Never 3:42 {14}
6. Tinie Tempah feat. Kelly Rowland – Invincible 3:21 {11}
7. Kanye West feat. Rihanna – All Of The Lights 4:59 {15}
8. Nicki Minaj feat. Drake – Moment 4 Life 4:39 {22}
9. Dr Dre feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey – I Need A Doctor 4:43 {8}
10. Britney Spears – Till The World Ends 3:58 {21}
11. Nero – Me And You 4:07 {15}
12. Tiλsto & Diplo feat. Busta Rhymes – C’mon (Catch ‘Em By Surprise) 3:32 {13}
13. Breakage feat. Jess Mills – Fighting Fire 3:36 {34}
14. Afrojack feat. Eva Simons – Take Over Control 2:57 {24}
15. Usher – More 3:49 {23}
16. Tinchy Stryder feat. Chipmunk, Tinie Tempah, Devlin, Example, Professor Green & Giggs – Game Over 5:20 {22}
17. Lethal Bizzle feat. JME, Wiley, Chipmunk, Face, P Money, Ghetts & Kano – Pow 2011 3:46 {33}
18. N-Dubz – Girls 2:50 {18}
19. Alexa Goddard – Turn My Swag On 3:33 {20}
20. The Vaccines – Post Break-Up Sex 2:54 {32}
21. The Trashmen – Surfin’ Bird 2:23 {3}
----------
Total time: 1:19:46

Overall Rating: 4/10 Very Poor
This is a big drop in standards from the previous volume that had double the number of UK #1 singles and made use of more disc space. The artwork is one of the poorest of recent years. The general selection of music which was in the charts at the time is a reflection of the drop in quality and a more than usual desperate to fill disc space with music that would be easily forgotten a few years later. Little if any alternative music included too. It’s also frustrating to see decisions to include versions of Higher and Price Tag without Kylie Minogue and B.o.B respectively. Not a good volume at all.
